Title: Wireless Networks
Post by: A Twig on April 14, 2003, 12:01:21 PM
I have given up and gone back to a network card with a cable it everything now works fantastically, and my pings are lower!!!!! What more do I want?
It is so satisfying hammering the shite out of the *TANGOING* card!!!

Yeah never use wireless for gaming, the latency can spoil things, by that I mean you may get a good ping, but since the ping only measures the round trip delay of the IP ICMP packet, and not the fact that your data is transmitted and received through the air, then you get further out of sync than you would do with a normal cable ethernet connection.

Take satelite transmission for example. If you switch your Sky TV to BBC1 and also watch BBC1 on a terristrial TV, you'll see the Sky tv is a second or so behind the normal TV transmission. That's what your counter strike game has to deal with if you use wireless, not quite as bad latency but enough to spoil the game.

Whoohoooo, I'm a mighty cheese event  :D  my life is complete.
