Okay, I might need some help with this.
1)As it will be in Source what would you all recommend? Set up TeamSpeak for each team?
2)Admins: best to put 1 in each team if possible?
3)MR12 - 3 minutes rounds?
4)For finals, is Source TV and such necessary? What do you think?
5)I'll let others play this 1 and will be online for questions during matches and such.
I know TeaLeaf and such sorted it previously, any suggestions and tips are welcome.
Cheers, Pete.
My biggest best advice:
Keep it short. Keep it punctual.
MR12 @ 3 mins makes for a 45 minute match on average. If you plan on playing more than 2 matches then shorten it.
Never under-estimate how stupid people are. They will need cajoling onto the right server and you will need to be running HLSW to monitor the lot and chase them up.
You will need a queue of I suggest 25% of the members signed up to play. Yes, that many will not turn up and you will need those reserves to step in and make up the numbers at very short notice. Make sure the SLs get their team member's phone numbers to chase them!
Source TV is good for the finals, people might want to watch and I believe it is already set up on the server.
I would play if you can, but make sure your team have an Admin in each one so that there will always be someone to start the match & rcon everything!
Teamspeak - yes you have to have a TS server for this imo as the comms on CSS are just too awful to contend with - the SOG TS server is available if you want. I suggest a main channel, plus one for each squad - they can be named beforehand and passworded to help if needed.
Finally, the competition will take longer than you think. Over-estimate the time it will take when planning the competition and then try to minimise the time expected.
TL.
Cheers m8!
I allready thought of a few things you suggested.
I might change the roundtimes still but I put up MR12 on purpose.
I'm not sure what cajoling means but I get what you mean. I haven't been using HLSW before, is it easy to set up and use? Am I allowed to use it as an admin?
On the numbers that I expect, offcourse it will be depending on the date and time but I expect dMw'ers and SoG'gers. I added the dMw and SoG tags just to show that both are playing.
When the SL's have been determined I will make sure that all the SL's should have a way of communicating between them and their team (MSN/X-fire/ICQ/IRC). I'm intending to be on MSN/X-fire/IRC with IRC as the biggest communicationmethod.

1) Yes definitely. VC in CSS sucks. Make sure that CTs and Ts have assigned channels for each server BEFORE the tournament starts. Post a thread and spam it everyday a week in advance until the tourney. ;)
2) Yes. We have done so in the other tournaments since the first Christmas tourney (which I take credit for)
3) MR12 is good. 3 minutes is ok but no more. 2 min would do as well if we have many teams.
4) Source TV should be on for the finals. It is always good fun to look at the finals. I suggest that we have a STV channel in TS as well.
5) Could be a wise move as it is you first tournament as organiser.

HLSW is dead easy to set up. Use it! www.hlsw.net (http://www.hlsw.net)
Yes you are allowed to use it as an admin.

Consider having a TS channel called Admins ... saves you time writing. Every admin reports in to that channel prior to match start.
There arn't alot of people replying to the datesuggestions and these are what I got so far:
-24th, my own suggestion, Sunday before Christmas.
-Christmasevening (I don't really prefer this, especially for people with families);
-Boxing day (Not sure but is this the first day after christmas, the 27th?)
-27 or 28th;
If the admins have a suggestion, please let me know.
After that I'll make a poll.
I'd rather not play on the evening of the 24th or anytime the 25th. Boxing day sounds good though. I'm happy to help out with the Admin stuff and getting the SourceTV running etc.

I wasn't thinking of the evening of the 24th. More like the afternoon and maybe the beginning of the evening (12.00-18.00 or so).
As said, when is boxing day? Is that the 27th?
Boxing day is the 26th
Another question about HLSW, I can add bots and such through this program aswell yes?
For the settings of this, I've installed at my work so I can try it out from here, how do I connect to our publicserver?

enter 87.240.138.21:27019 in the IP box (use port 27015 for MH instead of Boomer)
Click ONCE on the server that appears in the list and put the RCON pw in the rcon box - remember to tick HIDE so no-one else can see it. As you are at work suggest you do not save RCON PW in program.
After that you can chat from the chat tab and carry out console commands from the (wait for it) console tab!
If you have a proxy server/firewall at work then it won't work unless the correct ports are open.
Another question:
How do I make a poll now on the forum?
I wanted to make a poll in the Tournamentsection about the date for the ChristmessTournament but I can't get it to work with the "new" forum
-24 December;
-Christmas-Evening
-26 December
-27 December
-28 December
-None of the above, place suggestion...
Forget the last option.
Use the includ epoll option at the botton of the new post section. The following page gives you the options. We need a date RealSoonNow(TM)

In Scandinavian countries Christmas is celibrated on the 24th ...

I know, that's why I wanted to post it yesterday allready. Ahwell, it's up now.
And Mats, we all know Scandinavians are weirdos.
1 example: Djunglefrall...
I rest my case...
So after suggestions: MR12, 2 minutes rounds.
VoiceComms will be TeamSpeak (I was thinking every team his own channel, a bit better then depending on CT or T-team Mats). Maybe an SquadLeaders-VC-channel aswell should there be any problems.
Starting times for the tournament? What do you guys think of 12.00 UKtime?

Sounds good but I would prefer a 1PM start time if it's not too much trouble.
Agreed, avoid starting at a 'food' time as parents will force littluns to the table and away from the keyboard. If we're on 2 min rounds, make sure the maps are not too big.
TL.
Okay, 13.00 UKtime it is.
If Whitey can have a look again about the reply concerning the map and so.
Any suggestions on how to start a 5 teams tourney?

