'You ain't as dumb as you look' was famously quoted by Muhammed Ali to Michael Parkinson on the Michael Parkinson Show a long long time ago in another galaxy far, far away.
Note to self: Choose your wittisms carefully, not everyone will understand them.
Ah, like that.
Well, at the time when I read it it was really late and I was sleepy (and I had quit a few beers). Then I thought, it's Ron, he doesn't insult people on forums. :winkiss:
I need to change my vote, I've pre-ordered it using the dMw affiliates link (http://astore.amazon.co.uk/deadmenwalkin-21/202-9451783-8466224):D

QuoteHey STALKER fans!
Thanks for signing up to be notified of the FilePlanet STALKER Beta test event.
As you might have guessed, with the game hitting stores this coming Tuesday,
FilePlanet was unable to run a pre-launch beta test as originally planned.
Modern software development â€" especially for big and ambitious titles â€" is a
tricky and time-sensitive affair, literally involving teams from all over the
world. On behalf of FilePlanet, I’d like to apologize that we weren’t able to
move forward with the pre-launch beta test as we’d originally planned.
But there’s some good news coming out of Chernobyl! (How often do you hear
that?) We’re still planning on doing a multiplayer test event for FilePlanet
subscribers post-launch. We’ll keep those of you on this list notified of when
you can get in there and get your boots dirty. Stay tuned for details, and
thanks for your patience!

I was looking forward to the beta but it seems as though this has been cancelled. Sometimes the beta/ demo releases enable me to see the game and usually on playing demo's/ betas i usually purchase the game if i like the look and feel. I don't remember if any of our community attended the gamestars live event in london a couple of years ago but a beta/ demo of stalker's multiplayer was being displayed and gamers were allowed to play against each other. This may have been a very early release as stalker has been through several stages of development. I look forward to the demo.

Will do. :) I agree with Doorman, will see the reviews first.
Have just had a look at the site, (developer), have to say looks very nice:thumbsup2:. The layout of the world features, and the "movement" (as such) of the characters that live in the world is quite similar to Oblivion? Except i guess the AI are far more intelligent? What really "entices" me is the story line. I like these sorts of game genres, plus it doesn't seem to be one of those simple horror - shoot anything that moves games. Being able to communicate with other characters than having to just run away all the time is refreshing, also feeling more in control of the game, - i.e. your decisions affect what happens in the game, more so than others.
With the story being based on true events makes it more believable, the player will be able to immerse him/herself a bit more than say Oblivion, Baulders Gate e.t.c as i found quite hard to do. But are the four weapons on the developer site all that you are limited too? Monster characters designs look pretty cool as well. Interesting to see how the multiplayer option pans out.

I'm almost 100% sure, that you have
More weapons. But even if you don't, there are so many ways to upgrade them, it wont even make a diffrence! :)

umm seriousely.. Baldurs Gate is a 2d-3d ish rpg game. Stalker is a full 3D fps.. you cant compare games of different genres..
imo, stalker will be very similar to Deus Ex 1 (and that was an uber kickass game)
I'm waiting to see the reviews and play the demo. Under normal circumstances i'd just go right out and buy it, but my WoW addiction only really gives me time to play one other game at a time apart from that, and there's about 3 or 4 coming out at the end of the month that I want to get:
S.T.A.L.K.E.R
Command and Conquer 3
Medal of Honor Vanguard (Wii)
er, i'm sure there was another one...
bioshock?
Is that due out that soon? If so, that would have been it. Though I don't own a 360, and hate FPS games where your PoV is controlled using a joystick, so will be waiting for a PC version.

sorry its been deleayed for 3months.. :S
anyways news on stalker: its been cracked..
The meaning of STALKER has finally been deciphered.
Publisher THQ after recently announcing that the first person shooter STALKER, based around the Chernobyl nuclear fallout and ensuing DNA disintegrating madness, has gone gold and should be hitting retail stores by the end of this month, have gone to release the meaning of the acronym STALKER which has been kept under wraps.
The game is free roam in nature, based in the radiation infested area known as the Zone, with the smouldering nuclear reactor at the centre. The acronym has now been revealed to stand for Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers. Why did they insist on keeping this under wraps I ask?
Because it generate far more interest and attention than they would have got otherwise :narnar:
First the prices on play.com were the same for the limited edition and the normal game, the normal game is now 10 Euros cheaper...
Yay, my order has been posted!
I'm going to recieve it at work so hopefully I'll have it this Friday! :yahoo:
Give us a shout on Friday night if you've got it :) I plan to pick it up from town on Saturday, but i've heard major issues about stability from various review sites. However all those were talking about running it on Vista, and apparently stability is much better on XP.

Will do! If it arives Friday then I'll probably take of from work a bit earlier.
KKND put up a link in another thread so you can check if your computer can handle it (online check).
I'm still on XP and for the time being I'll stick to that.
For the rest fingers crossed that it arrives Friday. :woot2:
I have been playing for an hour and keep getting some serious graphical glitching the screen is completely unwatchable lots of triangles all pointing into the centre of the screen.
Other than that it looks nice but the trading system and dialogue is a bit clunky. Once you pick up the shotgun, in the first mission to retrieve nimble, taking care of the enemy is pretty easy. Onto the 2nd mission now which is retrieveing an artifact from the 2nd floor of a bio research centre.
Yeah, am wondering how well my system will handle it. it's well above the min specs in most aspects, but that test thingy only shows it as being just over min specs cos i've only got a single core CPU. It's a high end single core, but still only a single core.
Aah well. I guess if i'm getting it from Gamestation in town I can always take it back if it's that buggy on my system.
Or can I? Now that i think about it, I tried to taek Splinter Cell: Double Agent back as too buggy to play, and they told me it had been opened so they'd only give me trade in price (this being on PC and a good... ohhh....2 weeks? after it came out trade in price was under a tenner) and i'd have to take my issues up with the publisher. Hence why it's been sat on my shelf unused for the past 3 months or so, while I wait in vain for a patch to be shipped.

Ahwell, MH tonight then...
mine arrived this morning - haven't had a chance to install it yet.
I keep getting killed just playing around!
Ran into an anomally, just to see what would happen.
The inventory system looks very RPG.
And the tin is quite nice. :D
The cutscenes and NPC's seem to have slight lipsync problems.
Just put settings to maximum and still no problems.
Haven't been in any big action scenes, but all okay so far.

Good to know as I've got the same cards in SLI. Should hopefully be OK at full resolution (1920x1200). I don't know if it's arrived yet but I will be on the Hook tonight anyway :boxing:

Hmm. If I am going to have any issues here is where they will lie. I note that the recommended spec is for a dual-core CPU, and i'm still running a single-core Socket 939 4000+. When I try the system analysis thingy that someone linked to the only thing that took me down below the recommended spec was my CPU, but it took me quite a way below it because of there only being 1 core. Still above min spec though.

Hopefully I should be able to run it at that res and med or high settings then. I don't want to drop the res below that cos then i'll not be running at the native res of my monitor.
