Please post here if you intend to bring any hardware, cabling etc to help the LAN. This should provide a definitive list of what is arriving.
Please restrict your post to what you are bringing. Any unnecessary posts will just be deleted - but try to save us the trouble eh?
TL. 8)
If needed the following can be brought along:
- 19" monitor
- 15" TFT monitor
- Full PC (XP1800+ spec plus keyboard, mouse etc)
TL. 8)
that pc is better than the pc i was going to bring for sadako. he might prefer that one
Shuttle XP2200+ and gubbins
17" Mitsubishi monitor if needed
Fraid dont have network gear so thats upta the boffins
cat 5 cable, plus tools to make network patch cables to order :D
can provide cables and switches. At present 2 2924's
How many cables would we need, what lengths and I'll see what I can do.
Right, Seems Gandy is the premier cable guy so if anyone brings any cables just bring a "few just in case" spec not to much of an issue, a few meters.
Benny, your cats would be nice.
You two ok with that arrangment?
yep. now you're all relying on me, I'm gonna forget the crimper!!
scuttles off to tie a knot in something
yeah, if peeps bring a few cables if they have them you may be mostly let off the hook gandy. However your having the bits to make some to spec should we be shy of a few cables will ensure everyone will be netted up.
I have about 10 5m cables that i'll be bringing, am still working on a switch but it should be no problem.

Headphones is good but headset is recommended.
NO SPEEKERS
30ppl with speekers trying to compete against each other would be horrible, u can use headphones and a mic but a headset would be hightly recommended
Yay!!

You certainly can and they are the same...
:D
But...they only sell them online they do not sell them in stores :?
I checked them out first and when i went to a pcworld store i got told that the online store has more stock/items than an actual store
I'm just worried that everyone will laugh at me as I look like a blue Mickey-mouse..
QuoteI'm just worried that everyone will laugh at me as I look like a blue Mickey-mouse..
Oh we'll laugh alright, but you'll have your headphones on and won't hear us
Anyway, the headphones will only make you look the same as the other mice........
TL. 8)
BTW, the picture shown in that url for PC World is of the old model Plantronics. The Argos one shows the new model. I have used both and the current model is better IMO and I bought my set from, wait for it ....... a PC World store.
Just my 2 cents.
TL. 8)
OK I picked up the Audio 90's
I must say I look like a complete knob. If my wife sees me she's going to cry with laughter..
Take a little getting used to but the sound is superb.
QuoteIf needed the following surplus equipment can be brought along:
- 19" monitor
- 15" TFT monitor
- Full PC (XP1800+ spec 256MB PC2100 with cheapo gfx card, ethernet plus keyboard, mouse etc)
- Full PC (XP2000+ spec 512MB PC2700 Corsair with GF3-Ti500, ethernet plus keyboard, mouse etc)
TL. 8)
OK I can now add to that as I think the I'll have the overclocking machine I am building ready by that stage, so I will have my current machine as a spare one. I've edited the list I originally posted to allow FatBob to know what will be available for server use etc.
Sadako has use of my current machine, but the XP1800 is available as a server or player machine.

Yay! That's me! :D
I have an even older set of Plantronics, they look like the type you get free with IBM Via Voice. But I should have a pair of Sennheiser thingys coming along soon, only problem is they have no volume control, must be a German thing
If any of you guys are needing a set of phones with a boom mic, then I got a pair for £15 from ebay recently, Sennheiser, and they sound great.
I could get in touch with the guy who sells them if anyone needs a set, he delivers quickly:

is a current item up for sale but he has loads of them I would guess, and he's a quality seller.
Try these at pc world

If you have much HDD space this will suffice but if not I would have 3 or 4 times as many with me ...

That is very short. I have a 35 m (!) cable if needed ;). Go buy a 15 ft cable. There will be more LANs :D
I am bringing some spare 5m cables with me so you could borrow one of those if needed.

G-man is bringing 4.17 miles of network cable 8O Well OK, that is a small exageration but he is bringing a shed load of stuff with him. But if you have your own LONG cable then this would indeed help.

I have about 35GB of HDD space. I was thinking 10CD's to copy and actually use during the LAN.
I'll pick up a cable tomorrow or Friday.
Ahh good man, a nice list.
/me goes out to buy some headphones. Cheap as chips.
network cables are not totaly essential if u dont have them as a few ppl bring lots with them. i just borrow them for the weekend as i dont have any cable

While I'm at it, if anyone wants to bring me a PC that doesn't crash I'd be grateful, I can use mine, but it may or may not crash, and I will lose my rag, which I suppose will be entertaining..
Incidentally mine is an Ath1400+ with XP...

eh? oh bugger, I thought this was the hairdresser LAN I was going to..
If I can interrupt the above rubber-tonged (sp) conversation and ask a technical question?
I'm bringing a couple of extra PCs (in addition to my own) to the LAN, both of the extra PCs will need to have HL & CS installed so that they can be used as a server or by Sadako. Now does anyone happen to know if I can use my original copy of HL and the mod files, or do I need to have 3 separate licences for HL (and therefore 3 different WONIDs) in order that all three machines play together on the LAN?
Anyone happen to know the answer to this please?
TL. 8)
You can run the HLDS without a license. It is freely available to DL from various sources.
OK I'll download HLDS, but what about the machine that I will be bringing for Sadako? DO I need to have another licence or Sadako, will your HDD that you are bringing be your OS & HL/CS boot disk as well?
TL. 8)
If anyone has HLDS already (4.1.1.1) and the necessary mods, can they post here please so that I can save myself the trouble of trying to get an account somewhere to download the 120MB of files?
Cheers!

I will bring my HL CD and a copy of my HL dir on the HDD that I will have with me to LAN. I think we will manage TL. :D

I have PMd you an HL key that is valid (I don't use it)
I've got hlserver 4111 here too.

I believe you can use a HL keygen (try www.megagames.com (http://www.megagames.com)) so long as all you want is to use it on a LAN, because the WONID's don't get checked online when you connect to a LAN server. I'm pretty sure we did this before when short of key's or when someone had to reinstall (as always happens ;) )
YES, in short :D but get a keygen if it complains about multiple copies using the same key on the LAN
TEALeaf can I have that spare machine as The missus (who is very kindly allowing me a "permit to play") will be needing the computer for the weekend.
Cheers

Would this be g odd time to point out that this thread is in the Topic called Dead LAN Walking which relates to past LANs, and that this particular thread relates to the last LAN, dmw LAN III? 8O
Any discussions on equipment like this need to be in the LAN IV topic that I so carefully set up
