Question:
GTL or LfS
Option 1: TL
votes: 4
Option 2: fS
votes: 11
We are locked on the horns of a dilemna.
GTL was unusable for three days recently because the 'lobby' was unreachable. There was next-to-no feedback from the GTL developers as to what the problem was or how long it would be down for. <_<
So Doorman fired up the LfS server in its DEMO mode so that our members without the full game could run off and get the free demo and race with t'others.
Damn fine fun it was too. :D
Some of us LfS owners who hadn't played it for a while were impressed by the latest developments and it started us thinking ... should we move back to LfS?
From opinions expressed on Ventrilo it was generally agreed that one is not better than the other. They are simply different.
GTL has the wonderful cars/tracks with familiar names. LfS is very user-friendly and has an active development team. The racing on both is highly enjoyable.
So. What do you think we should concentrate on? GTL or LfS?
Opinions please people.
LFS doesn't install Starforce drivers to screw with your PC :D
It gets my vote and its cheaper for people who want to buy iy which should make it easier to attract new people.
After some deep soul searching I am 50 /50
Reason â€" I love going around real tracks in real cars that I would never get the chance to try which gives GTL my vote
As for LFS ..Its as stable as a rock and the racing is a bit more forgiving keeping the pack tighter for better nail biting races
If we moved back to LFS as the game of choice it would not concern me at all ..Both are great driving games in there own right
The lack of support and buggy features of GTL do give me concerns though :ranting:
Also the price LFS £24 GTL £13
I may be wrong here but LFS seems to have a lot more players / servers and you get to use your own skins which is great fun
In general I'm with 'im up there ^ Physics in LFS have improved out of sight and is, in my view, more 'simulator'. Online skins  Developers that actually give a damn solid online play, it goes on. I do love the real tracks/cars but (Doggers'll love this) the various bugs and awkwardness of GTL lets it down. On balance, I'm an LFS man.
Oh, and I do skins to order :D
LFS LFS LFS!!!11
Sorry, it just so happens I don't have GTL.
I found I could get more feedback from LFS then the GTL demo. You can feel the car easier. LFS just agreed with me for some reason, it is the only racing game I've ever baught. Wasn't particularly excited about the GTL demo.

I have the demo installed which server do you play on?
Are you restricted to the in car view in LFS?
I have not played LFS much, well, only last night so it's difficult for me to be objective. I find that LFS gives me very little feedback about what is going on with the car and it's a shame that there are no real tracks, I love driving cars and tracks that I know. Could we not do both as I don't yet think that LFS is my bag entirely but GTL is as I love the cars in it.
I think it's hard to say LFS is more user friendly. You do have to know what buttons do what, espically in the car setup screen, which might make it difficult for those of us who are less technical. One thing to point out to a first time LFS user would be to try the 'race_1' setup instead of 'Hard Track.' I don't know if the Hard Track setup is supposed to emulate a standard road going setup for most cars? Also, before you fiddle with the setup options at the bottom, click the 'new' button first, otherwise it will overwrite race_1, or whatever else is selected at the time. (unless ofcourse you want to permenantly change that setup) When you click the new button, it makes a copy of what is currently selected. Maybe this is obvious stuff, but it took me and my neighbour a little bit to catch on. I ended up restoring the included setups from the LFS download.
edit:mind you, I am a naturally rubbish racer, so I could be talking out of my TANGO
While this debate is ongoing it makes sense to stick with the LfS demo so as many racers as possible can try it first hand and decide which way they'd prefer to see Dead Men Racing go.
The LfS server is called Dead Men Racing and, incase you need it, it's on 87.240.138.20
Our Ventrilo server is on: 87.240.138.23 Port 3784 Password: deadtalk
Well... even though logic is against me, I want to stick with GTL. LFS just doesn't do it for me. I mean, everything with the game is right but for some reason it just isn't as fun. Maybe it is the car sounds, the look-alike cars or something. Dunno. GTL for me.
After giving LFS a shot last night I must say that it just doesn't do it for me. Mainly its about cars and tracks as it was mentioned earlier. So GTL for me. I think it would be good if there was LFS and GTL going on in different days so people can enjoy both.
I fired up good old GPL this morning before I went to work, and wooh what a blast that is, I don't think it will ever get old. 65 mod is great too. Maybe somebody would like to give it a shot? 8)
Yes, I have to say that I think it's going to be GTL for me too. I had fun last night but it's not the same and really we have not had that many issues with GTL. Can we not do both? Charging around Brands in a Mini Cooper or Cortina is just superb, driving a fictitious circuit an an XRG Coupe or whatever is not quite the same for me. I guess the reason I like GTL is that it's "real". I have an affinity with these old cars and I guess that's what I enjoy.
How's about alternate nights? Wouldn't have a problem with that :)
Damn Simbin! If it hadn't have been for them feckin' up we wouldn't have this dilemma
I have to say at this point, that those of you who weren't immediately smitten with LFS, give it more of a chance. Also S2 has LOADS more to offer in the way of tracks and cars.
On the subject of 'real' v. 'imaginary' tracks, I've never driven on any of them so they could all be imaginary as far as I'm concerned. (never heard of Misano until I downloaded it!)
Yes, I'd be happy to alternate and I accept that I need to give LFS a bit more time, but GTL captivated me instantly and LFS just does not seem to flick my switch so that does not bode well for it. I understand that many have never driven the tracks in GTL anyway and as you say many of those that have been made subsequently for GTL I had never heard of either, but I have driven Brands, Donnington and Snetterton and I'm familiar with the layout of many others so driving real tracks feeds my enthusiasm for a sport I can no longer afford to participate in. As a newcomer I will obviously bow to whatever you decide, but I really would like to continue with GTL and you lot, because I have really enjoyed my online racing since I have been racing with you.
I've only played GTL and LFS a couple of times som can't really formulate an educated opinion (I can' say that spinning off both tracks is similar <_< )
Like others have suggest I would go with two nights so people get a chance to see which is preferable.
Ideally, though, can GTL please be on the Thursday :D
Cheers
PEN
Thursday gets my vote for GTL too. :D
Could you merge the two games together? The feel of LFS with the charm of GTL? I think the cars feel better in LFS, apart from the absence of feedback from the surface. But then I'm sure I could get used to just LFS or just GTL, or maybe both, alternating depending on what people feel like. So as far as I am concerned the answer is yes.
And yes the view is lovely from up here on the fence, but the splinters take some getting used to.

