Title: Announcement to the members
Post by: Bob on February 06, 2007, 10:56:31 AM
Even though we haven't made any plans or major decisions yet, should we perhaps just make a post in the announcement forum, just to "calm" the members and let them know that things are (hopefully) starting to settle, and that we are working on a plan?

I picture just a small thing like this:
Quote from: The OfficersDear members of SOG

As you all have noticed during the last turbulent week, there has been some ground-shaking events in the guild: many more of our members have left, and SOG was nearly disbanded.

Gorion has taken on the role as Guild Master, and he has chosen the following to be his officers: Bob, Othbarty, Sheperdbook, Spiritus and Theoline. We are all veteran members of this guild, and we have a great desire to bring SOG back to what it once were: a small guild with tight bonds between it's members, where the foundation of the guild is built on friendship, mutual respect, and the fun and enjoyment of the game.

/* See coment on the following section below */
Bastet and Ragnarh still remain in the guild, and even though they will not take on the role as full officers, they will as experienced leaders of the guild be a resource which we will use as mentors for guidance and help when we run into problems and challenges.

This announcement is just to assure you that things are starting to happen. We have nothing else to say at the moment than that we slowly start working on a plan on how to re-build the guild. Most of us are new to the challenges of organizing and leading a guild, so we ask for your patience while we try to get stuff together. We will also encourage you to let us know if you have any thoughts, ideas or wishes about how things should be.

Best regards
The Officers
Comment for the third paragraph: I thought we should just say something about this, since Ragnarh and Bastet still remain with Mashal ranks in the guild list. Should something also be said about Guildeebany (TL) and Tanales' alts (if he has been asked if he wants to stay in the guild with them), since they also have that rank?

Are there anything else that parhaps should be added as well?

I will provide an alt for the SOG guild as suggested elsewhere by Gorion.  The character guildybankee is soon to be deleted (when I remember to do it!) so probably not worth using that name!

you forgot to add Lucian mate.

will be asking tanales when i see him online.

i think we should name it: Phase 1 - The Core

re, Phase

2, should be the process of kicking all the alts, to see what mains, whos active and whos not and to be 100% sure the alts of ppl that left are removed

3,  rank name change to non militaristic, there were suggestions about a "tree" tree. ie: the oak, leaves, roots branches etc. or the normal ones

I agree that we need to post a message and I agree with the content of the above :).

All makes sense, not so sure about plant analogy, part of the reason for the military approach is that it is a very clear ranking order. I think the plant analogy would suffer from being vague.

You could try civil ranking orders (Presidents, Secretaries, Treasurers and etc).
Try different trees (ie Redwood being the grandest and working your way down).
Try the animal kingdom (which I think would be great fun!) so the Lion King at the top, then add tigers, orangutans, wilder beast, chickens, wolves, panthers (boy, we'd have to sit down and work out a logical order though).
Try birds (Eagles, Hawks, Pigeons and etc).
Try a feudal hierarchy (King, Arch Duke, Duke, Earl, Viscount, Baron for example).

Anyways I think we could have a lot of fun on this lol...

Sorry Lucian - you know I still love you mate :huggy:
Think I forgot cause I looked at the list of moderators in this forum, and his name ain't there. Don't see Spiritus' name there either...

@ Phase 2: sounds like a good way to do it. Just make sure all current members are notified in advance. Perhaps also prepare a template that can be pasted in an in-game mail to those kicked (I know it will take some time with many to kick, but I can take care of that part)?

To be honest, I think we should keep it simple, and also stick with ranks that folks are familiar with. The "standard" Guild Master, Officer, Veteran, Member, and Initiate work very well if you ask me (with the various alt ranks where appropriate, and also a spare rank Raid Member for when that will be needed).

We are also the Silver Oak Guardians, and that is something that sounds like at least some kind of military structure. In addition, those ranks I've listed above can hardly be described as military - only Officer gets a bit close, but that I don't think hurt at all.

