Superb :thumb:
In between internet crashes and screaming kids I enjoyed that.
Particularly my surprise lap on the last course...I never knew I had it in me......addictive bugger innit.
Nice to see some new faces too, and a damn fine race for last place between me and JamesB (probably not helped by me losing control on pretty much every corner, then nosing back on track without thinking and getting the best part of t-boned)
Cheers all...
Yes, very addictive and very enjoyable. Benny, I really enjoyed our race, it may have been at the back of the grid but it was a proper scrap and apart from once I don't think we made contact at any other time despite being nose to tail, now thats fair racing. I would not have seen that in the public servers very often.
Thanks chaps, I'm enjoying my new racing home.
It was indeed a good night. :D
It was remarkably close even between first and last as the lap times were only about 2-4 secs apart which, with a little bit of practice, will come down quite rapidly. I can see many a fine tussle in the near future and over-taking becoming a skill that I'll have to learn.

sorry for being well infront but you actually picked the car that fits my driving style on a short track.

Can't you afford a new one?
How about adding the Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) tonight? It's not too long, so incourages close racing, nice n' hilly with lots of sliding and (at least on my sys), I'm getting 40/50 fps. It's a fun track all round I think.
Sear Point eh? Mmm. Tomorrow. :)
Hope to be able to drop in again tonight ..............what with being a little offside and practicing for other racing time has been short but i plan on trying to drop in tonight{thursday}
Sear Point should be interesting not driven there yet apart from the compulsary lap on install of track :D
I might not be racing tonight due to unforseen circumstances  good weather this
so you may be slightly safer from cars immitating spinning tops 8)
Funny thing about Zandvort. I joined an online game a few weeks back at Zandvort and when I was the only driver there it was fine. But when someone else was there too my screen started flickering like a loonatic and it kept reloading me up all the time, had to leave. Didn't even get as far as the track
Oh well, I'll download it again from nogrip this time, hope it works this time.

Possibly you didn't have the map (or version of the map) the server was on? Last night when the dMw server switched to zandvoot which I didn't have at the time GTL just loaded up Magny Cours, let me pull out of the pitts, get 20m down the straight, then disconnected and immediately started loading up Magny Cours again, ad infinitum. Once I guessed I might not have the right map I had to disconnect and go find it...
Weird game, doesn't handle custom maps (or the lack thereof) very well

It is, it is! :D :worship:
What's the form for tonight? I was out in London last night so you chaps would not have wanted to see me by the time I got back!! The driving would have been interesting.
Last night Sears Point turned out to be a bit of a let down due to folks disappearing into the mountainside.
I've had a chase up for any updates to fix this but, as I thought, it's been several months since any comment on this and the author is aware of the bug but hasn't done anything about it! :( Hey ho.
Thanks for another good evening of racing last night chaps. I enjoyed it very much, and coupled with my first win! The new DFP was a good recommendation as well.
Some spiffing racing last night chaps! :dribble:
Thanks to JAS for taking out Malcolm and to JamesB for changing down too many gears at the hairpin :roflmao:
Next time Ron, next time
a few more laps and I'd have been lapped
had a few decent bits ... after we'd been on the same track for a while I was beginning to get to know the corners. Once I've finished moving house I'll have to get into it on a more regular basis so that I can perhaps keep up just enough to crash into people at times other than the first corner
SM, it'll take a remarkably short time before you'll start to keep up. The problem I had was being consistant, in fact I still find it a problem.
I've started to brake a bit early as smoothness is faster than slamming the anchors on and screeching round. Much to Oldies surprise and annoyance ;)

SM, you really will not take long to get up to speed. When I joined this motley crew I could not keep up at all and I still struggle on courses I have never driven on, but that's not exactly surprising. The chaps have given me advise, shared their setup details with me, given kind words of encoragement, suggested new hardware to further advance my quest and even let me sleep with their wives. Now I am able to crash much faster than I could before and sometimes from near the front of the race

Great night thanks chaps. The Mini's round Brands was a blast, really good close racing. Dijon was fun too, especially for me having won the first one by attrition and the secon was my best ever race with you guy's. Very enjoyable and still fair. I have made some good progress with the driving lately and I think some of it is down to the DFP. Anyway, thanks again for a great evening.
Well, report from Sunday, not quite last night, but another fine and enjoyable experience. Thanks to Old for picking the Lotus Elite, not a car I had any experience with but what a great little car to drive. Racing was again at Brands which I love anyway and we had some real close racing despite Doorman having sampled the winners shampoo pre-emptively. The commentary was somewhat amusing as a result. I have to play with some real cars tonight so I'll hopefully see you chaps on Thursday night for the next installment.
Great stuff again last night. Alphas and Cortinas for most with some good close racing and up to 8 on the grid. I'm now able to stay on the track for most of the race! It was good to see some new racers last night. I don't think I cut anyone up or ousted them unfairly but apologies if I did. I find that I have to spend all my time looking forward just to stay on the track!
Ooo you missed all the fun of the MkIIs.
Stately, controlled progress in an elegant manner while admiring that lovely burr-walnut and commenting on that annoying windscreen-wiper. Not!! :D
It was most enjoyable again last night, thanks. I have to apologise to Malcolm Reynolds who I took off in the first turn in my last race. Sorry, I simply did not see you until it was too late, I got a good start and thought I had beaten all to the first bend, I looked in the mirror and only saw cars behind. I did try to steer away after first contact but it was too late. My fault entirely. Anyway, it settled into a great race where Malcolm managed to get back into second and as my tyres were going off I nearly gave it all away. Looking forward to the next installment.

