You'll soon find, doorman, that the constantly-leveling-with-you enemies dull your enjoyment of the game. There are a couple of mods that rectify this though, so I'll have a quick look to remind myself what they are and pop them here.
edit: this is the main one, that I've found to work well: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=268
I really like the fact you can change things so easily in Oblivion, so many games these days seem to miss things out & your more than likely gonna find a mod kickin about to add whatever you want.
some links that might be usefull....

The best tip I can give is dont go of & do the main quest to soon, I lost all interest in the game the 1st time round once I'd done that, try doing the guild quests - the Dark brotherhood ones good if you fancy being a bit sinister & generally not nice.
Bloody hell! What am I getting into here?
Welcome to Oblivion :P
edit: Oh, be sure to not cheat either. I did that on my first playthrough and it completely ruined everything. Had to find a mod to disable the console to stop myself.
If you play oblivion you eazyly can spend 200 hours in the game, but the problem i found most annoying with the game is the leveling curve, at first it takes you a good 5 arrows to kill a mob, but after a few dozen levels the mobs get so strong they take close to 50. Gave up arround that point...

In a post up there somewhere is a link to a mod that changes that leveling up thingy. I must say, Oblivion is just what I've been looking for. A game to play when there's no-one else around. It's good how it trains you up before setting you off on your perilous way.
It shoulnt be needed to rely on a external modification to play your game
I don't have a problem. The main char I chose was a thief and assasin. The bow is my weapon of choice and I'm a master at it. I can take down most mobs in 3-5 arrows and some are one shotted.
That does depend on the first shot being a sneak x3 damage though. Otherwise it'll take 8-10 arrows.
One of the problems about combat and levelling is that if you take non-combat skilly as primaries (i.e. speechcraft, mercantile, etc) you'll still level at the same rate despite your combat skills not improving as quickly. You might be level X, and facing enemies of level X, but since a bunch of your experience is going toward skills you can't use against those level X enemies, you have a hard time.
On the other hand though, I guess that's realism for you. A warrior is ought to fare better in a fight than a merchant.
I dipped my toe in the murky waters of magic and faeries and didn't like it. I have learnt my lesson, I'll never go near another 'verily, for thou art..' type game again! A barely used copy of Oblivion will be the first prize in a 'last man standing' drinking game at the lan

Rats, i cant make lan due to RL (almost graduating) would have loved a crack at that disk :boxing:
I've heard lots of good about this game so I decided to buy it.

There's also a patch out for Oblivion should anyone have a problem with a quest or so:
http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/updates_patches.htm
I've been playing this again lately and Wednesday-evening decided to do the quest which I thought would end the game...nope...
After finishing the main quest it still gave me the small quests and such so I still haven't finished the game.
For the rest, I don't have any problems killing mobs or such, maybe because I'm a warrior/caster and have quit a few nice weapons which I use depending on the enemy.
really like the game, 9/10 from me.
Been quite a while since I played it (stopped because of some technical problems with the game and my computer not getting along), but the last thing I remember during was trying to find the cure for the damn vampire thing so I could go outside during the day without suffering a slow and agonising death..

The game is also not getting along really well with my computer.
The vampire thing can be cured (it took me an hour to solve it).
First you need to go and see the count that is also a vampire (you first have to get a cure for his wife to solve the vampirisme). He tells you about some sort of witch and where she lives, if you go and see her she'll give you a task which you have to do.
If you're having problems during the day with the vampirisme you should drain blood from the beggars and such at night. Use crawl and when you are near a beggar you can drain his blood (same as the pickpocket thing). If you drain his blood you have resistance against the sun the next day.
Knew the count thing (didn't know the other thing).. Found the old lady and got to the cave where the guy you have to kill is and killed him.. But I never got back, cos then I stopped playing
But Im thinking about starting again as i got a new computer which should be strong enough to run it properly..
One of the problems was that I couldn't load any save-games except for the outsave (going out/in a door and so forth).. Got pretty damn annoying in the long run..
Just retry F5 next time. Sometimes because of Oblivion crashing the F5-save gets corrupted and you need to load the automatic save.
Sounds like the problem.. Ill try it out.. thanks :)
Quote from: Nefertem;172517Sounds like the problem.. Ill try it out.. thanks :)
No problem!
I hope you can copy the savegames to your new comp!
So do I.. Im pretty close to be the arena champion as far as I remember :D
damn you're quick to respond btw