Also, as Shep stated, the plant analogy could seem a bit vague, perhaps even impertinent :g:

Below is also a new draft for the announcement:
Mainly, I've just added Lucian's name in the officer list, and also TL among the "mentors"

If you can hurry up and get an answer from Tanales Gorion, we should be able to get this out to the members through the announcement forum pretty fast :)

I just thought of another thing as well:

Should we consider making a new post about SOG under the Guilds on Aszune (http://aszune.xsa.ch/forum_topics.asp?FID=7) section in the Aszune Realm Forum (http://aszune.xsa.ch/default.asp)?
The old SOG thread (http://aszune.xsa.ch/forum_posts.asp?TID=1960&PN=3) is kinda outdated, so I thought I could just PM one of the moderators to lock it so that we could start out with a fresh new one? Nothing else than some brief information on that SOG has survived through TBC, and now seems to be settling a bit under the new management, and also just some words on what our goals (rebuild, solid structure, aiming at some raiding in a distant future, no applicants atm etc) for the time to come are and so on.

Just thought it could be a nice idea, just to clear out any rumors on what are going on in SOG (I don't know if such a thing even exists) :)

I think that would be wise. IT also allows you to note your interest in priests and shaman when the time comes.

Just a comment about the kicking of alts - a lot of time is spent on alts, so kicking them from Guild might be a negative thing as those members who play several toons will find themselves without the friendly banter oif gchat and feel a bit left out.  Alts of ex-members sure, kick, but be careful if you plan to kick member alts.  If I misread that bit then I apologise.

Now I can only guess what Gorion was thinking, but I would assume this is what he as referred to earlier as 'shaking the tree'. Kicking all alts are an easy way to get rid of all possible dead wood.
Of course alts of those that still are members of the guild will be invited back in again as soon as they are online and ask for it, and that is why I suggested to just send an in-game mail to all characters that get kicked explaining the situation (since probably many wouldn't get the message if we only posted it on the forums).

I will also make contact with one of the administrators of the Aszune forum, just to ask 'em to lock the old SOG thread, in anticipation of us making a new thread.

Thats actually a good way to get information out to all the users. So if TL or the other forum admins can be bothered to send that information on our behalf, that would save us some ingame mailing :)

If you provide a text then I can mass mail all registered SOG users with your wording.  Of course this will not catch those still not registered on the forums or those whose email address here on these forums is out of date.  Perhaps a reminder in GMOTD for a few days beforehand would help that.

My only comment on this is KEEP IT SIMPLE.  Rank systems just need to do what they say on the tin. :)

A new SOG thread on Aszune might be nice.  Advertise clearly however that recruitment is closed for the forseeable future.

Good idea on the post, though I'm a zenophobic and don't visit the Aszune forums :narnar:

About kicking alts, some of you may recall the old days when Theo did his massive kicking sessions, now as far as I recall it wasn't too popular, though I personally agreed with it. I'd propose that if an alt is below say lvl15 and hasn't been on for a couple of months then that is fair play. But say if it were a lvl60 alt or ex-main then I would disagree.

Generally I'd avoid this one for the next week or so as we don't really want to antagonise anyone just yet. It's a zero-line policy so it's always going to upset someone (whether we want that person who is easily offended is another issue).

I got a reply from Nerthal, and the old SOG thread (http://aszune.xsa.ch/forum_posts.asp?TID=1960&PN=1&TPN=12) is now locked.

Here is a draft for a new post we could put on the Aszune forum:
Quote from: Silver Oak Guardians - TBC and beyondAs many other guilds on Aszune (and other servers), Silver Oak Guardians have been through quite a turbulent time before and in the month following the release of TBC. We have had many members leaving to other (new) guilds, and we were also at a point where we didn't even know if SOG was gonna survive at all.

Gorion has now taken on the role as GM, and together with him as officers are Lucian, Othbarty, Sheperdbook, Spiritus, Theonline and myself. We are all veteran members of the guild (from the time when Theodwyn was GM), so we all know what the core values of the guild was, and this is what we will focus on when re-building SOG.

Our main focus now is to make a strong and solid foundation for the guild. This will be based on friendship, mutual respect among the members, and the fun and enjoyment of the game. We will not focus at any end-game raiding at the moment, but it will of course be in our mind as enough of our members hit level 70.

Until we feel the guild has settled with the members we have, we will not take any applications at all. We can still mention, that the classes it at the time looks like we're gonna be short on, are shamans, priests and paladins, so for those of you that have such a character, you might wanna keep an eye out on the SOG Forum (http://www.silveroakguardians.org/), and also here at the Aszune forum.

See you all in Outland :)

PS: If you wanna look back on what we've done in the past, the old SOG thread (http://aszune.xsa.ch/forum_posts.asp?TID=1960&PN=1&TPN=12) is still around.
