Title: TCS Boundaries marked
Post by: Whitey on March 05, 2007, 11:10:24 PM
I was speaking to Thulsa_Doom at work today and he said "Wouldn't it be good if the TCS boundaries could be marked on the map?".  This got me thinking and that's always a bad thing!
Anyway, Mani has a feature to allow you to advertise on any area of the map using a spray, so 4 hours later I have been round all of the maps and marked them as can bee seen on the following examples.
I'd like to implement this on Boomer but wanted some feedback from you first.

The required files are in the attached with a readme.  These are only needed on the server.

Excellent, I'm sure that even new visitors to the server can't help but ask what they are all about.

And a server message of "Please observe the 'no entry' signs!".

Double that mans wages.

This is very good Whitey. I thought of a similar idea myself. My idea was to post an overview with boundaries in the MOTD that is updated to the map changed to. However, I think this is much better. If you have any questions regarding the boundaries on old maps or on newer do not hesitate to ask. I invented most of them and also made the colourful overviews (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4491) back in the days.

Once again. Very well done! Implement immediately!!!

Ps. On Aztec, CTs are allowed on the bridge all the way to T side but not allowed to enter their bridge room i.e. equally far as in water. ;)

He was saying that looking at all those signs on a night when it is just dMw on the server would be a PITA - I would agree.

So do I, this if for Boomer only and once we get enough dMw people on the server, we can move to Meathook.  The first couple of attempts at a spray were not as "in your face" but then I remembered the type of people we can get on Boomer, so I think these will work better.

It would take about 30 seconds to bring back the original PCS map limit posts that we made all those years ago (to which Sadako added pictures) if we wish it.  We have them all in one of the forum archive topics.  If they are of use or wanted temporarily for guidance or reference then shout.

I think between the maps Sadako did and the map adverts, we should be OK.  I'll have a go at doing all the new Source maps in the way I did Losttemple on colourful overviews (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4491).

I think that is a superb idea :worshippy:

Kudos for actually doing it !

I guess they're 'fixed' options? In an ideal world it would be lovely to be able to turn them off or on - so you could enable them for the first couple of rounds of a map then remove them as the pubbies get the right idea.... Is that possible or no (I have no idea)?

Well done you.

On my test server, the very first time I joined I didn't see the decals until the map changed.  After that it shows every time you join, even straight after a server restart.  I'm not sure if it will be the same on Boomer but even if it is, it will still cut down on the admins work as it's just the initial few rounds for a new player that will be an issue.

All you have to do (seemingly) is type "retry" in console (NB untested)

Did you see the extra decals being loaded onto your PC the first time you connected.  It would have said it in the normal connection box.
(I'm at work so can't do much from here )

You could check in your source directory but I can't remember the full path, It was under cstrike/materials/mani_somethingorother and should have the files no_entry_ct.v?? or no_entry_t.v?? along with the mani_logo.v??.

Let me know if you have them.

which is the correct folder structure for boomer (the other servers are at C:\Servers\cssource and C:\Servers\cssource3

It looks like either the cvar to turn on map adverts isn't set or the decal hasn't installed properly.

For the first option the cvar "mani_map_adverts" should be set to 1.

To test the second option can someone please point at a wall and type ma_decal no_entry_t and post the results, it should spray the "No Entry" sign.

That could be either....

The decals are not in the   C:\Servers\cssource2\cstrike\materials\decals\custom\mani_admin_plugin directory.

The decallist.txt or mapadverts.txt has not been updated in the cfg\mani_config.

Can't think of anything else just now.

both files were updated. I have checked and the only thing I could see that was possibly worth trying was in the decallist.txt file where you have the following entries:

   "mani_logo"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/mani_logo"
    "no_entry_ct"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct"
    "no_entry_t"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_t"

I have changed them to read:

   "mani_logo"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/mani_logo.vmt"
    "no_entry_ct"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct.vmt"

Server was then restarted and map changed.

Yup, there are 7 files in that folder in total.

Out of interest, once you are home,  can you please delete your local cache of the files and rejoin your home server to see if they show up?
Can you then delete them again and try boomer?

Hang on just noticed something. The decacllist.txt file is inconsistent.

"no_entry_ct"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct.vmt"

against:

        "no_entry_ct.vmt"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct.vmt"

Note that the first line starts with "decals" and the second line starts "materials/decals"

Whitey can you check once home please that this is correct format? I would have thought they would both have had to start "materials/decals"

"decallist.txt"
{
// List decal textures to be available for custom effects via ma_effect
// and for the map adverts.
    //
// The first label is the name you use within the ma_effect command and ma_decal to reference
// the decal texture, the second is the location of the decal itself
// You can view the decals from the Valve Hammer Editor.

