Title: zBlock 3.0.0 (Final) Released
Post by: DuVeL on January 17, 2007, 09:53:03 AM
More info here:

A reminder that as zBlock is back it is now required again on your CS: Source match servers for EnemyDown based matches by default, if you now wish to play without zBlock you must specify so in your Match Notes

Installed on Meathook

Server restarted

I connected no probs WITHOUT having to add any silly commands to my config (I made sure that the config had the relevant line commented out)

Looks like we have a winner! If it goes OK over next few days/friday night then we should stick it on Boomer too.

It got posted on ED 3 days back.

I was checking regularly but I gave up waiting, it's been weeks since the steam update borked the last version.   :sideways:

It helps level out the playing field if you know the opposition are less likely to be using cheats.

I guess you mean invalid DirectX level. It forces people to play in DX9 or higher as some of the existing hacks exploit DX7 and DX8 modes.

Whitey? This gonna be a problem for others too?

I've just tested and it's fine for me.  I would think most people will be running DirectX 9 and if not, I can't think of any reason for them not too upgrade their version of DirectX to 9.  Even if the card doesn't support all of the features of DirectX 9, it should still run OK but without the extra effects.

Please post if you think differently.

They may have an older card that only runs DX8. Why should they have to upgrade just to play a game that they can play perfectly well without the expense of a DX9 card. Think we may need to find out how many of our members have graphics cards that don't support DX9

What I was getting at is that DirectX 8 cards work with DirectX 9, they just don't make use of all the new features. I have an old DirectX 7 card that runs DirectX 9 games but it just doesn't look as good (or have as high a frame rate).  I don't think we'll be leaving anyone out unless thay just don't want to upgrade DirectX for some strange reason.

DirectX 8 is a subset of DX9. If you have a card that only supports DX8 then it is not running DX9.

if you have a DX 9 card I believe that you can force steam into running under DX8. This opens up opportunities for h4xing.

The minimum's actually 8.1 guys, anything below that is stopped.

But isn't zBlock only checking what version of DirectX is running on your system and not what your card supports? :g:

I've done lots of reading and not found a definitive answer. It looks like older cards could have a drop in frame rate going from DirectX 8 to 9 though, but this shouldn't be an issue if you upgrade to 8.1.

I doubt many people could play source on a card that only supports DirectX 7, so this may not be an issue.  Time for a poll in the main forum or do we just put up a post saying "Make sure your DirectX level is 8.1 or above"?

Correct mr Whitey sir, also released yesterday at 10pm was a new version of zblock which supports dx level 8.0 and a few bug fixes.

Post in the CSs forums on ED about it.

BK is running DirectX 9.0c according to dxdiag and he's not getting the DirectX error now but he is getting the one about cl_restrict_server.  I've asked him to type in the console command to see if that works.

I've removed zBlock until we decide on a way forward. Whether the way forward is to forget zBlock, ask everyone who visits MH to add the necessary line to their configs (like that'll work yeah!) or do we setup a separate game server with zBlock so that MH and Boomer are unaffected by this crap!

BK got in as well, after entering the command.

I'm not sure of the best way forward here but we need zBlock for matches on ED.
Can you put it back on Meathook for the match on Sunday?
The seperate match server sounds ideal but seems overkill for the amount that Meathook gets used.

Well I'm a great one for keeping things simple and the hardware has LOADS of horsepower so I've setup Baldric as a CSS Match Server with zBlock in it. We now have 3 CS:S Servers:

Meathook (Private, Custom Maps) - 87.240.138.21:27015
Baldric (Matches, Standard Maps) - 87.240.138.21:27017 - zBlock running
Boomer (Public, Standard maps) - 87.240.138.21:27019

NB, If you are going onto the match server you MUST have:

cl_restrict_server_commands 0

in EITHER your config.cfg, your autoexec.cfg or your userconfig.cfg. Wherever  it is, it is best set BEFORE you connect to the server.

You might need to update ED pages with new IP details of baldric.

You can use console for it: start op Source, before the game press: ~
Then type: cl_restrict_server_commands 0

but if its in your configs then you never have to worry about it again (until Valve change things :sideways:)
