Title: Burning Crusade Builds
Post by: TeaLeaf on September 04, 2006, 10:51:48 AM
Provisionally I would probably start with this:

Teaelle BC Build #1 (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/mage/talents.html?0050250000000000000000050520231230303005312510030000000000000000000)

12/46/3
Arc/Fire/Frost

Anyone else?

I've been following up on some theorycrafting for Mages and my above first quick buiuld is likely to not be what I start out with.  There is some fascinating info out there about TBC damage, mana efficiency and what stacks with what.  I'll try to post more when I actually get myhead around it all!

Very nice and regularly updated TBC talent changes explanation on the Bliz forums here (http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=48955665&sid=1&pageNo=1).

Currently thinking of this (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/mage/talents.html?0050550000030000000000050520200230303005302500030000000000000000000) build when the new talents come out.  I'll then load up on Pyromaniac, Molten Fury and Empowered Fireball as my Mage levels.  Given the nerfed Ignite I reckon I can do without Combustion for one level at least and may ignore it all together, we'll have to see how things pan out.

the two apperently most used PvP builds atm in tbc

Frost  (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/mage/talents.html?0030000000000000000000000000000000000000000000535320310235313251551)

 Fire (http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/underdev/burningcrusade/mage/talents.html?0050550300200140330120055023201030003120000000000000000000000000000)

These specs of yours.. Are they the ones you guys will use for end-game PvE/PvP like raiding and such at lvl 70, or is it for grinding/lvling? Because we don't get all 61 points in the patch, still 51 right?
So if you only have the 51 points, would just take 51 points of those specs you've posted?

As I posted above, for me probably yes.  The patch heavily nerfs combustion, so I figure I can do without it for at least one level and then add to points in Pyromaniac, Molten Fury and Empowered Fireball as my Mage levels.  Whether or not COmbustion is still worth having is still to be seen and I will probably amke a decision on it as I level and see the returns from other skill points.  So initially I will take those first 51 points without the points in Pyromaniac, Molten Fury and Empowered Fireball.  Whether this is a good or stupid move is yet to be seen :norty:

Kreg's builds were just examples of what has been very popular PVP builds on the PTR.  He is not planning to use them for PVE raiding!

My new spec untill BC, since we'll still be raiding.

I decided to drop Elemental Precision for more Fire DPS since it got nerfed from 6% to 3%. I also skipped one point in Clearcasting so I could still have Combustion. The 1 point in Master of Elements is just a point filler.

After realising 'resist' is nerfed totally and doesn't work at all, I paid 25G to respec my nerfed free respec and ended up with a 10/41/0 build.

Kreuz you might also wish to change your spec as your first 5 points in Arcane are pointless at the moment as 'resist' does not work.  I put my 10 in Imp Arc Missiles & Arc Conc.

I like the aggro reduction and resist reduce myself since the only time the interrupt thing matters in PvE is on Vaelastrasz. But I'll consider it since there really aren't many fights I use AM on anyway.

I respeced again and ended up with 9/42/0.  Included combustion and dragon's breath.  I like the reduce resistance bits too Kreuz, but they don't work at the moment so the points are currently wasted in those areas.

i´m currently trying out a full arcane spec for fun and pvp:

http://www.wow-europe.com/en/info/basics/talents/mage/talents.html?0500552300230152333125100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
(-took improved arcane missiles instead of arcane focus)

Downside: It´s anything but mana efficient.
Upside    : Some memorable moments in battlegrounds making those
undead rogues trés visible and un-undead.
