There are two files in particular that I like, the track surface one for Fern bay and the distance marker boards in green yellow and red.
The track surface is excellent and gives a 'less than pristine' feeling. :thumb:

Do you need to apply patch 16 or can you just go straight to 17?
Are there any configs I should save first?

Here's a little beauty! Ghostcar (http://www.kegetys.net/lfs/) by Kegetys. It not only does the normal ghostcar thing but marks out your previous laps line, braking and accelleration points. Works in single player and is ideal for honing skillz

Doorman, we need team sounds!
Title: LfS Add-ons
Post by: BigFatCat on January 18, 2007, 03:07:06 PM
We already have team sounds: Grass cutting, rev limiters in missed shifts, swearing and panel beating.
My personal favourite is LX4/6 tyres going sideways across tarmac into gravel and then the dull thud of hitting something very immovable, followed by a four letter voice outburst.

As I understand it you can tweak the sounds YOU hear. Don't get too attached to them though as they'll be overwritten by the next patch. Interesting, as you say.

Yes, but I also understand that the sounds can be shared and until that new version comes, some people will have fun developing new sounds for the cars.

Not that I am that interested. (anybody got a good LX4 engine?) :)

After a conversation with Oldie about tweaked car sounds last night when we generally poo-pooed the idea, I thought I'd better go and check out them out. (always a good thing to know what you're poo-pooing)
Well! First off, go get them HERE (http://lfs.thefloatingwidget.net/files/DaveWS_soundpack_patch_V.zip). Extract them to your engine folder.(This is an egg Grandma, and I'm gonna show you how to suck it.) You can type stuff into the chat window ingame to get them to work or...Make a backup folder and put all the original files in it (Still suckin', ole lady?) Then rename all the 'Dave' files to 'default' and job done. (Damned egg mus' be 'bout dry by now!)
I haven't tried all the cars but the UFR put a huge grin on my face. :D
Give 'em a go.
The original thread (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=19179) Generally good reception I'd say.

Alterative Westhill hi-rez http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=21393 To my eye he's got the grass and road spot on. Grass doesn't look so 'manicured' and the road not so 'textured'. I read and read but couldn't figure out what it's supposed to do?
Title: LfS Add-ons
Post by: vobler on July 24, 2007, 08:16:06 AM
Quote from: Doorman;198723I read and read but couldn't figure out what it's supposed to do?

I could only figure out this:
Auto-hi (mode 16)
----------------------------------
Tool to automate greeting friends entering a server.

Thats why I was asking Oldie to check it out. He knows this server stuff :-)

Here is the a tool list:

-------------------------------
-- Tools in detail ---
-------------------------------

Note that a tool can still be ON, but turned to be 'silent' (printing OFF).
See more information about this later.

Lap time logging (mode 1)
----------------------------------
Keeps log for every racer about the best race lap times and displays the race
best time. If good time reporting is on, reports good times even if not race
best.

Split time logging (mode 2)
----------------------------------
This keeps track of the best split times. Each racer gets logged separately,
but only the race best is printed to lfs, unless good time reporting is turned
on too.

Speedtrap/topspeed (mode 4)
----------------------------------
This logs best top speeds. Actually it measures the best speeds (for each car)
at a specified point in the track. So if somebody manages to drive faster at
some other point it is not logged. Speed is printed only if it is best for the
current race/qualifying session. It is also possible that slipstreaming can
give abnormally high speeds, but there is no way to prevent that.

Trip meter (mode 8)
----------------------------------
This is like a normal trip meter in a car. It is used to measure distances from
the car position and not from wheel turns (so it is more accurate).
Use the following guest commands:

!trip
  Displays racer trip meter
!trip on|off
Turn racer trip meter on and off (doesn't clear it)
!trip clear
Clears racer trip meter (doesn't turn it on/off)

Auto-hi (mode 16)
----------------------------------
Tool to automate greeting friends entering a server. It is sometimes difficult
to greet or even notice when some friend enters the server if you are racing.
This tool can be given a list of your friends and it will automaticly greet
them when they enter.

Alarm clock (mode 32)
----------------------------------
CURRENTLY COMMENTED OUT

Lap time estimation/comparison to the old best time (mode 32)
----------------------------------
Compares splits to the splits of the previous fastest lap. Gives the difference
of the splits and the lap time if continued at the same speed as in the old
best lap. Prints for example:  (ET=Estimated Time, S1=Split 1)
ET S1=0:28.500 (-0:00.230) -> 1:25.470

Car radio (mode 64)
----------------------------------
This requires Winamp and WARCUDP plugin for Winamp to work.
(See notes at the end of the chapter to see how to set other players!)

Stage Rally (mode 128)
----------------------------------
Tool to log events where number of racers drive separate 'stages' and the end
result is calculated as the sum of the stage times.

GPS (mode 128 - NOTE: NOW ALWAYS ON AND 128 IS STAGE RALLY)
----------------------------------
This tool prints the coordinates and heading of your car. Type...
"/o vcom gps"

...to get the information. The line can be like this...
GPS: X,Y,Z: 5167922/-18441595/21562,  ->89.95°(49161)

Good split/race times (mode 256)
----------------------------------
This tools displays messages if someone has driven a good split or lap time.
What is a good time is off course relative and depends at least on the car and
track.

Lap Logger (mode 512)
----------------------------------
This is the database used to log all lap and split times as well as some
other data about racers in your server. With this evertbody's best times and
last visit to the server are kept viewable to everyone.

Message board (mode 1024)
-----------------------------------
Users can type short messages into a message board (or a 'shout box'). It
keeps messages as long as VCom is not restarted and the age and count limits
are not crossed.

Messages are typed into the board with !min (min=Message IN) command.

Auto save race results (mode 2048)
----------------------------------
This automaticly saves the race results into an XML file (stored in 'out'
directory) for later viewing or putting them online into web.

Track rotator (mode 4096)
----------------------------------
You can give a set of tracks which are rotated repeatedly. Actually not just
tracks, but other race settings can be rotated too. The tracks and other
parameters are given in setup file in the 'rotate' section.
The things which can be rotated are: Track, allowed car(s), laps, qual time,
weather, wind and forced pit stop (yes/no).

Idle kick (mode 8192)
----------------------------------
This tool kicks players who do not move to spectate. The kick happens if the
player doesn't move for a specified time.

Pit stop timer (mode 16384)
----------------------------------
Displays a time how long the pit stop took. This is visible to all players.

Flood filter (mode 32768)
----------------------------------
If a guest floods too many messages in too short time this can automaticly
handle that.

Alternative point system
----------------------------------
VCom can be instructed to give 'alternative' points to racers according to
a fully customizable table. This table can be like the one used in F1
(points to top 8 racers) or totally fictive. Currently points can be given up
to 16 players.

Silent mode
----------------------------------

You can stop VCom sending any text to LFS by giving silent option to it. It
will still keep doing the same logging and other stuff. It just won't send any
text to LFS about the different tools. There are just two exceptions.
- Greetings (auto-hi) will send text to LFS. If you want it off, just turn the
   auto-hi mode off.

This pack covers the Aston, Blackwood, Kyoto and Westhill tracks.

We`ve tried to improve on our last pack. Although you may not notice it straight away, you`ll find a lot of improvements in the overall look of the tracks. Many of the older textures have been tweaked where we weren`t totally happy with them, and we`ve also worked on the newer textures added in the later Y test patches and the full patch Z.

It's worth checking these before you jump in and install them. If you have a collection of real ads these will be replaved by higher res versions of the originals. i.e. Scavier, live for speed Germany :sideways: etc. You know, the made up ads. The Blackwood pits dds files, 3 of them are ok. I scoured the dds folder and there was nothing of any consequence in it, but then again I may already have everything. except the straw bales but you know how I like straw bales! :norty:  The point is the size of the 'new' one are the same as the 'old' ones. Just check them out first.

Title: AIRIO - Advanced LFS Tracker
Post by: vobler on January 28, 2009, 08:54:12 AM
Is this something that is could be usable for dMr?

---------------

http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?p=1029788#post1029788

Hello, racers and server administrators!