    "lambda"    "decals/lambdaspray_2a"
    "mani_logo"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/mani_logo"
    "no_entry_ct"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct"
    "no_entry_t"    "decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_t"

    "downloads"
    {
// Add your auto downloads here, each player will be forced
// to download this content. Try to make your own decal filenames to
// be unique as possible as your download will NOT overwrite an
// existing file with the same name.
        //

        "mani_logo.vmt"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/mani_logo.vmt"
        "mani_logo.vtf"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/mani_logo.vtf"
        "no_entry_ct.vmt"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct.vmt"
        "no_entry_ct.vtf"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_ct.vtf"
        "no_entry_t.vmt"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_t.vmt"
        "no_entry_t.vtf"    "materials/decals/custom/mani_admin_plugin/no_entry_t.vtf"
    }
}

That's the same for me and it's working OK:g:

BB can you make sure there is no space in custom.  The stuff you've posted all has a space and it should be one word.

There is no space in custom, it is the forum software being unable to cope with long strings.

Checked that one uploads and downloads both permitted. :(

We have also:

Checked Whitey's server for other instances of the files but they only reside in the same location as on boomer
Tried putting the word "materials" at the front of the file references.
Tried putting the files themselves in the HL2 folder as well as the cstrike folder
Compared Whiteys config files with server config files.
Compared Server Mani version with Whitey's Mani version
Tried playing UT2003 instead but we didn't see the decals there either :(

OK I cleaned out the "download" cache on boomer last night removing over 11000 files which came to about 0.5 Gb of data.

I retsarted the server this morning so if someone would like to test we can find out if I need to continue banging my head on Whitey. Sorry I mean on a wall :)

I've got a bit further. I've proven that the server knows about the new decals, as when you enter "ma_decal " on a decal that doesn't exist it gives an error, however, when you do it with no_entry_ct or no_entry_t the command works but you don't see the decal as it's not on your client.
The problem is that the server doesn't push the decals during the loading screen but I still can't see why! :eyebrow:

Maybe time to play around more with the decallist.txt download section....

This suggests updating Mani but it works on my home install with the slightly earlier version of Mani.  I'm still looking....
http://forums.srcds.com/viewtopic/3600

Just noticed that the version I am running at home is the latest N version available for download.
It looks like they've pulled the version we're running on Boomer.  There have been quite a few updates since so I'm going to try the upgrades on my install.

UPDATE If weapon restrictions do not work on your linux server, please re-download the Beta P binaries as I re-uploaded the zip files with an update.

This is mostly a release to fix bugs

Fixed weapon restriction giving wrong messages
Fixed weapon restrictions being reset when first player joins map
Fixed map adverts not working
Fixed translation error 00002 on startup
Fixed spawnpoints not working
Fixed downloads.txt not working
Fixed chattriggers not working
Fixed reserved slots not working (sadly redirect will no longer function)
Fixed anti-rejoin slaying when only 1 player on server
Fixed anti-rejoin slaying when mp_restartgame is used
Fixed timeleft not being accurate when mp_restartgame is used
Fixed saved scores not working
Fixed warmup round issues
Fixed @pmess not working
Fixed server crash on HL2DM (new gametypes.txt file)
Looks like we need to upgrade Mani to get it working, I'm doing mine now.

I'm giving up for the night as the patch to Beta P is causing a fatal error when I start my server :ranting2::frusty::ranting:

One minor comment the map i checked (DE_Port) could do w/ another tag on the fence by bomb site A, the no entry for CT sign is on the concrete wall and will not be seen if you jump down from A to T spawn via the Coils of wire.

You have no idea how relieved I am that it's working!!   (although BB will)

If anyone thinks a sign would be good in a certain location (like Bastet's example above), go to where you want the spray and in the console type ma_decal no_entry_ctThe x/y/z coordinates will be shown, please copy it into a PM or email to me and I'll check it out and get it added.

Be careful with this (keep it to yourself), as we don't want the signs all over the map :flirty:

I think it could be good, as people could hop on to check the maps work for them.  It could also encourage people to move over to Meathook for some different maps.

I would still like the "standard" rotation for Fridays session (although I'd like to see some of the new custom maps included and malitia).