It's going to be difficult. You either need to draw two teams into a qualifier round to knock one out (not very nice as that team only gets one match), you play a league system with the winner being the one with the most wins (will need 10 matches to decide if your not having a final) or you change the teams around so that it's an even number of teams.
Anyone else have any ideas? :g:
Well there are two servers so how about a round-robin thingy, Everyone gets to play everyone else with 3 points for a win and 1 for a draw. The top two play for first and second and the next two play for third and fourth. The others are the losers and can be mocked endlessly.
Each team plays five matches except for the losers.
Might take a long while to complete though? :g:

2 min rounds @ MR9 would be fairly quick wouldn't it?
Anymore ideas?
Quote from: BlueBall;1686372 min rounds @ MR9 would be fairly quick wouldn't it?
That would take 4 hours 40 minutes with only 4 minutes between matches and no delays, so probably more like 5 hours+
That's fine with me as I've nothing else planned :flirty:

Ah, my mistake. maybe I meant MR5 then.
First suggestion, try to make 4 teams. It solves a lot of problems and cuts it down to 3 matches only in the round robin and makes a final more possible. Drop the idea of a losers final imo, nobody will want a 4th hour in a chair when they know they have lost.
If we stick with 5 teams then round robin is the only way forward imo (knocking someone out is unacceptable), but given the number of potential games to be played I would drop the second round, i.e. just get each team to play each other (4 matches total). If you award 2 points for a win, 1 for a draw etc, but then as a tie breaker use something like the kill score in each match of the lowest ranked member of each team (this avoids an elite player's score skewing the tie break in their favour and brings it down to the level the team plays at). If the lowest scoring player has a score of say 3-9 in each match then the total tie break score for that team after 4 matches would be 9 (highest tie break score would win). This system is unlikley to result in a tie at the end of this but if it is tied then we could always play a 2 round final on something like de_deagle, one each way and repeat until someone gets a 2 round lead.
5 teams with 2 min MR9 and just the round robin stage would mean 4 matches x 2 mins x 9 rounds x 2 for CT & T= 144 mins, plus 10 mins between rounds (x3) = 174 mins. This assumes no knife round (just tell them in advance who will go CT first) and is just about manageable.
4 teams on the same basis gives 3 x 2 x 9 x 2 = 108 + 20 = 128 mins. Much more manageable.
HTH.
I'm not sure how it would be only 4 matches  If each team plays every other team once then it is 10 matches.
1v2 1v3 1v4 1v5
2v3 2v4 2v5
3v4 3v5
4v5
Damn, I suck at maths...
I'll have a look...
Quote from: Whitey;168721I'm not sure how it would be only 4 matches
4 matches = 4 matches per team, not 4 matches total.
TL.
Quote5 teams with 2 min MR9 and just the round robin stage would mean 4 matches x 2 mins x 9 rounds x 2 for CT & T= 144 mins, plus 10 mins between rounds (x3) = 174 mins.
As we have 2 server's it would be 10 matches x 2 mins x 9 rounds x 2 for CT & T= 360 mins, plus 10 minutes between rounds (x4) = 400 mins / 2 (servers) = 200 minutes + Final? = 246 minutes.
As TL says, you would be better with 4 teams. If that's not an option then have 6 teams split into two groups of three with a final to decide.
I made 4 teams out of it
So from TL's notes:
This assumes no knife round (just tell them in advance who will go CT first) and is just about manageable.--->Got that now yeah...
4 teams on the same basis gives 3 matches x 2mins x 9 rounds x 2 = 108 + 20 = 128 mins. Much more manageable--->Agreed
Conclusion: MR 9, 2 min rounds, map: office and a 10 minute break between matches?
And for finals deciding 1st and 2nd place and 3rd and 4th place maybe that other map Whitey typed about?
EDIT:
1 match: 13.00 duration: 1 match x 2 minutes rounds x 9 rounds (MR9) x 2 (CT-T, T-CT)= 36 minutes per total match right?
1st match starts 13.00 ends +/- 13.45
2nd match starts +/- 13.50
3rd match starts +/- 14.45

Ehrm, isn't that why I added the x2 in the end?
But am I right about the matchtimes and such? As I want to define the times for each match.
I still have to set up a few things, the TS-channels, can we use the BF2-channels
A for team 1
B for team 2
C for team 3
D for team 4???
And maybe use the dMw-admin-TS-channel for the SquadLeaders and such?
Also can there be mIRC-channels or shall we stick to TeamSpeak only?
Which servers can be used?
Sounds good. BF2 channels for each team and use the CS protected channel for the Admins. I would use IRC as a backup in case there are TS issues.
We should use Boomer and Meathook.
Just a thought - as the tournament is tomorrow - has anyone announced the TIME for the tournament yet?

It's in this thread (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=17774) although it could be more "in your face".

Plus I tryed contacting you on MSN and hoped for an answer concerning the matchtimes and such I gave allready.
So if you could check my previous reply here...
i agree with the white lad, if you want to start at 13 UK, you want to ask them in big letters somewhere to join TS half a hour before that or so.
Paul, can I have atleast a reply please?
I'm out and about most of the time Pete - and I am logged in on MSN whether or not I am actually in my house! I'm sure what you posted is fine though.
I have relatives arriving at lunchtime for the afternoon (which I found out about last night ) so I may not be around on MSN or otherwise. Hope things go well.