Helluva question! If I had my way you'd be restricted to incar view in LFS but sadly you can't enforce it.(Good thing about GTL) The question get raised every so often in RSC or LFS forums and I'm pleased to say that whenever a poll is taken, incar view wins by a very substantial margin. :thumb:

Now that's the crux of the matter isn't it? The most important thing is that we have enjoyable races with people we like nez pas?
From the posts up to date it looks like a compromise.
Thursday is GTL night, in stone.[/SIZE]
Alternate nights with LFS unless a majority on Ventrillo decide otherwise.
The message being; be on Ventrillo if you want a voice. (Hey! That's a damned good slogan :D)
Hurray for Thursdays!!! :dribble:

...and there, m'lud, the defence rests :D
except to say we have Mon night BF2, Thu night GTL, Fri night CZ and Wed night matches. So,
what about Tue being the official LFS night?

And so the argument goes. I'm not going to convince you in a million years that it's unrealistic just to see the road and vice versa. So we won't go there eh. :)

Don't rock the boat. If everyone else thinks the sun shines out of its little chocolate starfish, well then, you'd better just learn to pucker up, boy...
8) Well for me both Games have their ups and downs. I would not like to say that either is better than the other.
For me (and probably just because I have played LFS to death) GTL "just" shades it by a nats bollock.
I hope we can get healthy close racing in both sims, its the racing that deos it for me not the game.
I'm looking foreward to some good close FUN racing in both sims in the near future.
:D

Not the same I know but it's like using a wallhack in CS. You can see through a car you shouldn't be able to. That's unfair.
I don't think it is any shape or form in the league of a wall hack.
I get my enjoyment out of seeing a lot of the track and surroundings and not the inside of the car.
Also if it is a supposed cheat then why have different views in the game as standard?
Also my lap times are no different with regard to in-car or bumper view so it doesn't assist me at all.
You like to play in-car that is fine but why make others do the same because that is the way you like it?
My choice is to be made to play in-car or play at all. i choose not at all.

You do what you want mate. It's just a shame you can't adapt because we're having a blast
It's only unfair if other people can't do it so it can't be likened to a wallhack at all. The wheels view is my favourite in LFS, you get a very nice sence of speed :p The incar graphics in LFS arn't that spectacular either
I don't care. But, it is a waste of a big screen to have half of it filled up with a badly drawn cockpit.
.bye again.

One of my points, buy a nice big monitor only to see a small part in the middle that is of any interest.
We all like games for there different parts and with a simulator that may be it's looks, handling or both, mine is for handling but i want to also make the most of my nice big monitor and good graphics.
At the end of the day Ron likes to play in-car and it is also his server therefore his rules, i respect those rules. I may not agree with it but that doesn't matter

Point one. They are not my servers, they're dMw's server on BA2.
Point two. In LFS no-one can dictate the view you use.
Point three. In GTL I did make the server 'incar' only and on reflection that was wrong. It's not for me to dictate how you play. GTL server has now been changed.
Point four. There's no point in arguing about it. Although, for the life of me I.......

Can we have an option for both (there's more than 1 night in the week ;))
Quote from: BlueBallCan we have an option for both (there's more than 1 night in the week ;))
Doorman and I discussed this last night and decided that with our current small numbers it would be best to support just one racing game at a time. The vote will determine which one it's to be.
:taz: This means I've got to make a decision!
Oh I like both but I think LFS is a bit more real feeling, apart from the bouncing off the kerbs, and the sounds are not as good.
But we will be allowed to have the odd GTL nights won't we, please sir?
I hope so cos although I don't mind it, I can take or leave LFS.
In fact there are still two problems with it for me, 1 it does not feel at all real for me, I get no feedback to the steering wheel at all when the tyres are fighting for grip and that's just plain wrong in racing cars. I get plenty in GTL. And the big problem is still that its not "real"
I gotta argue with you JamesB  I use a joystick so I cant comment much on the force feedback, but the sound is synthsised and you can hear when the tyres are being pushed. The sounds are rather boring though, but they give a lot of feedback becuase they arn't samples
Looks like Live for Speed has it.
Well that does sadden me. I was very much hoping we could still do some GTL even if less that 50%. I have bought LFS but it still does not really do it for me. I think I may have to find somewhere else to race GTL which is a shame as I like it here.
