I can download it, but I can't find the file, it says that it needs to know what program created it.. And frankly, I don't know.. ( This is for several of the maps. )

Bikini is a problem for me too with FPS in the 20's and choke as high as 70-odd.
It's impossible for me to play, which is a shame as I like the map:sad:

We need to remove Bikini from the custom map cycle as it caused issues for most people.

I think it can cause lag on some systems but I may have picked that up wrong.

I think BB posted somewhere that the hostages still get stuck in the sewer and such, might have been in the adminarea where he posted that...
On an earlier page of this thread is was mentioned that in Miami there is a sewer problem, just like it USED to be with militia pre 1.6 version.
But anyhow, we can put it to test tonight on the MH :ph34r: (or even on Boomer - it's an official map) with some :help2: from the uber-admins
it was miami I tested and the hossies are absolutely useless if you go via sewers so that map is a none starter. We can try militia but it would be a good idea for some of the guys with low spec PCs to try it to make sure it is playable. Just because it runs fine on my uber beast doesn't mean that Sadako will be able to handle such high resolutions with his 8800 GTX :)
I play it with a 6600gt, at 1024*800. Takes a little time to load, but looks fine afterwards.

Drugbust is indeed a good fun map, either CT can try and snipe a T or two before entering, or they can rush (somewhat resembles fy maps :-) ). Yday played it both as T and as CT, and I suggest T stay insde house/roof to make it fair, and not get out of house to the yard and so.

Now I have had a quick look at them.
de_wanda - wow ... H U G E map with great textures and L O T S of ways to go. I think this one requires 20 players. I think it would be great fun in TCS for 30+ player. I think definitely we should try this one. It looks really great.
de_nightfever - has good potential. Much close quarter combat and not a scout map. Many routes and levels. Worth a try.
de_volaris2 (remake of de_volare) - Some changes have been made but the concept of the map is the same. Textures are much nicer and it has become more straight forward than the original. I think it needs to be played with 10+ for complete evaluation.
de_velvet_east - no. This map will not work in TCS. I also get the feeling that the developer of this map really hasn't put much thought into the map.
de_survivor_j (remake of old survivor) - I suspect this is not a final version. If it is then it is really poor looking. Other than that it is identical to old survivor. Maybe worth to check around if there is a newer version somewhere.
de_crookcounty - Large map that will turn into a snipe fest. Way too open. Don't think it would work in TCS.
de_ignorance - Large map with many routes. The map reminds you of de_dust. The bombspots are in the "same" place but more routes and a bit larger. Worth a try. Requires 14+ ppl though.

cs_apartments - could work with smaller numbers. However, the map seems very easy to defend but it is also grenade heaven. Needs 5vs5 for a good evalutation.
cs_assaultvilla_v3 - This looks very promising. Many routes and access points. Still the hostages are in bottleneck rooms.
cs_estate_od - estate with fresher look and some smaller changes. Think they have made it more difficult for CT with all the closed windows. Estate is estate. If played smart by T it is a one sided map.
cs_dracula - would work as a deathmatch map but in TCS it is very limited as you only have one access point to the hostage and it is dead easy to cover for the Ts.
cs_italy_reloaded - Different layout and more routes. Looks good and there are better approaches to the hostages for CT (less exposed). In TCS however, most of the map would never be used. Maybe that doesn't matter?
Don't you think nightfever is too big a map for 10-20 players? :g:

Can I suggest that we do not use Friday night to test the maps as I can almost guarantee that not everyone will have them and this usually results in the number of people on the server rapidly diminishing which spoils a good evening.
What about agreeing to have a "new map night" with plenty publicity to ensure as many as poss get the maps and I'll create a custom map cycle for MH where we will only play new maps for an evening?

We played it late in the evening and I checked everyone on the server at the time had the map before changing. :)

All of the new maps are keepers. I'll try and come up with a new cycle to include the new maps and get rid of some that don't work as well (eg. code_name _otter)

WinRAR works just like Winzip. You unpack the files to the location of your choice. The rar-file itself is not readable by steam.
On most the maps you need to extract the files into your /counterstrike source folder. I believe some just go straight into the maps folder however. It's best to check after it's been extracted to see where they are and cut and paste if needed.

Un rar the files to anywhere just note where it is putting them. Once they are unpacked you can copy them to the right place. I always unzip/unrar to a temp directory as you can never guarantee what the folder structure will be like.

The rar file for vertigo contains an informational file
downloadinfo.txt, and assultvilla contains another informational file
ReadMeMap.rtf.In addition,
both archives has the folder structure
cstrike\maps\, and it's in that
maps folder you find the actual map files. It is made this way so you can extract the files directly to your counter-strike source folder, and everything will end up the right place.
So as Delan said, check the sub-folders :flirty:

not any kind of word files - might be that for some strange reason they are set to open in word though... The files for vertigo and assultvilla are rar-archives (contrary to the zip-archives, which most of the other map packs are). But it is really strange if it is only these two you have problems with, as also contra and otter are rar-archives.
But, however: firstly, you shouldn't choose to download the files when you click the link - it's a good habit to save it somewhere on your disk, and afterwards run it. To extract a rar-archive, you will need a program such as winrar (which you can download from here (http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm)). After you've installed that program, you will be able to extract files from rar-archives in the same manner as from zip-archives...

you are right bob. i also had problems with otter, but i found it on another css server. i tryed to join the server, and i automatically downloaded these maps from the server.
anyway thank you for the link, i will try it out

Just tried playing this map, its pretty amazing to be honest! I would love to play this on the 'hook, the filesize could be a problem though, it would be best for people to download it prior to joining the server. Haven't had a thorough check to see whether it's TCS worthy personally.

Tried it on MH even. A bit laggy and heavy on the graphics cards. Doesn't add anything to the layout. Was discarded.
I like the look of some of the Dimension Studios maps and have downloaded them. Will play them on my PC so if they play ok on mine then they will be ok on anyone elses :D
I'm playing it on a 6600GT (3 years old), so I doubt any1 here has sometihng weaker...
And it does add new places to hide and some spice.

Don't maps automatically get downloaded from the server? I've played a few new maps over there and they all loaded very fast.

That's good, takes away a LOT of hassle and it works very well, because downloading them from the server costs almost no time at all.