Nah....I watched the replay later on. I was on the wrong line for starters and as a result I went into the corner all crabbed. I knocked you flying too, so it was just as much my own fault if not all. Turned out a fun race anyhow :D.
Such nice gentlemen. After you sir. No, after you, I insist. :D Makes me want to puke! :lmfao:
I couldn't race last night, had to do a system restore :( . Well, only to last Friday.
What was that evil little track we raced last night? Had a nasty tight set of bends at the top end of the cct, I never felt in control of the car through them. Oldy was the quickest in terms of individual lap times by some way. Left me in a pool of sweat that track. Brands was good as usual. May not get to race tonight, but at least that gives someone else the chance to win. ;)
Racing tonight for me
Hope to see you on trackside tonight fellas !

Well, after about an hour of swearing at that bloody woman saying 'ERROR, ERROR.....ERROR', I managed to get Teamspeak connected up and running......and er....no one was on it :roflmao:
Still, 'least it sorted now &*%%$!..... &^£$%!.... %%$$^^!!!!!!
Oh dear, probably not the best time to tell you that because a couple dropped out we went back to ventrilo as it made life easier for me! I had a bloody good scrap with Deetz last night round Brands although we were for the most part about 4 seconda apart. For ages I was lapping with him 4 sec or so behind and he was not making inroads into that lead, then I changed down two gears at once going round Druids and span out as a result. Deetz got passed and the situation was reversed with me trailing him for the rest of the race by a similar margin, again, I could not make any appreciable dent on his lead. He did taunt me by telling me that the cloud of dust I could see in front at one point was not caused by him!
Too bad, never mind. Sounds like a good scrap though. Nice new tracks tonight though :D Spa, ...er Silverstein? er....and "Suzuka!!!!" Hope there's enough peeps on to make good.
Nice to have a couple of good laps last night :P
I actually managed to stay with the pack for a whole lap which pleased me immensely :D
Thanks, also, for the tweaking of the settings. I think that should make a big difference to the control. When I get a minute I may write up what you guys said and get it pinned here as it's worthwhile for any new bods.
Cheers

Good thing you baled in time eh? No egg on your face. :)
Ron and I tested that client software that sort of enables LAN over WAN and it works. Security-wise it seems they are okay, but dunno for sure. But.. I don't mind hosting a server if people are in the mood for GTL - only annoyance is the needed client. It is fairly simple though.
I am headed for Ron's LFS server, up and running atm. Cu there?

And so is the dMw server :D Not before time eh?
Brilliant races again last night . Chasing Oldie around the South City circuit but just not being able to get past, real edge of seat stuff. Damn near pulled the wheel of the desk a few times. Don't know how I didn't tail-end you.
Thanks to JAS for so kindly pulling over just before the finish line so I could go first! :dribble:
The peripheral vision is a bit limited so on some corners there was a bit of pushing and shoving, but it was all done in the best possible taste! :narnar:
Well we had a great race or two on the new public dMw GTL server last night. Del and myself against the hoardes and there were quite a few as well. I think we had 15 on in one race. Most were mature and provided some great duelling. There were a couple of idiots but in the face of overwhelming fair play they disapeared. Thanks Ron for the ability to administer the server and for my new tag, I will have to create a new profile so that I can use it. Del and I were very closely matched last night in a field of very good drivers but we still found ourselves in the upper half of the field come the start of the race and I believe in both we were in consecutive places on the grid. We will be racing GTL again on Thursday night as we both have commitments for Tue/Wed. Hope to see a few of more dMw or dMr types then.
PS, is it posible for us to change the tracks on the server Ron?
We had 21 in one race, and most stayed through that particular race, which was nice and quite a surprice. The top 10 was fast and clean and I had a great duel with a Falcon, I was in the Alfa. I never managed to overtake him, but just a few more laps and I would have had him
James, thanks for going over the car setup with me. I thought the options were minor changes, I see now that there is great room for improvement! The "soft" Alfa I ended up with was really fun :)
Cya thursday.
Quote from: JamesBPS, is it posible for us to change the tracks on the server Ron?
Of course. There's two ways of going about this. 1: Make a small(ish) selection every so often. This means it's not such a chore to run through them, or 2: Enable every track in God's heaven and let you spend and age getting to Zandvoort!
You choose. PM me your preferences and it's as good as done.
Is it twue that I beat Deetz again in a race last night?
Ooo it's twue, it's twue!
He did let me lead for most of the race but left his charge too late! :blush2:
Those MRT things are fun, must try them on some other small courses.
I had great fun last night in GTL with Del. Shame it was only two of us for most of the time. Sort of rekindled my interest in GTL and filled me with enthusiasm. I'll try to be back online tonight as well.
Well I should be online tonight and my mate Dave will be as well. Look forward to it.
i will be there as well at 8 PM
Well I have uninstalled GTL and CMR2005 and every other game I had that used Starforce drivers!
I was having too many problems with CDs/DVDs not burning propery so I uninstalled every game I could find that used Starforce then uninstalled the starforce drivers.
Result?
I can burn DVDs properly again and my computer seems a bit more responsive when "exploring" folders/files (maybe that's in my mind but it does feel more responsive)

