Title: Feral gear
Post by: Sandrion on January 26, 2007, 01:30:51 PM
I just compiled a list of feral stuff you can't miss out on if you decide this is going to be your end-game spec. Most of this stuff is easy to get (mainly quest rewards). I've split it up in DPS (cat) and tank (bear) gear. Some quest offer more then one good item, but the ones in the list below are 'the best' ones to pick as reward. I hope this is of use to anyone.

DPS gear:

Head: Netherstorm Eyepatch (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29979), Helm of the Claw (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28182) and Headdress of the Sleeper (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31145) (BoE world drop, has hybrid stats).
Shoulder: Cleansed Fel Pauldrons (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30369). Best shoulders I've seen, way better then T4 and T5 even, gives 127AP in cat!
Chest: Vindicator's Light Vest (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30379) and Chestguard of the Talon (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31285&locale=enUS;source=live) (BoE world drop).
Wrist: Ruuan Weald Wristguards (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31793).
Glove: Gloves of the Nether-Stalker (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=30003), Gloves of Ferocity (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31126) (BoE level 60 world drop, seen them drop twice so far) and Windslayer Wraps (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29507) (epic crafted, best feral gloves in game; they're rather expensive, but I just had to mention those :dribble: ).
Waist: Kirin'Var Scout's Belt (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29772).
Legs: Shattrath Leggings (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30257) and Clefthoof Hide Leggings (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31544).
Boots: Supple Leather Boots (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31532) and Studded Green Anklewraps (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28074).
Back: Nomad's Woven Cloak (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28031).
Weapon: Staff of Natural Fury (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31334) (BoE epic world drop, dunno how rare it is).
Finger: Slayer's Mark of the Redemption (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31077) and Band of Anguish (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30973), but you won't be able to take the Idol of the Avenger (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31025) when you pick this as quest reward.
Neck: Natasha's Choker (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=31695). Natasha's Pack Collar (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31694) is another option that you can get as reward from the same quest, but the +hit makes the other one better DPS wise.
Tinket: Core of Ar'kelos (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29776), Uniting Charm (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=25633), Bladefist's Breadth (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28041) and Ancient Draenei War Talisman (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31617).

Tank gear:

Head: Helm of the Claw (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28182) and Cobrascale Hood (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29502) (Crafted epic; again, this will be expensive, but look at those stats :dribble: ).
Shoulder: Cleansed Fel Pauldrons (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30369), these shoulders are fantastic for everything :norty: .
Chest: Jerkin of the Untamed Spirit (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=28051) and Nickwinkle's Harness Experiment (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31443).
Wrist: Umberhowl's Collar (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30944).
Glove: Verdant Gloves (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30943).
Waist: Manimal's Cinch (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30942).
Legs: X-52 Pilot's Leggings (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30014) and Nomad's Leggings (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29116) vendor item (Consortium revered). Ash Tempered Legguards (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30941) are the best by far, but those are from a Horde only quest :ranting2: .
Boots: Supple Leather Boots (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31532).
Back: Cloak of the Valiant Defender (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29777).
Weapon: Braxxis' Staff of Slumber (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=31186) BoE world drop (got one cheap (100g) of the AH a couple of days ago) and Staff of Beasts (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=25761) is nice for tanking non-melee bosses.
Finger: None, they're all pretty crappy. Do some dungeon runs and get Mok'Nathal Clan Ring (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=24151) or Iron Band of the Unbreakable (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=27436) instead.
Neck: Mark of the Ravenguard (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=29336).
Tinket:  Dabiri's Enigma (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30300) and Figurine - Dawnstone Crab (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=24125) (crafted).

Yep, that cloak is absolutely fantastic.

I wouldn't pick the resiliance trinket though. The crit damage reduction part of that stat is rather pointless and becomes even more pointless once you have more resiliance and +def, since you either won't be critted at all or the chances of that are really low. I'd go for something with +def or dodge% instead.

The list above mainly contains quest rewards and craftables. Maybe I'll write a new one with the 'best' 5 man feral drops later on. I didn't really look at those yet, since finding a lvl 70 group is pretty hard atm and I won't be able to get them anytime soon anyway :narnar: .

After talking to Vargen the other nite id like to stress the importance for a druid to save the above mentioned items that are the rewards of quests. They include some of the best armored leather items currently in game and losing them will cost you 1000's of armor end game.

Thanks Bastet :)

I haven't had time to go through that list of all the equipment yet, but I will take a thorough look at it when I get some spare time, so I can make a note on where the different things drop 'n stuff, so I don't accidentally vendor it or something...

i manged to missplace the jerkin, and that cost me 1000 armor in bear form (or about 1,5% reduction)

Oh man that sucks  . It's nearly as bad as picking the wrong UBRS quest reward (like I did back in my restro/balance days :sideways: ), the Mark of Tyranny (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=13966&locale=enUS;source=live) is still the best tanking trinket at level 70.

