Title: UK Pings
Post by: vobler on February 02, 2007, 08:07:48 PM
Seems to me in Norway that all UK LFS servers have increased pings lately.

I did a trace for sombody to look at. Hopefully it can be fixed.

All other EU servers are in the 70ms range. My local servers are in the 30-40 range. But all UK servers are in the 300 ms range. Dead Men Racing used to be 70ms too.

Seems like that investigation is finished. Pings are below 60ms (in game) here now sunday morning.

Same with the STCC servers. Good work someone!

Thanks!

Up in the 400ms range again now. Too bad.

We picked up on this on Saturday and moved some traffic around. If you are still experiencing issues could you send the latest tracert through to us directly at support @ hi-velocity.net

Thanks

I will, thanks. I will also send it to Telenor Support. Because I am now testing from my line at work (not Telenor) and here it is in the 40ms range. Seems like it may be on my (Telenor) side.

Thanks Vobler

Out of interest can you please post a trace from your office connection just so that I can compare the traffic routes?

Cheers

Antho,

if it helps I'm on BY Cable and if I trace to the server when there is a prob then I see problems starting at this address:

host-87-240-128-2.hi-velocity.net

and usually in enta.net just before it (their router seems to be easily overloaded)

Don't know if this will help or hinder but thought I'd pass it on anyway

Thanks guys

The Telenor issue seemed to be between their network and ours on the last hop, however as it was one single hop it is very puzzling! The traffic coming from Telia comes to us in the manner expected. I will see what I can find out about the Telenor network now

I got an answer from Telenor now. They point out these lines in the trace and says that it is not in their system, as their last point is answering fast.

6 22 ms 22 ms 22 ms ti0001b300-ge0-1-0.ti.telenor.net [146.172.105.10]
7 407 ms 407 ms 403 ms host-87-240-128-2.hi-velocity.net [87.240.128.2]

Telenor suggest that Hi Velocitys first point is too heavily loaded at peak times.
Funny, I never have seen pings in the 100-200 ms range.

FWIW, pings from DK, which goes via Holland, are now better than ever. I used to be in the early 50's (and have had periods with problems) but my ping is not typically 39-43ms :D (no more 21 jumps!)

Just to clearify, this means that you also see raised pings periodically?

If that is the case, it must be a hi-velocity.net problem.

I will get this looked into a bit more, however we recently added a Gig of capacity so it would surprise me!

It was way up in the 700ms tonight. Your support dept. got the traces.

Well somebody did.
I'm not sure who fixed it (Telenor or Hi-Vel), but last night the route to hi-velocity changed and I have very good pings now (evening).

So a big thank you to those who fixed it.

The route was the old one last night with the same slow ping time. But this time Telenor confirms hardware failure in London at one of their sub contractors. It will be fixed ASAP as it affects much traffic.