Soz for being OT.
Don't get me wrong here, but I am a bit surprised. I am only running GTL and it has only been installed this once, but I am not having any problems. The machine runs as usual and my burner works... But okay, it might be the combination of several SF apps.
That said, if the GTR2 demo does come with SF (I have heard they included it even though it is a download and does not involve CD or DVDs) then I have two copies of the infamous program running...
Do you want to sell your GTL license?

No offence taken :)
I had 4 differnet copies of starforce drivers loading all installed by different games :( (select show hidden devices in Device manager and scroll down to non-plug and pray drivers you'll see your drivers there if they are installed)
I have 2 GTL keys up for grabs 4 what it's worth but I don't know what I need to do to allow someone else to use them - I think they have both been used for online play)
It's odd that many other people have said the same thing. Even odder that as many people say the opposite. I've not have any really bad experiences with Starfart except the over the top disc confirmation twaddle. Having said that, i don't burn discs so I wouldn't know. My instinct is that Starfart is not a good thing but what do I know?

Last nights experimental public LFS server proved a huge success! A full 20 car grid all evening, no idiots (despite my dire warnings of hell and damnation)

I also whistled past Ron on a tight looking line to much shock.....then careered across the road, side to side bouncing curbs in my excitement at being 'below par'.
3 races last night I was doing alroight until some monkey totaled me.
I was all forgiving as on two occassions it was someone decent...then I thought that they should be even better at avoiding, one was a rear end at the chicane, I obviously brake earlier than them. The others were side swipes on corners......
If you have a key bound to 'sorry' in my book you're guilty as charged.

You are SO bloody cruel sometimes!
Quote from: Benny;154119one was a rear end at the chicane, I obviously brake earlier than them
I can brake late (ask Oldie) and still get assaulted from the rear. Some people like to use others around them for distributed braking. I'll tolerate a mistake (you'll never see me lock up on cold tyres:whistle:) but some "racers" won't take any notice of other people around them, especially if they're deemed to be fast.
I think I'd found the hardware that Oldie's been looking for: http://tinyurl.com/ezy3r

Monday 9th. Absolutely fantastic racing tonight. The close, clean battles were superb! Oldie, sorry about the poor approach to the hairpin in that last race. I could hear the sound of a tongue being bitten down on. Remarkable restraint, an object lesson to us all.

Without doubt, the best sequence of good close races I've been lucky enough to participate in. Much respect to SparkyDave and the rest of the 'quicks'. Heaven knows how you guys hit those lap times (http://87.240.138.20/lfs/stats/2006-10-09_22.38.42_results.html).:worshippy:
Oh and Ron ... no problem.
My study is no more, it has become a kitchen extension, so until my PC finds a new corner I'm offline.
Suffice to say I would have battled up to third place last night. Great race Ron, I had you on the last straight. If it wasn't for the knickers all over my windscreen I'd have won it.
(For now I'll stick to the races that I've made up in my head)
Kitchen extension? Wasn't it big enough before :eyebrow:or have you moved on to roasting entire oxen for dinner?
Probably for making room for a larger kitchentable and such.
This post is about.....Last night's racing. Here is a replay of a heck of a battle up until lap 4. 3 into 1 won't go! (http://www.finnglish.co.uk/Stuff/3-1=no.zip)
TrackIR meanderings moved to their own thread.
Just to prove that all is not sweetness and light in LFS country. Tonight I had a 'mare! Punted off on in two consecutive races by complete tossers! Dummy was spat out so hard it bounced off the wall, came back and hit me in the eye! After a session of deep breathing and contemplation of my navel I went back on and the evening was rescued. :D
I did check the server status and Ventrilo about 2030-2100ish, no-one appeared to be about so I watched some of the Arsenal game.:roflmao:
Quote from: BigFatCat;160562I did check the server status and Ventrilo about 2030-2100ish, no-one appeared to be about so I watched some of the Arsenal game.:roflmao:
I bet we had more 'incidents' :sideways:
We had a least 'three sendings off' :eyebrow:
After a few nights of really good clean racing last night was a rude shock. :ranting2:
Some people just seem to rush headlong into bends with no regard for other racers or the fact that their tyres are cold just to get there first only to lose it or crash into the back of others and take them out. I started to adopt the hang back and worm through the carnage method of racing. I can accept the odd coming together which occurs when enthusiastic racing is underway but the dodgem mentality is depressing.
I think there needs to be some sort of management interface that can be run while racing to allow quick kicks without someone having to leave the race. Maybe another option on the players list that allows you to send and receive set-ups that is available to admins only?
Is this something that we can put to Scawen as a request for enhancement? :g:
I'd be happy to rotate out once in a while to act as "race director.":norty:
Make the welcome screen blatantly advertise it's monitored:learn:, post admin messages in-game to the same effect:49_49:, then
WARN:unsure:
WARN:g:
KICK:thumbsdownsmileyani
BAN:byesad:.
There's a few people who know that this server's not a fan of unwarranted contact.
Or go rolling start until the first corner's cleared.
Yes, it was blooming anoying last night with the idiots. Once my car was pretty much wrecked, I went on a baning spree  . (Is there such a thing as 'baning therepy' ?)
It wasnt as if enough warnings had been given out, as we even (shock horror) re-started a race....TWICE... with messages for everyone to behave etc.
AND THEY STILL DIDN'T GET THE IDEA, sheesh.
Still, once thay where gone we did get some fairly decent races.
I doubt Scawen can do it, but I want a button that will give these fools a frontal lobotomy.
I can't see a practical way of being able to admin the server while driving, so it does mean a non driving admin watching the race's, or as generally happens an admin leaving the race to do the banning, in my opinion this does seem to work fairly well.
After watching the replay of my last incident I have to put my hands up and admit to driving into the back of someone. Never mind that he thought he was on a different track/space/time continuum/planet/out of his head on skunk and pulled across in front of me and hit the brakes! The onus was on me not to hit the back of another car  /my bad
thank goodness i only participated in one of those ugly races and - thank goodness again - got through past one of the idiots as we barged down on him three abreast. however, since this is a (very) public space, there`s always going to be some form of lewd and indecent behaviour, sealing the space off would make it cozy but also barren, so lets just stick to kicking the odd fool and having a great time in between.

Been a bit off colour recently (had a cold) which meant I couldn't concentrate for any length of time so opted for CounterStrike as an alternative. But I should be back on track.
Pat keeps whinging that my chair squeaks too much when I'm racing, I keep leaning into corners  , so she's been happy that I've gone back to CS.

This is what you're missing Yvonne! I'm my view, this is classic LFS. A great race! I would recommend watching this twice. Once where you see the back of my car all the time and once where my mirror is full of Oldie all the time.

A brilliant race, indeed. Spoilt the rest of the night though as nothing was even gonna come close to the fun had there :D
Looking at the replay I see we intimidated Ben out of second place. He was coming out of the pits when I shouted 'Get out of the way!' His head retracted like a frightened tortoise! Sorry mate. :)
Lol, np, no way was I going to risk it. Listening to you two on vent having a fun time was quite entertaining.

Yes, but lets not forget that the kind of racing you got (and we want) must have been much more worth than a win or second place. So if someone is in the position to have such racing, it would be a shame to destroy it by splitting them or in other ways stop their race. So i feel that Ben did the correct thing. I would have done the same.
But in a leage race? No way! :boxing:
I watched that replay last night (fantastic race btw)... showing a petrol head friend the game .. 10 mins after he left I got a call saying he had bought S2

What the heck was on it before? There is a section of LFSers that think hybrid is the way to go but they melt within a lap or two!
Now this one WAS a cliffhanger. I'm glad I sat this out and spectated!
But who wins? (http://www.finnglish.co.uk/Stuff/whowins.mpr) :norty:
Last night was disappointing because of two incidents that, as far as I'm concerned, are not in the spirit of racing or dMw.
There is no need to name names - I simply want to remind people of the importance of setting an example to others. So ...
Do not slow down/stop allowing another racer to win the race.
Do not deliberately fail to pit because you think you're on a PB.
No big deal, just needed mentioning.
Quote from: OldBloke;178676Do not deliberately fail to pit because you think you're on a PB.
Well, that's told me! :blush2:
The beat goes on. Three nights in a row we've had terrific racing. Although the RAC tonight caused a bit of consternation among the brethren, (it's a tricky little devil!) dMr driving skills will master it. Ben, are you listening?

