Title: After the lastest steam update...
Post by: delanvital on April 01, 2007, 08:38:30 PM
I keep getting this box. When it happens while gaming I tend to get dropped. Or steam just gets plain weird. Tried various things to no avail. Anyone?

not seeing that. It might be a corrupted file or a fiole that wasn't properly updated

STEAM.EXE - APPLICATION ERROR
The instruction at "0x1000ecd" referenced memory at "0x016470c0." The memory could not be "read."
The solution is simple - simply browse to your Steam folder (usually c:\program files\steam) and delete the file "ClientRegistry.blob". Restart Steam and it should work fine.

Please note that fixing this problem may revert or delete your active Steam settings - you may need to manually go through and ensure your games are not set to 'Automatically keep this game up to date', or else Steam may download large amounts of content in the background.

So: It's the good old BLOBfile again.

Del, make sure is the registry.BLOB.
Make sure that you don't have Steam running.

1)Close Steam
2)Delete registry.BLOB
3)Start up Steam, the registry.BLOB will be created automaticly again by Steam.

Still no luck. A new blob file was created nicely. But I still get this at random. It can occur whenever. Some evenings are fine, some are very problematic. Just right now it came up as I the game to window-mode (?)

I would say completely patternless. It has so far occured when, hm...

- during a game, which causes messed up graphics
- during a game, which causes loss of connection
- in menu, when trying to start cs:s
- in game, when changing resolution
- when starting steam
- when attempting to close steam

The box then pops up and steam will sort of function until i click ok - it then closes down/crashes. This has started to happen since last steam update, what was it, a week ago or so?

Today it keeps popping op when try to connect to the servers... both MH and boomer... Yesterday everything was perfect, no drops or such. Not sure if this is a steam issue or not.

So far I have deleted the blob (not to often I write that sentence), defragged cs:s and check integrity of cs:s and of course tried to run it with every possible process disabled/closed.

It sounds to me like you may have too many programs open? Also how much RAM do you have? Get into a similiar situation again then go to task manager > performance, then see how the lower two graphs are doing, make sure the Page File Usage History isn't going above the halfway point.

As i said, I tried closing down all possible processes. Also, only happened after latest steam update. I have 1,25GB and a neatly cleaned system mem-wise when playing.

My approach would be to backup all your steam apps (the ones in the "your email" folder) then delete steam, reinstall it and copy your apps folder back.
