This is a quote from a post in the addons section, and I thought it deserved it's own thread:
Quote from: Knabbel;146532Personaly I dicourage these addons because it withdraws the attention where is should be:raiding. I understand that waiting can be long sometimes, and at the beginning of a fight when invites just started can take long sometimes. This is primarly due to the fact people not showing up and their for it's needed to get replacements.
If things are cleared out for everyone their shouldn't be any waiting at all.
I'm sure their will be lots of more addons coming out to play, things will get messy if all will be using these mods.
So I rather not see these type of addons in one of my raids.
D.
I have briefly mentioned this earlier in another thread, but it never ended out in a good discussion.
My oppinion on these kinds of addons (like this Chess addon, and also the Poker addon that has been in use by some for some time) is about the same as Daedalus': I think it withdraws the players attention from what they
should be thinking about in between fights, such as "what went wrong", "what should I be doing next", or just general focus.
I think it would just be nice to hear the oppinions of other members on this case too
And perhaps also some kind of "official" statement from the officers?

Personally i havent tried one of them, but i just know that the waiting period (15min) after Nefarian is *really* boring, and i can understand if people are playing something between this fight.
The rest of the instances / fights doesnt really allow time for these things, and as long as people are paying attention when we are fighting, im happy
Btw, this is my own opinion and not discussed among other officers

Actually those 15 minutes can be used to something other than playing poker or chess or whatever, which will both make the waiting between fights shorter, and make us able to have more tries in a shorter amount of time - say for instance:
As soon as everybody are back at the balchony (shouldn't take more that 5 minutes), one could start handing out the 1h buffs. Than when there are 4-5 minutes left untill Nefarian respawns, the 15min buffs can be handed out (yes, you might loose a couple of minutes from the buffs, but it almost
always takes some time before everybody gets them) and when all buffs are ready, have groups move to their respective sides.
This way the raid will be ready to go
the very second Nefarian respawns!
It should not be hard to do it this way, since it takes
exactly 15 minutes from the scene is reset and till he respawns...
Just my two cents on this particular case
Personally I woudl discourage them, if you're focusing on the chess (eg) then you're not thinking about how to do your job better on the next attempt.

well, personally i managed to win a poker game while tanking ony.. and no ppl didnt die :P
but since ime lazy, i didnt update it, and i dont know how to even play poker lol..
/slap gorion
As long as they are ready when asked and not spamming raid/guild with it i dont really have a problem.
if people really honestly did their job great then it can't hurt to relax a bit as long as it's not preventing other people from analysing their performance.
e.g. if a tank keep aggro from 90% of the drakonids at nef (no, 100% isnt possible for various reasons) then tank can't really do much more to help. personally I won't play games between fights because tho i may have spanked the drakonids, I like to hear what the others will be doing because I may have to alter my play slightly to conform. Basically the time between is for seeing what you did wrong and fixing it AND to hear what other people did wrong and what might be changing, otherwise you may go through half the fight and start shouting for healing or aoe or fire or something simply because you didn't hear a tactic change. This leads to causing panic over TS, ppl focus less, and its worse if it happens when RL is giving instructions, so whether or not you are doing something actively in the wait time, it's worth paying attention because anything said might affect you. That said, if you're positive you know what everyone is doing,, what you are doing and how it all affects you, I say go play, it'll relax your nerves a bit ;)
well, it was a better option then to take a nap like i used to do :P