Heh, don't drive over them :lmfao: or come off the throttle and just bounce over, the outside wheel is still on the ground and steering into the corner, under power that pulls you over onto the roof.
I think they're fun :D
:withstupid: First couple of times I just seemed to be flipping everywhere. But once in a while I get the right combination of line and power and it flows. It's a bit like South City where unless you are accurate you get pants laps, but at least at South City you don't flip.
Oh and maybe it is worth running a softer suspension setup so it's more forgiving.

Cracking racing last night but for all the latecomers who missed Doorman's joke, here's the punchline .....
:tumbleweed:
*chuckles again*
I love Doormans jokes....no seriously, it's the delivery that cracks me up :roflmao:
At the start of racing last night chaos reigned! Someone, who is nameless, (BEN), modified the track we were on while we weren't looking. So if CS:S players were disconnected for a while it was because the Meathook and indeed the whole of the internet in the northern hemisphere was closed down while we tried to discover if we'd been hacked!
Personally, I thought is was Scawen Roberts having some fun with the master server but I was tittered down.
Eventually the perpetrator (BEN)owned up and normal services were resumed although (BEN) was referred to as TWAT for the rest of the evening. Sorry for any inconvenience.
C'mon, Ron. Name names. We can't have pointed fingers going to waste.
PS
Was it BEN?
What do you think I am, a grass? :eyebrow:
T'was funny though. :roflmao:
ROFL, I joined ventrillo first and immediately I heard the confused attempts to understand why there were marshalls and tyres on all the corner cutting points :) at this point I gave instruction on ventrillo on how to fix it. :tumbleweed:
Another rum and coke later and the server was up again, everyone joined and began to look for rogue tyres and marshalls...."nothing found so far" came the messages.... WAIT.... fatcat found some tyres :lmfao: despite me posting messages and verbally giving instructions on ventrillo on how to fix it, I was ignored..... what does Ben know, dMr are being haxored :norty:
I was going to own up at this point but felt the urge of n0rty again when I saw Doorman parked at the side of the track, I placed a track marshall in front of his car... OMG!!!! said Doorman, "a marshall just appeared in front of me" :D on instruction from Oldie he drove slowly into the marshall and got spectated :roflmao:
I quickly removed the marshall but he had been seen by other players, confusion abounded, "I'm off to the LFS forums to see if there's anything posted about this" announced Doorman....uh oh I thought, I better own up now before Ron makes a post but Oldie gave me another opportunity by announcing "I've placed two cones here, everyone come and check to see if something happens"
Everyone except myself went to look at the cones, some discussion took place about how only Doorman and Oldie could change the tracks on the server.... I put an arrow on the floor in front of the cones...OMG!!!, THERES AN ARROW, I SAW IT came the collective cry :roflmao: I deleted the arrow and placed a hay bale in front of the gathered dMrs... OMG!!! HAX0R... WE BEING HAXED...
Suddenly Oldie had a moment of suspicion "hang on" he said, "if I haven't done it, Doorman hasn't done it, it must be one of you lot"
one by one the names were said, Deetz?... "no", Fatcat?.. "no" Ben?... "ROFLHAHAHAHA"
I love you guys

But come on Ron, Ben parks up behind you just before the marshal appears, bit of a givaway there. Check your mirrors.
:D
This evening marked the end of a 'weekus horribilis' for dMr. Loads of being dropped by the server, to the point where there was no more hair left to be pulled out! Not to mention cars that once in the kitty litter were impossible to extract. This made for some fairly desultory racing. Anyway that's over now and the next track is Westhill with FXOs, RB4s and XTTs. Let's hope that next week will be a little more fun.

That's very thoughtful of you, old chum. I have, however, recently taken delivery of the new Yamakawahonduki Pacifier 3000 with inbuilt satellite tracking and real-time saliva monitoring (by analysing the chemical changes it knows in advance when it's about to be spat and automatically starts the 'come rescue me' siren and beacon). Remarkably, it also comes with a add-on which attaches to the base of my monitor which, on a signal from the Pacifier, tilts the monitor upwards allowing the speeding dummy to rebound safely away preventing those nasty eye injuries. I have, however, had to remove the light bulb from the ceiling light fixture as it is too expensive to keep replacing it and the blood stains on the carpet (I drive in socks) were becoming unsightly and causing OldBird to lecture.
Are you on the Bremner, Bird and Fortune script writing team? Marvelous post. :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:
Wonder of wonders! No dropped connections, OldBloke stayed on the island and apart from almost sending L56 to sleep, some good racing. :D

Lol, next LAN, Doorman vs OldBloke?
Place your bets.
Nice find Ron!
Tonight saw 35 laps of South City Town (reversed) and a field of about 18 or so. Turns 1-3 did not see the usual carnage which made a nice change. speaking for myself i had a good 19 laps duelling with and losing out to, several guys. Eventually I puntedone of them off and waited for him to regain his place (aren't I the gent!) I must either, pit on the lap I planned to pit or stop faffing about with fuel strategies and fill for the whole race! I ran out of gas and that was the end of my race. Spent the next 15 laps spectating. Hey ho, there's always next Thursday. :)
yeah.. no, we didn't have time to qualify and only had a few practice laps so we didn't have the right setup really...err... we changed setups just before the race and the car just didn't turn in right causing it to hit an inside kerb and flip over on I think lap 13, so...hmmm we'll do better in the next race as the new thingy we've been testing should be ready by then.
:nevermind:
Bad luck
With this week's proposed combo, we'll all have F1 TV roles to play in the highlights package...
I supposed "Farting Freddie" will wipe the floor with us, unless we make Ron his fuel strategist.

