A cousin of mine asked me to help him buy some new RAM chips for his computer, and now I'm not the biggest expert in the hardware section, so I thought I'd just ask you guys, just to avoid doing something stupid
It's not really important that I get some particular good RAM or anything, just that it works when I put it into his computer. I know he has some old Dell Dimension with 4 RAM slots, think he has 2x256 in it now.
He wants to have another 512, so would it be fine with just adding a 512 chip, or would it be better with two more 256? And do they have to be of the same kind of those that were there from before? Or is it enough that they all are DDR RAM (if that's what's in there from before)?
I haven't even looked at the computer yet, so this is just me shooting some questions out in the blue - hope I made at least some sense :)
Try:

and use the "memory advisor tool" which should give you all the info you need. As to adding or replacing it will depend on number of existing memory slots and how much they are already filled.
Thanks BB
