As the title might imply (is that how you spell it?), I really think you guys (the admins obviously) should specify the rules more on that thing you get when joining the server or typing "motd", because we get a lot of people that claim they don't know the rules when they get slayed. Then, when they DO read the rules, they (the rules) don't really say much about the whole stay-near-sites/hostages-or-get-stricken-by-lightning rule if you know what I mean.
Putting some examples on it would maybe be a good idea too, like the most obvious things on well known maps, like double doors and bridge on aztec and such things, that might just help us get things straight for those persons without having to type that much. It's really not that hard for people to just do what we tell them to, but if we get the whole boundaries thing somewhere outside a chatbox, they might start taking it more seriously, because people have that kind of mentality that rules are more important when they are on a list of sorts. I know it's stupid, but it's true :sideways:

Well the MOTD (Message of The Day) and "that thing you get when you join" is the one and same. I agree that more clear information could be added but the BIG problem is that people join and do NOT read it. Irrespective of what is written on it. But the following lines could be added for clarity in the MOTD:
- On a DE map CTs must defend the bombsites, Ts must attack.
- On a CS map Ts must guard the hostages, CTs must attack.
- Do not go to far away from your objective. If you do you will risk kick and ban. This is a example of CTs allowed movement on Dust2[insert Dust2 image from this thread http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4491]
- Fraghunting will result in kick then ban.
- Camping on the defending team is allowed.
- English is the language used on this server.
- Respect your fellow players and earn respect in return.
- Have fun!
I'll edit MOTD this weekend. Thanks Mats
 good work!

Hmmm, (may sound stupid), could a box saying "i agree to these rules" or "i accept the rules of this server" have to be ticked in order for users to log onto the server? Or is this too difficult really?:g: This could "force" people to have a glance over the rules. Plus they would then have no excuse to say, "oh i didn't know".

MotD edited on Boomer. Now reads:
QuoteYou are playing CS:Source with Dead Men Walking. Your skill level is unimportant. It's your attitude that counts.
You *must* work with your team to complete the objective.
* On a DE map CTs must defend the bombsites, Ts must attack.
* On a CS map Ts must guard the hostages, CTs must attack.
* Do not go to far away from your objective. If you do you will risk kick and ban.
* Fraghunting will result in kick then ban.
* "Camping" on the DEFENDING team is allowed.
* ENGLISH is the language used on this server.
* RESPECT your fellow players and earn respect in return.
Have fun and enjoy your time with the Dead Men.

If I may come up with a suggestion. How about changing the "camping is allowed.." to something more direct? I.e. not just allowed, but in the fact the way to play, sort of... If that made any sense.

Good point. Any suggestions on the best terminology people?

Maybe calling it "positioning yourself in a tactically beneficial way" might work.:g:
I thought these two lines said it
QuoteOn a DE map CTs must defend the bombsites, Ts must attack.
* On a CS map Ts must guard the hostages, CTs must attack.
[pedant] * Do not go
too far away from your objective.[/pedant]

Oops. good spot :)
MotD now reads:

You *must* work with your team to complete the objective.
* On a DE map CTs must defend the bombsites, Ts must attack.
* On a CS map Ts must guard the hostages, CTs must attack.
* As a DEFENDER do not go too far away from your objective. If you do you will risk kick and ban.
* Fraghunting will result in kick then ban.
* The DEFENDING team is not "camping" if they stay near objective; it is the expected tactic of DEFENCE in TCS!
* ENGLISH is the language used on this server.

Looks good :D
Hope everyone understands them, and works by them.
They won't, most won't even read them!
I've just had a session on Boomer and when I started asking people to stay close to the site, I got the same response as normal, even after asking them to read the motd. A few slays soon points people in the correct direction though.

It was worth a try :sideways:
At least we can still just keep slaying those idots. . .

I have lost count how many times I've been explaining peeps on Boomer what tcs is. And then they go "but you're camping!" and I would say "yes, to defend the site. tactical gameplay, right?" and the answer would usually be "yeah... but you're camping!"

Firstly, I have added the following automatic message to the server adverts run by mani plugin:
{GREEN}Type motd to read server rules. Not playing by these rules WILL lead to getting slayed/kicked/banned!
Secondly, I'm suprised nobody picked up on my editing of DuVeL's post
on the defending team camping is positively encouraged! On the attacking team it isn't :)

Yup I ahve to say that I saw BK using it last night so in the best traditions of idea stealing I borrowed it and "improved" on it so that he doesn't have to keep pressing the key he has bound to the message.
See BK we think of everything for you :)