Becoming the champion was pretty easy. Now if I want aanother match I can only select 1, 2 or 3 minotaurs.
Was replying fast because I didn't have alot to do...
Yea when you're there it aint that fun, but you can always go out and find a bear or a mountain lion.. My brother met some and said they were quite hard.. But I think he weren't far in the game at that point so might not be the same for you :)
Nothing to do? hmm.. same here.. sitting at work, means plenty of time on the forum :)
You idle pair!
Friday morning and all you can do is browse the forums! get some work done!
Ooops, just noticed I'm doing the same

Let me know if you have any problems with a quest or such but I must say that the game is pretty easy sometimes.
I'm now trying to get in to the thiefsguild and here I have some more problems with assignments and such. I had to steal a ring which should have been at a location but I couldn't find it. Also now some arrows for the location of people are gone sometimes.
Could be because I've allready finished the main quest.
EDIT because of BB's replying
LOL @ BB, bit of a slow morning here, boss is not at work and I have an easy task this time. Got back a bit to late last night from the pub and now resting a bit.
heh.. Well no worries.. Im being slighly slowed down on my forumskimming, as I just started working on the catagories "Womens underwear" and "Bikini".. Im putting in the products on the homepage.. the pictures kinda gets most of my attention atm, so the forum will have to wait a bit :D
EDIT because of DuVel's reply
Will do.. I can't remember what guilds Im really in besides the one with the murderes or whatever thats called.. Spooky people tracks me down everywhere to say hello and drink some tea

Dataentry.. Im working for a homepage where we have gathered a lot of internet-shops and their products to show people where its cheapest and so on.. Im working in the content department, which means Im the one copying/translating the product desprictions and finds the information needed to set the features and so on.. Usually I work more with electronic stuff such as MP3-players, computers, TVs etc, but today and yesterday I got to work with womens clothing (I chose to start with the underwear and bikini's) :D
EDIT: its not the worlds most exciting job, but the company knows how to throw a party, the people are great and the pay is even better..

( I know this is a old post, but what the heck. )
I tryed getting into the Thieves Guild, But Everytime I got put in jail He didn't come, I just kept losing Skill thingys. ( Points? )
Tech was laughting a bit, And then HE CAME! And Then I had to go . . .
How intresting. ^^
To get in to the Thiefsguild you have to steal a book. Someone else will beat you to it but you need to steal the book from your fellow thief and then return it.
I remember that quest.. Thats when I found out I was becomming a vampire.. Happend because I accidently sucked the life out of a beggar just after I killed the other one xD
any got this one also.?
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion (Knights of the Nine Expansion)??
and is it any good.?:flirty:
I've seen it in the shops but decided not to buy it.
TMF-gamekings said that if people have finished Oblivion-The Elder Scrolls IV they really should get the add-on aswell...:g:
I'll think I'll pass.
not botherd getting it, since eventhough oblivion is a good game i think i have not dont 50%+ of the origional game.. its just too much too many things, and tbh i think the main story line suffers from it. Also, the dynamic leveling of mobs just sucks ...
The dynamic levelling works for me. Maybe you're not levelling correct and that's why they're more difficult to kill.

No it is crap.
I pld it when it came out and i did the story line.
But as soon as you lvl the mobs also lvl with you. It became very boring after a while. The only thing that i really liked was the last few missions from the story line. But the rest was just boring and became very easy.