Lol! I just can't stop laughing when you guys start with the "farting"!
Was some nice racing yesterday guys...I was racing mostly on my own, trying to catch the two guys in front. The gap was aprox 2-4 seconds all race, and with them putting almost the same laptimes as me, it was impossible to get them. I hit the wall once too (i was the one ooopsing at vt remember?), but luckily i hadn't done my stop yet. So i didn't loose too much time. After M@ had to spec, i managed to gain some time on the other dude (can't remember his name), ending aprox one and a half second behind.
As you may have noticed, i don't talk much on VT. It's a bit strange to talk English like this, and it feels like my English drops in quality when i talk on vt compared to when i talk at school. Don't know why, but i'm sure i just have to get used to it :)
Loking forward to the next combo! :woot2:

Yikes, what a race :D No wonder I couldn't hit a thing in CS afterwards, my head was broken
Nice to see you too racing delanvital. :)
When we were racing, I thought 'delanvital'...hmmm...where have I seen/heard him...name sounds familiar...lol
Yeah, it was indeed a good race. After the first lap it started to go well and racing was good. The tricky car kept at least me concentrated all the time.
i went for a low fuel load and it payed off until lap 7 when a pub hit me, then my fuel plans went to pooh.
v good race thou had a ball, all we have to do now is convince ron to have a go at the williams :woot2:
Hmm.. I did two races last night. I started well, drove under 1:37 in laps 2-4 (previous lap time record 1:36:90) and I could keep my position in close racing, that has been difficult for me this far. I was driving better than ever and it just started feeling unnatural. :) My arms were getting stiff and eyes locked on the track in front of the car. It cannot be me driving this well I thought..
Then it was old me again. I hope it gets better after I get more experience of the close racing.
If you think that I was not clean in close racing then I would like to get some feedback of it.

Who is Jiska, what is he?
Appears from nowhere, races the wheels of all bar Aquilifer and a quick check on LFS reveals that this was his 3rd race ever. 1 in a UF1 (which he won), 1 when he joined mid-race at dMr (promptly did two 1.10 laps), and then the biggie. Obviously a re-reg.
I had a good start, went through the melee untouched at T1 and popped out 3rd. I managed to keep that place until lap 10 when Ben stole it off me and 4 laps on I managed to touch his OSR and spun him. Being the gentleman I am I waited for him and Aquilifer came sweeping by the two of us. Car was misfiring and I decided to pit early. Thats the last I saw of anybody. Saw Oldie in the distance a few times and then passed Doors (he was in the pits) and the last two laps were at a relative crawl in order to get over the line (0.3% fuel). Very enjoyable, but give me TarMcAdam any day!
Jiska might have been my ghost, but I doubt that a bit. I was expecting this race to be exciting, but my engine crashed at warm up before the qualification.
The whole story goes like this: My new graphics card has given some artifacts and I wanted to return it to the shop. So at 22:00 I decided to replace it with my old card that also had caused some problems sometimes, but not so much as the new one. Well, at 22:20, 40 minutes before the race start, I got to LFS just to notice that graphics was all just garbage. Re-installation of the drivers did not help. At 22:40 I started putting back the new card, now sweating already, thinking that this must work now.. But the whole PC refused to start anymore. at 22:55 I saw that the crappy Intel Core2Duo cooler had loosened from the motherboard. In panic I tried to put it back, but remembering how nasty I had to be last time to make it sit tight I decided to give up. But I wanted my revenge, so I took the cooler and twisted its legs a bit so that it would not seduce anybody ever to try using it again. With a crushing angst I went to bed, but could not shake a picture of you all happily jumping over the bumbs and sliding through the bends.
I hope you had a good race. If not, do not tell it to me, since then my suffering would have no purpose!
Despite my protestations about rallyx (which I haven't changed my mind about) I had fun. I ended up my usual 3 seconds off the pace, but hey! :)
I managed to NOT cock up the starting procedure this time so the pills must be taking effect. The highlight of my race was spinning in turn...two I guess, the long left hander before the backstretch tarmac, and had to sit there whilst watching Aquilifer come bearing down on me. ****ed him off mightily! Sorry mate. My philosophy on that kind of situation is to sit still until I know it's safe to move. Whatever I'd have done would have spelt trouble.

