Title: new baldric/homer setup
Post by: Stryker on March 27, 2003, 09:38:29 AM
Baldric is now under its own config.

username: baldric
password: thx1138

when fecking with the config files its best we SSH into blackadder using the credentials above.  This MUST also be the case when stopping or starting halfd etc.

I'm now doing the same for homer so in the end the two servers will be in /home/baldric and /home/homer respectivley.

The /usr/local/games/hlds_l folder still existis because several directorys in the baldric/homer cs installs are shared!  They are:

./cstrike/maps
./cstrike/gfx
./cstrike/models
./cstrike/sounds
./cstrike/overviews

I felt this was better as it means we only have to install maps once.  When installing new maps its best to STILL log in as user "root" and STILL install them in the /usr/local/games/hlds_l folder as we did before.

Now guys, whats next?  whats this about an insecure server?  how do I turn on the valve cheat checks?

also in baldric's install I've renamed all the configs with 26016 extentions back to the default config names and changed back all refs I could find for 26016 back to the standard settings.... I mean now we have two seperate installs they may both be standard yes?

I've took the first feared friendly fire casulty of having multiple admins.

spent ages trying to get on baldric... it was saying password invalid.

guess what?  the password was Dead0cA (with a zero) someone had misstyped it!!!!

This was also my problem when trying to implement the database auth system a few days back.... guess what?  turned that back on on baldric and it works fine!!!!  I'm the only player on the database, and I got an extra message like "P2 Confirmed player" when I joined baldric :-)

Can someone else try going on baldric?  it should let you on, however P2 should say something like "uh-oh, I dont know you scum".

If we confirm p2 is working, I need to speak with gandy re his web signup page.  He will need to know where the database is and what the tables/columns are.

YIPPY things are starting to WORK!

now how do we turn on the valve anti-cheat stuff?

I don't know shit about this, but Cheating-Death seems to work fine and spots most of the normal hacks. Have a look at:

http://www.unitedadmins.com/ (http://www.unitedadmins.com/)

QuoteCheating-Death (C-D) is an anti-cheat system which includes both a server and client. Unlike HLGuard, which is a server-side only anti-cheat, C-D offers more protection by blocking the cheats themselves before the player joins the server.

While in optional mode, players are checked for a running C-D client and will rename the player if they don't have C-D currently installed and running. For optimal protection against cheaters, servers can be configured to only allow players running the C-D client.

Unfortunately, the C-D anti-cheat system is incompatible with VAC secured MODs. As of v2.2.0, C-D can work with VAC supported MODs as long as VAC is disabled. Otherwise, C-D will shutdown if VAC is detected.

To turn on VAC:

Look in liblist.gam and there should be a line that says:

secure 1

There should be a liblist.gam for both servers.

BTW: I got onto Baldric OK. I got a message:

connection accepted by P2 plugin o

thanks oldie.  Yeah, it will be real sweet if we can get the plugin on its feet.

Can you pm me your WONID so I may add you to the database please?  then I want you to connect again and tell me what you see.

oldie, I've added "secure 1" to the liblist.gam file for baldric.  I killed the baldric game server so just got to wait for halfd to fire it back up now.

baldric seemed ok and hlsw shows it as secure.... so now I've done the same for homer.

yeah, pitch in with the design thread on "admin discussion".  We need to have as bulletproof as pos design for making sure we know who is on our servers while remaining a practical system to use.

I'm a pretty hot coder but when it comes to practical design I'm a bit hard of thinking :-)
