This week, threads have started showing up on various forums containing what appears to be evidence that GSC Game World's recently released shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl makes use of a number of graphical assets taken directly from commercially released games such as Valve's Half-Life 2 and id Software's Doom 3. Many forum posters are speculating that the assets were used without authorization.
One of the first threads to be made regarding the matter was posted to the MapCore forums (http://www.mapcore.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8034); the thread creator, user michi.be, posted screen captures allegedly comparing the light image folders from S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/stalker_assets/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.+Asset+Incident/1/thumbs/070408_stalkerassets_lights_stalker_01.jpg) to those of Doom 3 (http://www.shacknews.com/screens.x/stalker_assets/S.T.A.L.K.E.R.+Asset+Incident/1/thumbs/070408_stalkerassets_lights_doom_01.jpg) (all screen captures locally mirrored). Tellingly, though some of the images had been modified in various ways, such as having hue or saturation adjustments, the original filenames from the Doom 3 folders remained the same--for example, a file with the Doom-esque name "lights_impflash.dds," referring to one of the game's enemies, was visually modified in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. folder but retained the filename.

I thought it felt familiar:tongue:
but, seriously...does anyone still play it?
I got fed up with it after 4 hrs
nothing special apart from the really scary dogs (the AI is good as well)
not bothered playing multi as the single player failed to impress
I dare say it was a great idea 7 or 8 years ago, when it was conceived...but it took too long to hit the streets, and was over hyped and eagerly awaited.

Im not playing anymore...dont like the game that much:eyebrow:
I tried too keep playing but even on low settings its very laggy. I haven't felt the urge to give it another go.
Not playing anymore, kinda got fed up after i reached the garbage, where there are just too many enemys to be even remotely fun  (AI is good, and there a good shot, theres just too bloody many of em)
Will anyone consider selling there copy at the lan? If so please let me know.

I did with some fine graphics improvements, which have emerged. It looks really nice now, but gameplay and such is outdated.
! ... everything about it looked so good up until this thread got started :S ...is STALKER really not very good??
Thiefssssssssssssssssssssss:eyebrow:
Well I haven't loaded it up for a few weeks, but when I did I started following the story line a bit and have had a cut-scene flashback to what appears to be just before the 'Zone' occured. This was as part of the underground laboratory task when I killed a pyschic thing that was attacking me with fire (not the one in the underground hideout of the bloke you are after, which will probably turn out to be yourself or something), its quite strange, boxes and other objects start floating and you just stand and watch them, until they suddenly get launched at you.
You get to see the remains and equipment of some strange experiments that have been going on.
Once you clear certain areas and claim the 'rewards', they tend to remain relatively clear of bad guys.
Anyway, a lot more 'zone' fables start to appear in conversations as well, so I think the monotony of the first few areas may give way to some interesting storyline.
Or maybe not.... I dunno.
I like the movies and storyline quit a bit but haven't played it lately because I'm just to busy with several RL-things.
Last time I only disliked the "lagging"-bit which definatly shouldn't happen with my Shuttle...

That says it all IMO
if a game is not good enough to interfere with your life, then it's No Damn Good:sad:

Good point though. I think thats why I stopped playing BF2 - I found RL more enjoyable.
Actually, then why have I also stopped playing CounterStrike for the moment  :flirty:
