Title: RSS website and the rest
Post by: Benny on March 01, 2007, 12:08:09 PM
Just my bi annual questions about the front page and what we can do to improve it?

It seems fairly stagnant when we look at it and I appreciate it's hard to keep it up to date, but with a few people contributing  there is no reason why we couldn't. It would make the community more than just a forum and games.

That said I nosed about yahoo pipes and came up with a boring;
http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/sOblvufH2xG9IW0Pr8cPhQ/ (http://pipes.yahoo.com/pipes/sOblvufH2xG9IW0Pr8cPhQ/run?_render=rss)

but it's a doddle to use and I'm sure we could have some kind of game news feed on the front.

Any feedback?

The front which ED refers to, when referring to dMw is quite good. Same looks as the new site and up to date. How about using that?

Do you use this:

as the website homepage? Still a work in progress (tbh I think they are still waiting for me to get of my bum and provide some text for the BF2 area).

However, it is a lot more dynamic that the old page :)

Just back from my bi-annual look at the front page.

I use a bookmark to "view new posts (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/search.php?do=getdaily)" as my way in:flirty:

:withstupid:

over at www.downgraded.net (http://www.downgraded.net) we relay the "news" section of the forum to the front page of the website and limit who can post there obvisously (though with the size of our forum that's just about anyone...). Good way to keep the front page content ticking over I think. Any way to link it to the forum really... recent posts section, popular threads section, that sort of thing :flirty:

p.s. the description of [dg] being a CS, bf1942, and WoW clan is a bit misleading as the only one of those in which [dg] are active (I assume) is WoW which I do not play :P

QuotedMw's official WoW Guild, the Silver Oak Guardians, defeat Ragnaros
LOL, how up to date :D

But ye, it looks better, like the colours and stuff abit better on that page too.

And the fact that is integrated with the forum makes it easy to post events based on rank.

Not true actually. The guys have been using it as the ED homepage for a while.

As the content could quite literally have been *anything* and half the links are incomplete and do not work that's not a particularly great one to use. I rest my case.

We had to have a website with CS:Source content and the list of Source players seperate from others.  That's the reason we had to use the new one.  We did discuss it at the time and that's why Gandy sorted out the rosta on the new site.
