Title: Half Life : Source

I saw STEAM sells it for 10$; is it worth it? (or should we wait for the Black Mesa MOD)?

It's half life with the graphics revamped (a little bit). If you are pining to replay HL then it's worth it but I got bored after one level :(

I am with BB on this. They haven't put much effort into the graphics. It is rather that you get the physics engine. Fun to blow up stuff ... for one level.

Wait for black mesa source. This is a third party mod for the source engine soon to be released :).

:withstupid: For Half Life Source they didn't actually improve the textures of the character models etc... at all. The basically used their automated level conversion tool to convert all the original HL1 levels to the Source engine. So the water looks like it does in HL2 (nice and realistic), and the physics engine is there to throw stuff about, and the lighting engine is improved, but all the models look the same as they originally did, as do the textures.

I've not heard of it before this, but that's a shame really, they could have got some good sales on it if done properly, actually they probably will anyway. :P

True, but I think a lot of people underestimate the amount of work required to sucessfully do a conversion of the sort they wanted. It simply wouldn't be worth Valve's time, as they were selling it for cheap and/or giving it away free with sales of HL2. As the BMS team have proved, with all the great work they are doing, it's not just a case of doing the conversion and then redoing the models and textures. You have to redo all the levels from scratch, to get the extra poly count in there as well, not just on the characters.

Aye, its taking the BMS team since the launch of HL2 and thier only now getting close to the end of it. One hell of a lot of work to be done.

I can imagine that, they were great games though. :D So are they only bunking them with HL2 orders or can you get it on it's own?

You can get it on it's own if you have a steam account:
