Title: Are five or six laps enough?
Post by: Sn00ks on July 14, 2006, 10:35:12 AM
I was wondering if it might be worth occasionally having some slightly longer races.
The short races are fun but if you make a slight mistake it is 'Good-bye Vienna'. Ok so you shouldn't make mistakes, but we all do, it is only a question of when.
If the race was longer then a small faux-pas would not be so disasterous and you'd have a chance to catch up and maybe regain that lost place or two.
I wasn't thinking of a 60-lap epic but maybe 10?
Or would that be too much excitement for the old folks to handle?

A long race sounds good. How about a 15 lap Brands Hatch? That is about 27 minutes. We could go for Mini's since they are more forgiving?

I remember driving the long races in the old Gran Turismo on the PS where you would have to do 100 laps. Me and mono would then swap over once in a while, so the other could have a break. That was fun... but too much for sure!

OT: I've been driving with mono for the past two days; I really like Kyalami in the BMW CSL :dribble: We didn't have any internet where we were, otherwise we would've been on DMR!

Edit: What about increasing the tire wear, car damage etc? Should be a penalty for driving aggressive.

As usual I think the race length depends on other factors. In thios case Circuit length.

But to aim for a certain race duration is a good idea, 20 - 25 minutes would certainly give you something to get your teeth into.

Some circuits will already be this long, SPA for example.

Pitty its just such a pain to chainge the race length.

Not in LFS it isn't.
So what we're looking for here is to sometimes have races with a TIME factor built in. I'd go for that. How about if we qualify, see what the lap times are and then, according to how we feel, multiply it by whatever to give us a 20-25 minute race? Personally, I wouldn't want EVERY race in that format 'cos I'm an 'old folk' (:flirty: ) but you have a very valid point.

I'm all for having a few longer races, after all, I have not yet managed to lap you all yet.  :narnar:

Does this mean we might be up for a 15 lapper once in a while?
