Title: dMw - The Positive Challenge
Post by: TeaLeaf on August 23, 2006, 07:56:03 AM
In the search for positive in light of the recent departures I have been challenging my grey matter.  One of the things that I've been thinking about is the structure of dMw and how that fits in to game play, but also what we deliver to members, or what stops them from joining or continuing as a member.  Several things struck me:

What will leaving dMw to set up a CZ clan provide that we do not.
Membership structure (the qualifying period for Charlie membership specifically) does not allow recruitment of quality people who are also quality players to the community rapidly.
We all stuck around dMw in the early days mainly for match play and BF2/DMR does not offer any competitive game play at all.

Clearly our structure needs some thought, it has served us reasonably well to date, gave us quality control of new members, but is it fit for purpose going forward with the multiple game support we offer?

We should consider if the BF2 sections and DMR sections could entertain some formal competition.  Without something official to go for will we ever be able to attract volume people to both our communtiy and our servers?  If we do not provide a healthy population on our servers then we are not providing as much as we could to our members imo.  So how do we ensure we attract and then retain good quality people without making them jump through overly complex hurdles?

I'd be interested in your thoughts on these issues, I have my own embryonic ideas, but would prefer to hear yours first so as not to pre-judge or sway people in their opinion.

Your detailed response would be appreciated and when you do respond please consider nothing off-limits.  If your idea would need a total change in communtiy structure then let's hear it, nothing should be ignored in the search for the best way forward.

Given that KKND has just left dMw and has joined VG (I checked and he is online there) I wonder how many more there are to go. Maybe we should ask them to reveal themselves and avoid the tension of waiting to find out <_<

I REALLY hope VG aren't approaching our people!!!!!!!!!

I'm bothered by it, but I am more interested in what we do going forward (I don't want this thread to be about vG).

I'm going to have more time to put my thoughts down on Friday.

I find it very difficult to create long flowing articles just now so if you'll forgive me I'll brain dump ideas as they come to me.

1. We need to get the Public Server (Razer) used by the regulars as their preferred first port of call rather than just going straight to BoD.

2. It would be good if all 3 of us could appear on friday night MH (even if only for a while and not every week but if the main guys don't appear the rest are unlikely to.

More as it comes to me

I loitered on Boomer tonight. Sn00ks, Blunt, Swiss and few others (plus one prat) also appeared and we had some good games. CS:S has improved a lot I must say. However we started getting lots of lag. I don't know if it was the LFS serever OB setup or not. If it is then we might have to rationalise the servers a bit (do we really need 4 CS type servers running?)

3. Maybe we should start going down the CS:S route?

I think we certainly need to cut down on the servers used. Need to think more.

Talk tomorrow - bed time :)

Thoughts before I forget, from threads in the forums:

How do we allow SoG players when not in WOW to see who is online - and how do we see where they are?

Two possibilities spring to mind:

and

http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=10494 <- XFire Information

More thoughts before I go out.

Give subscribing members admin rights on CS:S/CZ or whatever server and then make them public.

Now that has possibilities (both positive and negative) however it is DEFINITELY worth discussing further.

Bad idea (IMHO).

I think we should steer well clear of any 'pay to play' issues. You shouldn't be able to 'buy' admin rights.

OB and I were on MH tonight (I know fridays is bad for you TL as it is a raid night) and it was almost like the old days. Lots of old names, lots of me dying. Lots of fun. We really should do this more often.

Is there a night where you don't raid TL and also don't have to partake of RL? We could have an old boys night?
