It's out, but it's 1.3ish Gb and I can't be bothered downloading it. Anybody tried it? The game looks interesting enough.

Game linky (http://www.companyofheroesgame.com/index_en.html?section=&country=United+States&month=9&day=7&year=1978)

Downloading trailer. It looks really nice!

It is called a RTS game - wonder how that plays out. And anything can be destroyed to reshape the battlefield.

Just watched the demo. I am not much into RTS type gaming, but it looks really fun and action-packed! Graphics looks, as far as I can see on the demo, really good.

but like you Maus, 1.3GB is too much to be bothered...

I mostly want to know how my current computer can handle it, but right now I'm looking for a new job and have promised myself a fancy 'puter as a reward when I get one, so hopefully I won't have to wait too long to play it :D

I watched the trailer and it looked good. (apart from soldiers standing still while they were lambasted!) RTS? Is that a 'point and squirt' thing or what? I am in need of a diversion. LFS is great, but the concentration levels are intense. CS:S is good, but for perhaps an hour. Bf2 is great but for an hour also. I looked at the Messiah demo, What to do , what to do? Is it my imagination or are games a bit thin on the ground?

I've looked at the various movies and pondered and cogitated, sat on the loo and thought (chin on fist) some more. In the end I thought 'sod it!' and bought it. £17.99 from Play.com. Bloody PC 'stamping down on prices, hah!' World wanted £39.99! This IS the one isn't it? (http://www.play.com/Games/PC/PROD/3-/705016/-/Product.html?add=705016)

Yup, but if you have a PC World close to you they do it for £14.99 via "collect at store"

Oblivion is one of the best games I've played for some time.  The first few nights I played it I couldn't stop playing (I did when my wife came through at 3:30AM and smacked me on the head ).

Have the stopped now or what? I checked PC World online as soon as I saw this, and they had it for £19.99 internet order, with an 'X' in the collect a store option, as in it looked like it wasn't available on the product.

Keep your eyes on it. It tends to come and go like most of their offers.

Edit: I've just checked PC Worlds store and it's 14.99 with collect at store or free delivery :) Get ordering! NB there are two versions - you want the 14.99. Unfortunately because they use cookies and session IDs I can't post a URL however, go to their home page, type "oblivion" in the search box and it will be one of the first entries in the search results :)

Ok, I'm now on about the 4th or 5th mission in COH and I really like it. The whole game is very polished and the artwork, the cutscenes, missions etc all add to the atmosphere.

The graphics and the sound are excellent - very clear and very detailed, with different animation for the soliders. The sound itself deserves a mention, played through my speakers it sounds like wW2 has landed in my study, and the occasional wise cracks from the soldiers adds to the feeling of immersion.

Graphics etc are all well and good but its the gameplay which makes this game so good and keeps me coming back whenever I can - unlike many other RTS where you can sit back, defend the early game while building up a huge army and then pummelling the AI - that won't work in COH. You have to take ground and defend it to ensure you get supplies, and areas of the map are divided into sections, if the sections become fragmented the supply chain is broken and you stop getting supplies ie points to spend on men, upgrades, buildings etc - so the game rewards you for being aggressive and effectively stops people just defending. Even when you have built up a decent sized force, you never have enough to cover every area of the map and the AI attacks these weaknesses.

The AI also deserves a mention, if they are getting hit hard and losing men, they will retreat and regroup, they will flank you, attack in numbers or just send a small unit to try and take back your back bases - basically they keep you honest which I like.

I've downloaded an update for the game, but I've yet to experience any problems or glitches with the game - though I'm still learning it.

One of the missions I completed was particularly satisfying and really built up the tension - leaving you to defend a city, with 3 bridges providing access to the city and you having only enough AT guns to cover 2 bridges and not enough troops to stop them breaking through - and when they did get past my mines, barbed wire and took out my troops instead of walking straight into some kill zones I'd set up with AT and MG posts, the buggers flanked wide, where I was undefended and took a back flag, so then I have to divert some of my guys covering the bridge to retake the flag - by the time the mission was over, the city was unrecognisable with barely any buildings standing - v.cool! 8)

I bought mine from amazon and you get a warhammer 40k with it for free! Bargain.

See, with that mission I actualy took each anti-tank gun *over* the bridges, along with some MG42 troops, and placed 1 AT and 1 MG point, plus some sandbags, mines, and regular troops, at each of the two capture points across the river. The mines did a good job of preventing any veicles flanking my troops, with the MG42s making short work of any men trying it. This left the AT guns free to take on the tanks attempting a head on attack (silly people).

Great stuff!

Hey Carrot how cool is that you approached the mission in a totally different way - I need to start thinking more laterally - like this :roflmao:

I bouugh this yesterday as I've been thinking about buying it for a while, nearly bought a pre-owned from gamestation for £21 then saw HMV had it for £18. It was the slim version but I know what a Panzer V looks like, thank you.