You certainly know how to treat a PC. Don't take any crap from them! :thumbsup2: We missed you.
I arrived late and a bit stoned, I tested a few setups to see what they were like with a full fuel load but forgot to change back to my usual setup after being harrased by the missus, so did the race with gear ratios that didn't suit. It took a few laps to realise, I think I was about a second a lap slower than normal.
I had fun with Doorman and his very wide car early on then tussled with Bob for quite a few laps
Quote from: Lameduck;215043Ben stole it off me and 4 laps on I managed to touch his OSR and spun him. Being the gentleman I am I waited for him
Heh, I knew you were going to hit me as I needed to shut the door as I was slower in the corner than you and knew you would have taken me, I gave a tut over TS to psych you out a bit :boxing: but you shouldn't have waited, we all know each other and any contact is always genuinely an accident, so from now on, if I hit anyone off I'm carrying on at full speed and I expect the same off everyone else.
OldBloke went past whilst I was in a long pit stop and I set off to catch him, ten seconds between us and 25 mins to go, half a second a lap faster I thought I needed. Ten mins later with red hot tyres the gap was THIRTEEN!! :ranting2: Oldie, your a natural, that was a good third place you earned...you should do more rallycross :norty:
Congrats to Aquilifer on your win :D
@Doorman
Don't worry about that one. I saw you spinned there and i thought I might be able to avoid you going past at left. I didn't try to brake so much because the stories of Titanic were in my mind (that they would have been able to avoid the iceberg if they had only tryed to steer left and not not brake/reverse). Of course grip is really bad on dirt compared to tarmac and it just slided straight to Doorman. I was bit unhappy because I thought others are just few secs behind me, which turned to be a false alarm.
That Jiska...It could have been him who slammed me out of track in T1. Another thing...having little lfsworld race/distance records doesn't give a proper idea how fast a person is. Many have driven lot of miles in demo or offline. For example I drove sometimes on the same demo servers with PartyboyU who has now c 16WRs. He was very very fast already then and I believe he was equally fast as soon as he bought S2.
I started a chase after I managed to collect myself from the T1 incident. Stoney and Jiska had a big lead I wan't able to get tehm before they pit. I had to make an early pit stop because of the T1 thing and it was wise also because I was behing everybody else. In the long term it proved to be a difficult thing. I would have needed a half way pit stop, because my right side suspension had gone bad (front right almost blown up). So I tryed to take few places more carefully and limit the jumps. I had pumpend more pressure and made few other tweaks to set so that i can make the whole race nicely w/o any tyre changes.
@Lameduck
Sorry. I didn't know it was that sort of thing. I just thought you had some sort of accident. I saw some room on the right and just blasted flat out.
@Romus
Sorry, you couldn't make it. We would have liked to see few more racers.
That's bad luck with your computer. I haven't heard/experienced CPU problems had caused artifacts in graphics. But I'm not an expert. I have usually asked the store the build up my PC so that I can get warranty for the build up quality too. It's cheap compared to the whole price of the system. And then the store can't blame me for fu***ing up the parts when building it. It's not that I couldn't do it myself, just getting guarantee everything works perfect.

No need to be sorry, as o000o said "I shouldn't have waited", it was an accident so if I had been you, I would have whizzed past and to quote o000o again "Congrats to Aquilifer on your win ":D
What a fantastic night's racing. All that dmr is, Clean Fair & Fun. Not a tosser in sight (apart from ********** and he did apologise):)
Thanks to all who took part, especially those who had me as their handicap.

A...q...u... mmmm...no... nope it doesn't match :g:
It was good fun. Bad that I could not join earlier. Aquilifer: Lamy means me of course. I was dummy to get into race with 0 practice laps done. :dummy:
South City is my favourite, so I hope to be racing more this week.

Romus doesnt nearly fit into the spaces available:D The tap you gave me was a little love-tap:rolleyes:
Hope to see you more often, but its the rear end of your car that I usually see:D

Er.....No, not me.

I slammed Scratchy into a wall as I tried to avoid Lameduck's spinning (like a top) car which was not actually spinning or indeed in front of me (lag event).
Scratchy, thinking it was a blocking move, said "That was a bit robust wan't it?" :roflmao:
Having also witnessed the strange results of lag I understood once it was explained - sim racing incident :D
It was an excellent nights racing, great to see the server so busy.
This looks like it will be a good combo, so much so that I have managed to swap shifts at work so I can be here on Thursday.
Hmmm Wonder if I can be sick again?:whistling2:

Approved! It's for your mental well-being. As a result you are going to be much more creative and productive at work.
What a terrific race! :) I thoroughly enjoyed myself out there today. Such a nice atmosphere, with smilies flying everywhere once someone made a new pb or a good pass! (Sorry I didn't post much during the race -- I have more than enough just concentrating on my driving..!)
I'm already looking forward to the next race!
I never got one of those smilies. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. :thumbsup2:
Hi Gnomie, glad you had a good race :D
We are on most nights, Sunday night is team racing and a good laugh.