Btw, it is possible to get Ash Tempered Legguards (http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?source=live;witem=30941) as Alliance, counterairy to what I stated earlier. Allakhazam just wrongfully listed the quest as horde only. It starts at some dude that's standing just inside the gates of Wildhammer keep in Shadowmoon Valley. I got them yesterday; I think I'm going to put some Clefthide Leg Armor (http://wow.allakhazam.com/item.html?witem=29534) on it and they'll be perfect.

hmm i think i fatfingerd those too then  at least i can still get the mark and the smoking heart, as those 2 are the only trinkets that give armor, and theres just a tad bit more choise on legs/chests. replaced both w/ +45 stamina items though.

why you do think that...? its 1-2 % dodge.. you can get 3% dodge easy from the elementium thread cloak and stick a 1% dodge ench on it (chromaggus)

Well it's not the dodge that you're missing. It's the armor, in bear form that trinket gives you more then 1K armor. Because armor from items scales so well with bear form, it's still the best tanking trinket for a Druid. They didn't introduce any new armor trinkets in TBC unfortunately.

3% dodge is still better then 1k armor @ the bears armor lvl

lets say you have 15-17k armor, another 1k will only increase it by a very small % (ide say less then 1%) so if that is the case, then 3% dodge > 1k armor

and remember, armor is reduction, dodge is a total miss, spell or melee (no damage suffered)

parry is the same but melee only

I thought dodge was only for melee attacks and resistances for spells !

hmm, afaik ive dodged spells... unless i was being attacked at the same moment.. hmm

anyways the previous argument stays 3% dodge > 1k armor @that lvl

Quote from: Gorion;176948anyways the previous argument stays 3% dodge > 1k armor @that lvl

Naturally. But there are no trinkets with a high dodge % for as far as I know. The stormpike rank 6 trinket has 2% @ 60 and I'm wearing that, mark of tyranny would still be slightly better though with it's 1089 armor and 1% dodge @ 60.

How much armor you already have doesn't have much influence on it's usefullness though, since it will always extend you lifetime by a fixed amount (yes I have prove of that; I'll post it if anyone is interested).

On the other hand, you're probably correct from a warrior's point of view. Warrior tanking gear != Druid tanking gear. We have a different purpose and different mechanics. Correct me if I'm wrong, but warrior tanking is more avoidance based then mitigation based, meaning you favor +def, dodge and parry more overall then armor by definition. So yeah, if I was a warrior then I'd probably look for some trinkets with a high amount of dodge or +def.

And Akall is correct, you can't dodge spells only melee attacks; although you can dodge melee attacks that deal magic damage (like special attacks and the melee damage of certain elementals). Spells can only miss or be either paritially or fully resisted.

Btw, if you know any TBC trinkets with a high amount of dodge let me know. I'd love to get my hands on some :flirty: .

Quote from: Sandrion;176960Spells can only miss or be either paritially or fully resisted.

Spells can only be resisted... Resistances and resilience give a chance to resist normal spells and critical spells, while on the other hand penetration give chance to avoid resilience and resistances of the targets.

I think.... :g:

Nope, spells can miss. What use would +spell hit have if it always hitted anyway :narnar: ?

You can read how it works exactly on this site: http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Magical_resistance.

Like you said penetration reduces your target's resistance. But resiliance only reduces critical chance and damage, there is no real 'counter' stat for this.

From the page you linked :

"Mage spells are 'resisted'. All hunter effects miss."

I'm pretty sure spells (in the sense of Starfire, Moonifre, Wrath and Insect Swarm) can't miss the target... they are resisted by targets!! :D

You missed the part 'miss chance': :narnar:

Quote from: WoWWikiWhen an offensive spell is cast, the target has two separate chances to resist the attack.
First, there is a check based purely on the level difference between the caster and the target. This is referred to as the spell miss chance, and is affected by any +spell hit% equipment that the caster has. Talents which reduce enemies' chance to resist spells, such as Arcane Focus (http://www.wowwiki.com/Arcane_Focus), are also taken into account by this check.
If the target is significantly higher level, the spell will usually fail completely. If the target is significantly lower level, the spell will very rarely fail. This first check is why spell casting players have such a hard time landing spells consistently on all monsters a few levels higher. In PvP combat, it is much less of a factor. A level 10 Mage can very often land polymorph on a level 60 player.
Although miss chance can be reduced with equipment or talents, it cannot be reduced below 1%[1] (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/resistances.html). What this means is that for a level 60 player in PvP, equipment "to hit" bonus beyond +3% doesn’t help. However, in endgame raiding content, as much as +16% "to hit" bonus will help since bosses are generally considered level 63 for these purposes.

But I have to admit, that the line between 'miss' and 'resist' is pretty blurry.
