Is it a simple thing in XP to be able to
1 - run an app,
2- put in the username/pass,
3- select an option from the file menu,
4- then populate some fields in that,
5 - which final gives an output which can be excelified with another button press.
Almost like running a macro from excel, but into a bespoke app.
From there I'd like to be able to make the form input (part 4), variable based on the date you run it.
Possible?
if you are comfortable with Visual basic then you'll be comfortable with scripting. Some good resources at http://labmice.techtarget.com/scripting/default.htm
Thanks BB, I'm not, but I'll have a go. I don't think what I'm trying to do is 'difficult', but I'm not a coder.....PERL annoys me, PASCAL made me change career.
I use wintask; http://www.wintask.com/
It's not cheap but it's very, very powerful. With functions, arrays and while loops, etc.
I use it for loads of stuff here, primarily re-linking database fields into our company brochures (as our art guys seem to love deleting the original links! :ranting2: )
'Windows Scripting Host' is pretty powerful, as you can pull in the standard windows GUI's and its free.
I had a book on it somewhere.
I see its one of the options linked in BB's post.
