I haven't tried it but there is at least one similar app.
http://freelook.org/

Remember that TrackIR uses 3 points not only one. So trackir can se the difference between head rotation and sideways tilt. I think these webcam apps dont.
I now love my trackir. The first days I got car sick, and crashed alot when i moved my head, but now its exellent.

So if you already have a webcam you're in business for 10 bucks! Sounds worth a punt to me (not being a pauper an' all) :)
P.S. You only really need left/right look anyway.

I tried a few of those applications for regular webcams before getting my TrackIR (thanks again blunt for helping out :D) and I must say that they need quite a lot of adjustment and the perfect light conditions and so on. Finally, they are not as responsive as TrackIR, meaning that you will have some lag.

A little tip for you TrackIR users - If you have noticed that there is a tiny, tiny lag using the TrackIR, make sure you put the trackir process in windows at real time priority. Normally real time is over the top, since it would impact f.i. the game you are playing but it really makes it respond well. Haven't tried in LFS though. Is there 6DOF in LFS now?

I finally got the DFP I was promised some months ago so I just might!

6DOF would be really cool :flirty:

Tried it. Does exactly what it says on the tin. You can currently register it for $9.95 which is about £5 :)

I took a look at that and it seems like a good deal. Having to sort out a bracket and LEDs seems a bit of a faff. (to me that is :) )
