Three things regarding avatars that have been gently puzzling me;

Tealeaf - who is that intriguing be-fezzed man?
Stryker - who is that cool and dangerous looking dude?
Tutonic - why is (what appears to be) Pavarotti about to cheerfully blow someone away?
