Title: Possible Lag Source Found...
Post by: DogMeat on June 29, 2002, 03:45:50 PM
SNARE System iNtrusion Analysis and Reporting Environment.  This sucker examines every connection and transaction signature coming into homer. I'm surprised we could play at all considering it would grab up to 99% of the processor useage whenever it felt like it.

I've stopped it as of now.  Need feedback on performance with a goodly number of players, so if you see/join MH with more than 5 players, please run Ping Plotter and have a look at the results when you're done.

Just got ping plotter. What setting do you want us to use?

Just point it at homer.deadmen.co.uk and let it run while you're in the game.  When you quit, you'll see the graph of the pings to the server.  Right now, I'm seeing an average ping of 25 over the last 3 hours, which is what I'd expect to see.

If there are large spikes associated with players being on the server, I'll have to look at other options...

That was much better tonight. I've mailed you a ping plot file incase you want it. No lag at all!

Gandy and FatBob were having problems last night.

FatBob complained of loss.

Gandy - What problems were you having and what did your pp trace show?

My connection was sweet.

I've seen Gandy's plot. (Oo-er missus.)  Looks like ISP lag which seemed to get better.  My connection was fine, unlike my m4d 5kill2... o|

I think it was ISP problems. Something to do with the bast's routing via the US still!

I'll run PP tonight too and see if it's any better.