That's the idea behind the dynamic levelling, otherwise you could kill the same kind of enemy much better.
Ahwell, I enjoyed it alot and would suggest the game to others. It was a 9/10 for me (the reason it didn't get a 10/10: no guns...)
On the graphicpart it was a 11/10 btw.
Depends heavyly on class and spec duvel, i played melee and strugled like CRAZY, i played ranged/stealth and had no problems, i played mage and i didnt even break a sweat.
But after a while, say 25ish level i think even my ranged took 20+ arrows to take down 1 mob, gave up then.
I haven't read the whole thread so this may have been posted but there are several mods that fix NCP levels. Amongst a load of other game tweaks they give each mob a fixed level. So you can meet killer beasts on day one and still see lowly critters at the end. The mod I use also makes animals more lifelike in that they don't automatically attack you on sight, but only if you get too close to them or attack them first. Makes for a more realistic experience.
What's the MOD called Smilo?
yes that would be good as brown bears chasing me for about 10 miles really fecks me off:ranting2:
Smilo, which MOD?
Tuesday and Wednesday I've been playing Oblivion a bit again to finish my remaining quests. I got stuck on 2 quests (really can't get any further).
I got a few quests to keep going on for now but I'm looking for a way to end the 2 quests that I can't get further on.
First quest is where I have to meet someone in a house where he should be hiding but at the green arrow there's no-one.
The second quest is also a place where something should be but there's nothing near the green arrow...:sideways:
Well he is hiding you know.. makes them harder to find when they're hiding.. it usually means they don't wanna be found. :narnar:
Nope, he isn't hiding. I think I killed him days ago in the game so I reckon it's a glitch somehow.
Hmm.. Ye if you killed him, he'll be rather difficult to find..
Talking about killing.. I found a guy in a house (spent a few hours trying to rob houses), and after I killed him I looted his items seperately, and when i came to the gold it didn't disappear.. I could keep looting the gold :eyebrow:

A glitch in your favour.
ye.. Then I could buy a horse instead of using the one I stole.. That kept going towards its stable as soon as you dismounted it, so I had to do what I needed to do fast, so it didn't get away..

There seem to be a few glitches where you can do that.
BTW, the 2 quests are:

Fighters guild:
Quest: Harlun's Watch
Next, Burz sends you to a small settlement called Harlun's watch. Travel
due south untill you reach this and speak to Drarana Thelis.
She'll tell you a story about a lost party, and you're the one to find the lostparty again. Travel to the southeast into the swamps, and then into the swampy cave there.
Inside you'll find a number of trolls to kill, and the body of Eduard Denile. After you find it, your journal get's updated and you're instructed to kill all the trolls in there.
Do so and return to Burz for a promotion to champion.

Thieves guild:
Quest: Taking Care of Lex
This quest involves a lot of running around and sneaking, but its also pretty fun...and we finally get to take care of Lex once and for all! No, we don't plant a knife into his skull, we get to reassign him. As it turns out, Lady Umbranox of Anvil Castle is looking for a new Guard Captain. A letter of recommendation has been sent by the Imperial Watch in the Imperial City, but the Gray Fox wants to make sure Lex gets the job. Anvil is far away, so Lex won't be able to cause havoc in the guild anymore. Whats more, the Gray Fox has extended his protection to the Umbranox family, especially to Lady Umbranox herself. Lex would make a good protector because of his undying dedication and loyalty.

In this quest i think you are looking for a letter of recommendation, to replace it with a forged copy you should have in your possesion. Thiefs guild quests do not involve killing anyone. Been a while though, so i aint sure about this one.
As for the fighters guild, never did that, got hung up on the dynamic leveling.

I know, read my previous reply before that 1. I didn't say anything about actually killing someone. As said, the guy who's going to make the forgery just isn't showing near the nice green marker (I did get a few hints on what to do on a walkthrough because I got stuck but it still ins't working)...

I think I'll head in to the cave and kill everything around it and search everything...
