Well the Blizzard surely looks like a bit torrent client. So, most probably, that's its done. In theory, it should increase download speed, especially during the busy periods when a new patch comes out, as you'll have thousands of people from where to download from. But the opposite seems to happen :P
I wouldn't mind it if the downloader would come on when I'm not playing. My machine tends to stutter when the thing is on in the background.
its a good idea in theory as we won't all be hammering there servers when the patch is released.
i tend to download it from an offsite site, like the dutch UT. but anyway, the background downloader would work, if it only downloaded the whole patch and not just 80% and leaving 1000s of players wanting the last %s and still messing up the server
