My nice shiny new PC seems to have a compatability problem between the expensive new graphics card and the expensive new motherboard. TANGO.
Basically, when doing something graphicallyintensive for more than about 10 mins the PC hangs. However, on desktop it'll happily sit there for hours.
It isn't overclocking the CPU, in an effort to get it to work I have my 1.6Ghz running as a 800! Grrrrr
Aside from buying (yet another) new graphics card, does anyone have any suggestions?????
hmmm. mine does that too.
First make sure its the gfx card like you think. If you have an old one run the same thing with it and see if it still crashes. If not, try doing something computationally intensive that doesnt require heavy graphics. Compress a gigabyte of files or something. That'd go some way to ruling out cpu/ram/cpu-heatsink problems.
Otherwise try checking the gfx card isnt overheating. You could also use something like powerstrip to reduce the gfx card clocks to see if its the gfx card having trouble. If it is you should try get a replacement. Apart from that I can only think of bios (changes/updates) to try solve it. Is there any info on the manufacturers sites about your mobo/gfx having known incompatabilities?
cold b a heat problem if it only happens in games etc. try more fans
then try sticking it in a fridge :thumbsup:
What be powerstrip??? I'll try all the rest as well, but all the other no graphical things seem to be Ok, i.e. I installed a whole load of stuff fine, and got about 700MB of stuff of a CD and it was o.k.

powerstrip provides an interface for doing stuff to your graphics. There's a bit where I can change the gfx card clocks, so you could try reducing those and seeing if the crashing still happens.
If the card is under warranty get a replacement :D
I used it to lightly overclock my gf2, but it meant the pc had to restart after a cold boot for somereason due to the gfx card "causing" some sort of error. after the restart it was happy to sit at the overclocked rate. I have no idea whats going on there...

Well, I have put the GFX card transfer rate down to 1x, and turned everything else down to minimum, and as yet I haven't crashed. We shall see, sad as it will be to ran my graphics card this slowly :cry: , at least it appears to work!!!! :?
Similar problem to what i had when i upgraded my gf2 to a gf4, i could play but never for very long. Swapped my PSU for something bigger (400w) and haven't had a crash since.
Damn you're eyes JB that was going to be my suggestion. Sounds like classic "weedy PSU syndrome".
That or you're using old drivers,

Could be that your motherboard doesnt support AGP 2x or 4x very well.

I imagine that the increased heat is a sign of the increased activity which requires increased amounts of energy, which comes from increased electricity consumption ? ? ? ?
now that it works start turning the values up again.
no point running the card under spec, so either try get a replacement or find a better psu. I forgot about power...

That particular mobo has a good rep for working real smooth up to AGPx4. I'm building another system with the same mobo at the moment, should be finished at the weekend so I'll let you know if I run into any problems, especially as it is going to be on a 'weedy 300W PSU' :D
