Don't know if this is of use to anyone:

I always had a problem when I needed to change from speakers to headphones.  Didn't like to keep pulling my comp around and fiddling with connections, so got this instead.

Bargain at a fiver  :o

I'd only leave one item plugged in at a time.... I seem to have the fuzzy memory along the lines of using two items at once IE speakers and headphones affects the impedance and amps/speakers dont like that.  PS your sound card is the amp in this case :-)

I feed my soundcard output into the AUX input of my stereo's amplifier. Then use the headphone socket on that, hence no reaching behind the thing.

I had a microsoft game voice thing, which has a speaker headphone built in. The headphones were rubbish so I bind them and now plug my logitec ones into the game voice pad and all is well.