Good time to start racing the long 'un with us, Gnomie. We've just started Quarter 4 (http://lfs.deadmen.co.uk/combostats/index.asp) on the race schedule and you're already on the podium :D

Woot! I fear it won't last long, though, but I'll try my best to defend it.
Hey Gnomie
How is the Track IR working?
I have been procrastinating about getting it set up and I know you have tried it...so how is it in game?
Thanks Todd

I know I'm not Gnomie but TIR is, for me anyway, indispensable. A fairly steep, but short, learning curve. Once you're used to it driving without it is like having your head in a clamp.

Hi!
In fact I'm using the free version called FreeTrack. Basically it just uses a normal webcam and a LED cap (for instance one of these (http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=829)) for the tracking. Having not tried the "real deal" (TrackIR) I don't have anything to compare it to, but to be honest I can't really see how anything can be significantly better than this.. it's working flawlessly, 'nuff said. :) So if you're curious about headtracking in general but reluctant to go ahead and spend all that ££ for TrackIR I'd definitely recommend you to try out FreeTrack!
The next version, which should be close, will feature support for using the Wiimote instead of a webcam for tracking. This will provide 120 FPS tracking! (Not that I see much use of that, really -- 30 fps seems to be doing the job just nicely)
Sadly my PC has a single-core CPU so I can't record a video using FRAPS to show you how it works, but here are some pictures:
(http://img227.imageshack.us/img227/8586/rac52cz3.th.jpg) (http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=rac52cz3.jpg)
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/9969/rac4ia5.png) (http://imageshack.us)
(http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/rac4ia5.png/1/w640.png) (http://g.imageshack.us/img99/rac4ia5.png/1/)
All in all I wholeheartedly recommend it. It just gives you so much more information, and adds a ton to the immersion! Sure it takes a little while to get used to, but once you do it's an indispensable tool. And it's free, too. :)
How was the team race tonight? :)
Excellent as usual. We missed you. :)

Things just got better. The new version of FreeTrack (which supports the Wiimote) is due to be released within hours!! Check this (http://forum.free-track.net/index.php?showtopic=1100&page=3) thread out for more details.
Wiimotes are expensive here though. :( I'll keep a close eye on Ebay in the following days!
The only bad thing about using headtracking IMO is that I sometimes get tempted to look sideways for too long in order to keep an eye on the cars around me that I don't pay enough attention to where my own car is going. :D (happened tonight on one instance) But that's just something I'll get used to, I expect.
EDIT: Oooh I'm a chocolate balloon!! :yahoo:
I felt my driving was'nt up to standard tonight and caused a few accidents without apologizing, let my frustration get the better of me, so I just wanted to say sorry to anyone I punted off. :/ I think I would have been better spitting the dummy and leaving a few races earlier
I didn't notice anything, but then again I was too busy punting people off myself.
Dont worry, we are all in the same boat (- a very edgy capsizable boat) and apologies are not expected under the circumstances. The OLD person however (no names, no pack drill) who suggested this track shold be _____________(fill in suitable punishment).:)
I'm quite like it. :D
There's some folks what can drive round buildings and other folks what want to drive through buildings.
Driving through isn't good, unless there's a serving window and a big bag o'burgers at the end.
I really like this combo - I like having to cruise through the winding parts and then flooring it over the last sections.
I was only about 8 secs off the pace last night which is good for me.
I will practice more tonight then make a decision on the 1hr race I might be able to pick myself through the carnage and get a good finish ;)
Quote from: Venom;247460I might be able to pick myself through the carnage and get a good finish ;)
Oi! That's MY plan! :sideways:
Don't worry Doors. It will be the same as every weeks racing... everyone hates it, then everyone loves it:D
Just like every Sunday....I Quote myself: "This Fuc*% Race_S sucks SHI#"
.......One hour later :"Hey this Race_S isn't that bad you know!!":roflmao:
We do it every week like a bunch of Lemmings:D
After screwing up by speeding in pits twice in two successive races tonight I re-mapped my pit limiter button, and now it seems to be working better. ;) Hopefully I won't mess that up tomorrow..
I've always found it a little troublesome to keep an eye on PBs and fastest laps and replying to messages while racing.. :blush2: So it's not to be rude that I don't reply, it's just 'cause my brain can't cope with doing two things at a time. (I guess that makes me fit the male stereotype pretty well.. :flirty:)

You are not alone. In fact I would love to see PBs broadcastable only to the driver making them and then it would be toggle..able. In my view PBs should be in the results list only. For example:
Dont mind the PB info so much myself, but that first split time was very distracting poping up on screen, I had to disable it.
