Title: WoW @ LAN
Post by: sheepy on August 29, 2006, 09:49:34 AM
Hi guys,

Due to the incresed atendance of WoW players at the next lan, the gaming commity felt that it was important to "officaily" organise something for the WoW players or "dungeon crawlers" as my associate on the gaming commity put it.

I have taken over organising this in the split of responsibility.

Id like some comments on how we can do this, would private server up at the lan be the best option? I dont think that the internet connection will hold up to many ppl accesing azune from the lan, how did this work out at the last lan? I know a few guys has a quick blast at wow, how laggy was it?

so some suggestions then please.

PLEASE KEEP THIS ON TOPIC AS I NEED TO GET IT ORGANISED QUICKLEY.

U can start a private server on a lan (although it aint legal :) )
But thats not as much a solution as u might think it is.
Since u have to start all over again, as a lvl1 toon
and most ppl dont like that. rolling a new toon, getting it to lvl 20 maybe reach deadmines and then delete it as the weekend is over, is not the way most ppl want to play this game :) (for comparison  my "main" has over 38 days played on it.)

Although if u jack up the xp and magic droprate, it has its own kinda fun :)

You do know if you have a private server you can change all the rules. For example killing a lvl 1 mob gives you 12 Levels  . But why play wow at a lan anyway?

it is just a question, if it is decided that it is not worth it then we wont bother and will just concerntrate on other games

Would be cool to get something running locally on the lan.  Say if we for instance are 5, 10, 15 folks there who want to play some WoW, we could use the powers of the private server to get 'em all to levels for some of the fun instances (say do some ZF, SM, DM or whatever)  Not that I know how to do it, but if it's not too much work it would be quite cool!

Hoping that there is a internet connection good enough to play a bit on Aszune as well, but I'll brind my BF (1942, Vietnam, 2) CDs as well, so I won't be too bored

We played it at the LAN last time, A 4 man run to Uldaman for Jamoe. It was a bit laggy but playable. I would think a 5 man would be the max.

It's easy. Hack the router and QoS prioritize the WoW ports ;)
