Title: Why Crusader is not the best end game enchant......
Post by: TeaLeaf on August 18, 2006, 08:25:56 AM
There was a real nic epost from Irulan on the realm forums yesterday which I will brazenly steal and duplicate below.  I never knew this, so the info is real nice to know and changes my mind about which enchants an end game warrior shoudl have on their weapons.

Before reading this post I thought Crusader was a good end game enchant, now I don't and would suggest +15 Agi instead.  The post debunked a few things for me, I hope it does for you too.

TL.

Quote from: IrulanIn end-game tanking you DO NOT want crusader, easy as that. It might seem like a decent enchant, with some extra threat from the AP and a nice heal every now and then, but.. It's a proc that gives you a buff. This has a couple of drawbacks.

1) It's unreliable, when your in deep **** and need a heal, or you could use some extra threat, it won't proc.

2) This thing gives you a hidden "buff" that gives you the chance on hit that gives you the actual proc, which is another buff. When your endgame tanking your probably buffed and potted to the teeth. Now there is this lame thing that is the bufflimit, you can only have 32 buffs on you any time. This may sound like a lot, but a lot of crap stuff actually gives you hidden buffs (your stance, procs and even your +stats on items are considered buffs, just not visible) These hidden buffs add up to about 12. This leaves room for about 20 buffs, which still sounds like a lot, BUT when your END-GAME tanking this isn't unusual to see:

1: Power Word: Fortitude
2: Battle Shout
3: Gift of the Wild
4. Blessing of Kings
5. Blessing of Light
6. Blessing of Might
7. Flask of the Titans
8. Food buff
9. Devotion Aura
10. Aspect of the Wild
11. (Resist) pots 2-5

Now we're at 25+, which isn't uncommon in end-game tanking.

BUT WAIT, theres more !

1. renew
2. greater heal
3. rejuvenation
4. regrowth
5. abolish poison
6. Power Word: Shield

Now, we've hit the magical 32 mark.. and what happens *BOOM* crusader proc. Now you got 33 buffs, which can't happen, so one has to go. Now according to Blizzard, it should be removed and come back as soon as there is space for it, but in reality, this doesn't work for all buffs. The first buff that will ALWAYS get bumped off and won't come back untill you re-apply it, is defensive stance. You just lost 10% damage reduction because your crusader procced, kinda sucks eh? And it gets even better, if your unfortunate enough to get another buff hit you, what will go away then? *drumroll* ... it's the flask.. and it won't come back. You just lost 1200 HP, 10% damage reduction and 50g (and probably a 2-3g repair bill), just because that PoS procced.

Go with 15 agi. It gives you a reliable .75% crit (extra threat !), .75% dodge and 30 armor (more damage reduction then crusader will ever give). And it won't **** you over on a bossfight.

Why Crusader is not the best end game enchant......

For END-GAME tanking!! Crusader might still be considered best for other purposes such as dps/grinding. But personally, I have +15agi on my 1hand axe and +15str on my dagger

I personally have never enchanted a tanking weapon as I dont have a decent one yet worth enchanting, but I know for a fact that I wouldnt put a crusader on it, maybe 15 strength or agility, but not crusader. However, I still like to have crusader on my 2 hand as it does proc quite often and is a nice ATP boost for dps :D

They will significantly increase the number of debuff slots in the expansion, so this will no longer be an issue then.

In any case +15 agi is superior to crusader for tanking, simply because it gives you 'reliable' damage mitigation and additional threat. Like Irulan already stated at the bottem of the post.

Crusader is only good for slow 2-handers; personally I wouldn't put it on anything else (if I was a warrior that is  ).

btw this blows out his whole reason crusader sucks :P

Taken from the 1.12 Patch notes

QuoteBug Fixes
  • Flasks and player buffs should now be behaving according to the priority system. This means flasks should no longer be the first buff erased when a player exceeds the current 32 buff limit. The general buff priority philosophy is: Flasks, Stances and Shapeshifts > All other Buffs.

it would still not be the ideal tanking enchant since 15 agi gives more dmg avoidance.