After about 9 months of intense development, debugging and polishing on the AirAttack servers I believe the time has come to offer you a completely new LFS tracker â€" Airio. It is an InSim application designed to connect to a dedicated LFS server and provide extensive services to both racers and administrators.

First, I'd like to present here some (really, just some) points that make Airio unique for users and admins:

What may racers like:
Many settings, all available through graphical interface (selections are made by clicking on buttons, see the attached picture)
Selectable user language (one click changes all user messages)
Complete personal customization (what information is shown and in what form)
Detailed timing info on all split points (including sector times and comparisons with selectable base)
Extensive personal stats (theoretical best, best race time, points gained)
Protection from other racers (using many configurable filters such as bad language or wrong-way driving)
Easy access to LFSW stats (own and other connected peoples', if properly configured)
Automatic restarts, track rotations, vote management, racing for set number of minutes
About 30 user commands in many variations (showing all kinds of race/server stats, allowing customization)

What will interest administrators:
One instance of Airio may connect to several LFS servers at the same time (to save resources and to ease the site management)
All servers connected to one Airio instance use common stats (no synchronization necessary)
It is possible to define people with limited admin rights for partial server management (kicking, restarting; altogether approx. 10 additional commands)
Many advanced filters are available (lagging checks, locking by LFSW/server lap time, limiting car setup options such as tyres or automatic gears)
Everything is configurable using extensive options in external text files (more than 100 items to tweak)
All settings and options can be updated "live", while Airio is running (no reconnect/restart is necessary)
LFS Lapper PB file import and export (on demand or periodical e.g. for Web stats)
All actions and events are saved into detailed system log (allowing to see later what happened and why)
It offers several options to communicate with users (text shown on connect, periodically displayed messages, server rules/notes)
About 15 admin commands are available (allowing manipulations with stats, showing servers' state, joining and parting LFS servers)
Requires .NET 2.0, works in Windows and also under Linux with Mono

The above are just some of the possibilities and options. To read a bit more and to see the Airio settings screen and some output data browse to Airio Features Overview. To see Airio in action visit "www.airattack.co.uk #1" or "www.airattack.co.uk #2" demo servers. You may see Airio managing S2 servers at "[AA] AirAttack Rally" and "[AA] AirAttack Racing". Note that all four above mentioned servers (plus two external) are controlled by one running Airio instance with all the advantages such arrangement offers.

Airio is a complex system; still it can start to work for you (and your users) after updating just one text file â€" entering data necessary to connect to a LFS server. To fully grasp all options and the meaning of some not readily understandable items read the Airio User Manual and the Airio Admin Manual. Be warned though, these documents are rather lengthy, simply because the application requires it. On Airio Home Page you'll find other sections of interest, such as FAQ or Full Version Manual.

Well, if you have a feeling this sounds interesting, just Download Airio Now (optionally with language pack), set up your connection to a dedicated LFS server and run it. You'll get a powerful tool for yourself and you'll also offer racers fully customizable racing environment with lots of data or none at all, just as anyone wishes and likes. You may also create very strict or lenient racing environment, just as you wish and desire.

There have been people contacting me earlier and asking where they can get the system for their own servers. They usually said it is currently the best tracking system running anywhere. While I will not comment on that statement, I’d like to add that they have seen only the user part, but most of the innovative things are in fact in the administration part, hidden from regular racers.

I've discussed using it on the Demo server with Ben. Nothing but glowing reports so far it must be said.

I've seen it on their servers and from a user perspective it works well.  Only supports text files for data storage at present, but does give details of how those files are laid out... just means you have to do file handles instead of SQL queries, but gives rise to the disk fragging issue...

Personally, I would never put anything personal on a computer or laptop that isn't mine. I've heard several stories of people who - for whatever reason - got fired and had to leave the building immediately; they were not allowed to startup their laptop to copy some personal files or pictures or whatever to bring home with them... nothing. That's actually a pretty common procedure, as far as I know. Only last week one of my sister's colleagues had it happen. Guy had been working there for 14 years, but they had to fire him (economic crisis and all that, same reason I'm unemployed at the moment) and he was literally crying as he stood in the elevator on his way out. He wasn't allowed to clean out his desk or to go to his computer, he had loads of pictures from his little daughter on his laptop and stuff... all gone.

Laptop is far from being a free gift, as it allows me to catch up with my work at home without clocking in / out, so basically unpaid (as in free) work.
The amount of it varies but easily pays off the laptop yearly...
If I'm chucked out it will be with a 3 months notice (and will not happen within the next 6 or so considering my workload), and the only personal stuff in the laptop is LFS (won't run on my ageing mac :)) - no problem to download it again.
Good luck finding a new job, times are not easy.

Define how old your computer is please. I have a Dell 4600, P4, 1gb of ram, and a 256 graphics card. Is your system slower or faster than mine?
Just wondering if I should even bother to install the texture packs or leave off until I get a new comp.

 Thanks Todd

Athlon64 3200+ 1 gig of ram and a 6800GS (256 meg)

I've installed every hi res texture i can find for LFS and I've never seen any noticeable difference in FPS.  I have it locked at 60FPS and there it stays.

I downloaded and tried the pack. So of course I had to take it for a test ride. Since I'm still on vacation I had to use a mouse, and I had a couple of rather unfortunate close encounters with the walls. On the plus side, I got to see how nice the reflections look! :D

No performance drops here either. Looks very nice!

This (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=56690) you may find interesting. I loaded it up, changed the FF ingame to 25% as per instructions and had a drive (XRT) I have to say the difference was...subtle, but as I turned some laps (I 'turn' laps these days :roflmao:) I began to think it felt better. :g: See what you think.

Had a play with this and I'd say it has a lot of potential. Defo a more progressive feel to it all, but I had some problems with jolting and sharp violent FFB which was kind of annoying when going round bends and stuff.

Also it seemed as if the FFB just dropped away at certain points then comes back violently again. Had the FFB Setting to 25 in the options like he recommended and tried a few cars.

Did you get this too?

I thought this might be worth a bump.
The FF .dll (HERE it is again) (http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=56690) really makes a difference to my mind. The FXR is the first car I tried it on and the difference is marked. There is a feeling of lightness when the front gives way....well, give it a go, see what you think. Turn your ingame FF down to about 25-30. I don't know how this feels if you use 360 degrees steering though.

Ahh cheers Doors, I was wonder about this after I heard you mention it the other night.  Interesting, I never really even considered the need for a mod to alter the way LFS handles FFB.

Author:
"This little dll intercepts FFB commands issued by LFS, and apply some weird filter to make you feel whatever can be felt inside the FFB (bumps, grip loss...etc.) while avoiding clipping"

What does he mean "Avoid clipping"?  I am familiar with the term when speaking about audio, is it the same kind of thing? E.g. he feels that the default effects spike to their maximum sometimes, meaning your missing out on some finer information?

Anyway, I guess Ill give it a try.

Yeah, big difference, but I didn't like it. It was a mix of LFS feel and something else, and that was not good at all. :) But it was a nice try. The idea is something like the Realfeel for rFactor. Maybe somone else could make it better. I don't know.

If you read through the whole of that thread there are widely differing views. From Moose who said it robbed him of any FF at all (MSFF. I wonder what he feels about it with his new wheel)) to someone who wanted Juls' babies! :lmfao: Turning the in game FF down to 15% did the trick for me. (101% in profiler)

I also heard that you need to turn quite a lot of laps before it calibrates properly.

Apparently I still have control, but will transfer to Jamin. Had a look at Team Section data and LFS Remote not mentioned. I've never switched it off (dont know how to ) and think it was in an Insim section. Will try to reinstate.

Yeah, it's an insim thing and it has to be kicked into action every so often. Press 'Reactivate'. My memory has dimmed but I do recall it was a fiddly thing. :)

Just a reminder regarding alternate engine sounds available, at http://www.lfsforum.net/showthread.php?t=44432&highlight=Gills. You need the S1,S2 and Demo zips for the full monty. Unzip into the Data/Engine folder and click on Shift+A for availability.
