rumours abound that a new patch is in the works that may see the end of stats within BF2 amongst many other things... Possible release in March
this is only rumour found on the official EA BF2 forums but many rumours turn into reality just like the one about England being a crap football team
The statpart is a part on why people keep playing BF2, I'm speaking from experience...
So it would be stupid but then again, EA is stupid...
from what I have read the reason may be that BF2142 take up has'nt been great and to encourage migration to 2142 stats on BF2 will be pulled, it also says that earlier booster packs may be released gratis....

In all seriousness, there is work going on behind the scenes on BF2 at the moment, but the decisions on that front aren't finalised yet so there is no announcement imminent. As soon as there is news to deliver it will be released worldwide at the same time.
