Well, it's the time of year again when I sit back and think "why the heck am I going to do all that work", so I guess I need to ask for your help again! So here's the list of jobs you can volunteer for:
LAN Network Admin - who can turn up on Friday morning and who will be responsible for making sure the switches are there, connected and configured properly for max speed and the cables all working.
Gandalf
LAN Server Admin - who will be responsible for setting up and configuring the servers before the LAN and then for running the required games at the appropriate times.
Pre-Lan:
At Lan: Ninja_Freak, Sheepy
Post Lan:
LAN Plug, Wiring and Electrical Distribution Control Monitor
BigFatCat who is bringing along UPS's, APC's, PDU's and a whole bunch of other stuff (which PEN has no idea of what they are!)
LAN Secretary - the one responsible for all of those nice things, like a piece of card on your desk with your name, IP and gateway; making sure things run smoothly and getting pictures all weekend for the website afterwards! Basically doing the real work whilst he LAN MC takes all the glory.
PEN
LAN Photographer - the one responsible for getting pictures all weekend and posting them on the website afterwards!
LAN Merchandiser - To organise LAN Momentos and other promotional goodies
Sheepy
LAN Security - responsible for the room keys on those late overnight gaming sessions
Ninja_Freak
LAN Competition & Gaming Committee - to set the agenda for the weekend, decide which games and competitions are to be played, timetable them, sort the prizes and liaise with the server admins to ensure the games are set up and config'd ready for the LAN.
GhostMjr
Sheepy
(one more person please !)
LAN MC - the person who will be the vocal host for the long weekend! Shouting at people about rules for the matches, chasing form the bar to their tables for the next competition round, making sure everyone has heard when dinner is etc. Oh yeah and presenting the awards!
Ninja_Freak
LAN VINTNER - the person who complains the loudest about the (fairly rudimentary) wine list available at the Cormwell. Also responsible for the consumption of epic quantities of said wine and arguing over the quality of the 'a la carte' menu. Usually provides free 'at the table' entertainment on Friday night. Most often found in a comfy chair with drink in hand. Least often found sober.
Doorman
If you think you can contribute your time and expertise to LAN XI then please send PENFOLD a PM or reply below stating which bit or bits you feel you are interested in and we'll appoint people once we have an idea of the range of candidates.
Thank you.
TL / PEN.
C'mon fellas !!!!
I can't believe that no one else has responded as yet offering their services for these important roles.
Do YOU regularly attend the LAN and have yet to make a contribution to its success?
Step up to the plate and be counted ..
Please sign up below or by PM!

Still thinking about going or not to be honoust.
Saving a bit for my own place.
But then again, because of work and such I'm also not going on wintersport this year. :g:
Alright you mugs. I'll take the MC role unless any of you want to step up to the challenge.
I've been speaking to Ghost Mjr and I would like to suggest that he steps up for gaming committee. (Ghost, get your butt in here! :narnar: ) We should still have at least two more for this role.
There's plenty of talented folks here so get off your arse's and put your name down. Remember this is your community and you can help to make the LAN even better that last time. As a group we're lucky enough to have the bandwidth donated to us and believe me if we ever lose it, you'll wish you've done something to help out the greater cause.

And I'll help you drink it :D
You can stick me down for network if you like.
Thanks guys for once again volunteering to do these roles...
Instead of just sitting back and watching the same people volunteer their services LAN after LAN to make the event fun for you - step up, take a ticket and take a turn!

Pssst!
It's an APC UPS as I can't get hold of an LAV 25, though it'd be easier to park and I could get more stuff in the back.

We need to sort out an admin to configure the servers during and before the lan so they are all ready to go. They also need to be in contact with the games commitee i.e. Sheepeh and I. This role needs to be filled asap.

I've been speaking to Oldy and I'm going to step in the fray for this one (doG help us all).
PM me with any game details so I can work them out with Oldy in advance if necessary.
It's about time we gave Oldy a break and let him get to his drinking properly.

Ninja,
If ur wanting a bit of help ill try to help u out,
Ill just need a 10 min tutorial from someone exactly what the commands are so i can write them down! this is at the event BTW
Quote from: TeaLeaf;173021LAN Photographer - the one responsible for getting pictures all weekend and posting them on the website afterwards!
I assume that some people will bring their cameras.
I want to see what I've missed. :byebye:
ill help with the lan game committe if you still need a person like it says on the front page or any other job required
and as ill be sober the whole weekend so that could be a good thing for me to help as well.....
Thanks for the offer Sulky.
Offers of help are always appreciated. I'll introduce you to Sheepy and Ghost_Mjr at the LAN.
I don't think there's much to physically *do* at the LAN as most of the work is pre-lan server setup, however it is appreciated.
But now you've volunteered (and are staying sober) perhaps I can call on you to help me collect some of the £15 LAN weekend fees I need to get from everyone ? :norty:
Cheers
PEN
no worries m8
Sulky u are now elected asthe person to draw the names out of the hat for the teams in the events.
As you are staying sober and as you are in the services you should b resonably fit and be able to out run anyone that doesn't like the team selection you make.

I think you'll remember Sheepy from the day you'll meet him...
*Thinks back to his first LAN and Sheepy saying: Dude, I didn't think you'd be that tall...Can't remember the rest, something as in: What do they feed you over there...The next words I do remember: Want a beer?

Please continue making fun on the short dude Blunt - more stoopwavels for the rest of us than :norty:
Soz to still be offtopic but BoB, does that mean you and me and a few more people from across the pond will try and get over there again as there are no people from abroad this time? :yahoo:
Yes indeed - I will do everything that is in my power to get there in October :D
I've already started looking at flight prices, so as soon as I get a date I'll be ready to book. At that time of the year I won't have any exam dates to worry about either, so I don't see any reason I won't show up. There's also an airline company that has opened a new route directly from Trondheim to Stanstead - I'll probably have to go over there Thursday evening, but that shouldn't be a problem - I'll be able to help set things up than :)
Looking forward to it already!
Excellent news then! I'm definatly trying to go the OctoberLAN one aswell as I might not have a holiday this year (depending on an offer of Sheepy).
Also for me it's trying to get a plane a.s.a.p.
From Stansted there's a few people that should be able to pick you up but if you do that I suggets you ask if there would be anyone living near Stansted to pick you up then...Might be worth checking for me aswell if this might be cheaper then...:g:
Soz guys, back to you guys for this LAN, we're really sorry we can't make it...

For Bob, but... Yeah! Will be there in October. Can't be there this time, have to attend a cultural congress this weekend to be allowed to be exchanged for a job abroad when I am done. Sheesh...
Looking forward to them waffles Duv. You never seem to bring enough
This morning I had to laugh and my boss was like: ***?
Seems there's a good business in them siropwafels. I might have to consider starting a shippingbusiness for them as I probably would have:
-English;
-Danish;
-Norwegian;
-Italian.
people who like them alot.
Could my forumthingy be changed to SiropwafelDealer instead of Defeasible Interest?
You bring waffels to the LANs?
Ill have to come then :g:
