Title: Rate settings

This was mentioned in another post but after a comment about some of our rates in our last match, have a look at this rates guide (http://wheelchairjihad.com/boards/index.php?topic=5.0) and it should hopefully help you set the best rates for your connection.

will have a try at some point, but when I was trying to increase the rates over my old ones (which are approx double valves defaut rates...) last night I either got choke or loss or both. From reading that I reckon I can increase rate and updaterate, but my cmdrate can't go up due to being limited by my (guessed) average framerate.

I've been doing some more digging and as long as your rates are above the default and your cmdrate and updaterate are similar then there should be no cause for another clan to accuse you of rate hacking.  Following the guide, should help with your hit registration though.  Valve are trying to make the rates process easier by cutting down on the variables involved and this will be release at some point in the future :eyebrow:

BB - I also found out that valve are looking to include the zBlock functionality in a future release, it can't come soon enough.

Here is the last big thread about rate settings:

http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=3184&highlight=rates

The second post has a link to a rate calculator I put together a while back. Please NB that the calculator will give you a starting point for playing about with rates. Additionally, cs:s option for FPS_max (or whatever its called) defaults to 300fps not 72 fps like in the old days. If you set fps_max in cs:s you are usually reducing your FPS to something moremanageable and it may give you smoother gameply.

I have updated my rates calculation spreadsheet to take into account new info from links provided by Whitey. You can get the updated version at:

http://www.sutherlandweb.pwp.blueyon...dmw/rates2.xls (http://www.sutherlandweb.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/dmw/rates2.xls)

You will need Excel to open it; Excel 97 or newer.

The yellow boxes are for you to enter your details. The red boxes are what the spreadsheet reckons you should set.

NB that Max RATE value is now 30000 not 25000 and that there is no limit on cl_updaterate (it used to be 100)
