So anyone else been keeping tabs on this?
From the reviews and stuff I've read about it sounds like a great improvement on BF2.
Its released in a few months - will any of you guys be getting it?
That depends, not sure if my PC can take it. The planned Shuttle can manage it but that'll depend on when it's coming out.
As said over PM, I'm on the ranking parts a bit again and I've got to say that BF2 still has enough in it to be played. I'll have a look after the demo or so.
I've been waiting eagerly since the first previews - it looks awesome and I'm so very tired of real-world settings for online shooters (I guess 6-7 years of things like CS and DoD will do that to a person). Also, you get to drive big walking tanks. :D
With any luck I'll have a new computer by the time it comes out though, as the one I'm on now struggles a bit with BF2.
Yea, i remember seeing a review a while ago, it looked good, will probably buy it :)
Obviously I'm hoping they will have given it a severe play test after some of the problems they've had with BF2 and subsequent patches. Still I sometimes forget that BF2 has only been out a little over a year now 21 June 2005 to be precise.

EA plan to release an open beta of 2142 a few months before release, I'm sure thats what I heard in an E3 interview with one of the 2142 project managers.

Who knows, there might even be a demo server available for 'LAN X'.

More of an openish beta - just keep your eyes on news sources and community sites.
Some BF2 2142 stuff that sounds cool:
- Veteran player: for those that bought Bf2: your game name will be reserved so someone can't nick it
you get a tour of duty medal (whoopee) and labelled as an experienced player ingame
you get an automatic promotion when you first play and an unlock
you get a ingame exclusive war game dance to taunt other players
- Support class gets sentry guns ala Aliens stylee
- Assault gets this hovering robot that follows him around and is a weapons platform
- no lasers for troop weapons still use bullets
- Reduced number of kits from to 4 kits, they've amalgamated some of the classes that weren't used as much so now Recon = Sniper and Specops features combined, Support, Assault, Engineer - AT and Engineer features combined
- larger loadout of equipment and weapons which you can choose from your unlocks before a game
- homing vehicle mines
- predator style 'cloaking' for the recon class, but cloaked player leaves shadow and has an outline, can't fire while cloaked
- different vehicles but balanced ie one side has hover technology for tanks but fixed turret, other side normal tracked tank
- when you knife someone you get to keep their dog tags and these will be recorded in your stats
- pixel shader support, improvements to graphics engine
- helo and plane combined into one vehicle which is easier to fly - pilot has no weapons they need gunner to fire
- EMP grenade/missle - temporarily knocks out vehicles including those that fly - they lose control temporarily
- Vehicle Active Defence - shield protects it for a few seconds etc
- Sniper class - now has more realistic breathing and drift - have to hold breath to get crosshair steady
- Titan mode - both sides have Titans, large dropships in orbit, you have to take out sheilds on grounds first before you can assault it directly, then you get onto Titan and game moves to interior fighting where you try and take out their sheilds and ultimately their reactor to blow it
- Commander can pilot Titan
- APC can also fire you up in assault pods to allow you to attack Titan
- Parachutes still available
- new vehicles such as bikes and 2 legged AT walkers

No mate, erm well you see its set in the future :laugh: cool thing though, some of the guns have their names on the side of them - I don't know why I think thats cool, I guess I liked it in Snatch where you saw 'Desert Eagle 5.0' written down the side of Bullet tooth tony's :narnar:

It's .50 actually. He wouldnt be able to carry a 5.0 calibre weapon! Bit difficult to casually stroll into a london pub wheeling a small field piece!

Ok mr pendantic obviously I meant .50... actually :narnar: Though as I didn't put a measurement, I could have meant 5mm and not 5 inches as you may be presuming? :whistle:
