Title: In house tournament Sunday 22 June
Post by: Dr Sadako on May 15, 2003, 10:11:09 AM
It was a long time since we had the last in house tournament (5th January to be exact) and I really enjoyed it the last time. I think we should get another one going.

22 June or 1 July (both sundays) are dates that are more than a month away. Keep the same shape of the tournament as before i.e. 4 teams with 6 players.

Last time we used Aztec, Dust 2, Inferno and Nuke.

http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=924 (http://forum.deadmen.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=924)

This time maybe we should do a theme? One idea could be oriental influence. Shogun, Osaka, Bigwong etc I know that some of those maps are CS maps. Another could be to have DM style maps to break from the PCS i.e. iceworld, poolday, prospeedball. Intense and hectic matches. Could be lots of fun. We know this from the LAN.

What do you think?

I agree that it's time for another tourny bit I'm concerned that we may struggle to get teams with only 1 month to organise added to the fact that Summer's a'commin'.  8)

Quotecan we stick it down on the avalability and see how many can make it ?

We could but it was open to all PCS members before and I think that we would easily fill up 24 slots in a month.

I agree that it is close to summer and that is why I want it now and not after the summer. :wtf:

I think we should open it up to all PCS members after the clan have all had a chance to signup so sticking up on the availability page is a good idea IMHO.

I must say though that I won't be available. Sunny Sunday afternoons are too few to spend a whole one infront of the poota.

Didn't we end up using de_train for the last one?

We need at least a month to get the teams sorted.  So let's post something up for beginning of July - just ask for people who want to play, say we will announce teams, team size, maps etc nearer the time.

I would suggest that we need to set out how many teams we are going to have and decide whether to do a Knock Out or a Round Robin like last time.  Round robins take up a lot more time.

If we had say 2/4/8/16 teams of 'however many' then we could run the Knockout.  But we do not need to tell them whether or not we are doing knock out or league style just yet - let's sign them up and then sort the details when we know how many are coming along.

Suggestion - We use 3 min rounds (quicker)

I like the idea of some short sharp maps like the deagle maps.  They are pretty intense for a competition!

I also like the idea of a theme - so let's discuss this for a while longer and then provide map and tourney style details to the entrants later.

Think that was the one before actually.

Well, we only have 2 servers so we should keep them busy. I think that 4 teams is enough and all teams meet once. It will be a logistic nightmare with more teams. This is what we are looking at:

4 Teams

2 pm
Team 1 - Team 2 on MH
Team 3 - Team 4 on Baldric

3 pm
Team 1 - Team 3 on MH
Team 2 - Team 4 on Baldric

4 pm
Team 1 - Team 4 on MH
Team 2 - Team 3 on Baldric

5 Teams

2 pm (Team 5 not playing)
Team 1 - Team 2 on MH
Team 3 - Team 4 on Baldric

3 pm (Team 4 not playing)
Team 1 - Team 5 on MH
Team 2 - Team 3 on Baldric

4 pm (Team 3 not playing)
Team 1 - Team 4 on MH
Team 2 - Team 5 on Baldric

Dinner break if needed 5-6 pm

6 pm (Team 2 not playing)
Team 1 - Team 3 on MH
Team 4 - Team 5 on Baldric

7 pm (Team 1 not playing)
Team 2 - Team 4 on MH
Team 3 - Team 5 on Baldric

6 Teams (This requires 3 servers.)

2 pm
Team 1 - Team 2 on MH
Team 3 - Team 4 on Baldric
Team 5 - Team 6 on ?

3 pm
Team 1 - Team 3 on MH
Team 2 - Team 5 on Baldric
Team 4 - Team 6 on ?

4 pm
Team 1 - Team 4 on MH
Team 2 - Team 6 on Baldric
Team 3 - Team 5 on ?

Dinner break if needed 5-6 pm

6 pm
Team 1 - Team 5 on MH
Team 2 - Team 4 on Baldric
Team 3 - Team 6 on ?

7 pm
Team 1 - Team 6 on MH
Team 2 - Team 3 on Baldric
Team 4 - Team 5 on ?

You see that it will take equally long time to have 5 teams as to have 6 teams in the tournament.

Sure. I don't expect "time run out wins" to be a problem on DM maps. :)

They were great fun at the LAN. That fy_iceworld was very intense and lots of fun.

Maybe we could keep that one until the next tournament in the fall/winter.

jb lent us his server for a match a little while ago and it was well good also our friends over at cbm have rather a spanky 1
in fact as a suggestion we could see about a cbm team, a dg team , and a dmw invitational select xi (people like fatal and snooks and the tox family regulars etc) as well as 3 mixed dmw teams im sure we'd have no trouble filling the avail for that, 18 out of 25 dmw members on any given sunday is a fairly safe bet. it would be fun to involve the other clans as well, most of them we know already and have played many friendlies with, imho it would add a bit of spice to the proceedings.
just a suggestion so feel free to flame away !!

As the cat is out of the bag for the inhouse tourney, then it may be difficult to work that idea in to this one, but I like the concept.  Maybe we should do another tourney not that long afterwards on that basis?

Theme: snow!

You remember the xmas pack we never played. I played winterdust recently and it was a very different experience. Very fun but different.

I played cs_snowflake on TG and it was a fun map.

OK, that's a done deal.  When we know how many peeps we will have (and hence have decided format and team sizes) we can think about which specific snow maps to use.

I think we need to start planning the maps and teams to some extent for the tournament.

Here is the reviews for the X-mas pack.

http://www.cstrike.de/mapreviews/xmas/index.php (http://www.cstrike.de/mapreviews/xmas/index.php)

Right now we have 30 ppl that have signed up. Unless we have 2 more ppl we could either go with:

teams of 6 = 5 teams (one team sits out, not good)
teams of 5 = 6 teams (needs 3 servers, many matches)
teams of 7 = 4 teams and 2 subs (2 servers)
teams of 8 = 4 teams (requires 2 more ppl)

OK Sadako you need to tweak your teams a bit as we now have the full 32 players.

We will have 4 teams of 8.
Each team will play each other once (i.e. 2 servers x 3 matches each, total 6 matches).
Scores based on the round differential only.
At end of 3 matches, best 2 teams play final on Homer, 3rd/4th place play off on Baldric.  That should mean 4 matches only.

I would suggest we play CO rules, 3min rounds and max 20 minutes per side?  Comments please, inc some from OB on how easy or not it will be to set up server accordingly......

Maps: I think we should use a different map each round.  Continuing the planned snowy theme, my guesses would be:

cs_real_alpin
cs_tibet
de_soviet
de_winternuke
de_survivor

We need to pick 4 from that - any preferences?

de_maps work better imo. However you should have another look at de_winterdust as it is different with the snow and new textures.

cs_snowflake is another great map that easily could hold 16 players. Check it out.

Survivor is a given. Tibet is too small. Winternuke is a fun map.

When OB puts the xmas pack on we could do a quick run through.

Tweaking the teams is hard. Could you come with suggestions. I have completed the teams above but I don't know if they are even. I have tried to get some stronger and some weaker players in every team.

We have problem with some of the winter maps so xmasdust is out of the picture.

My suggestion is that we play de_survivor and de_winternuke on CO rules, 3min rounds and max 20 minutes per side. (If it is possible to set up). One idea could be to play survivor only ...

Teams as above if no one has any objections.

Teams will be as follows (I made one minor change).  I think the teams look fairly even now....

Team1
Albert (Squad Leader)
Red_Thunder
Smilodon
Brass
Squonk
Flibber
GFK
Swiss

Team2
JonnyAppleSeed (Squad Leader)
JB
Doorman
Marsvolta
Benny
ChimpBoy
SLoWHaND
JimmyJazz

Team3
TeaLeaf (Squad Leader)
Suicidal_Monkey
DarkAngel
Sheepy
Stryker
Mad_ness
Armitage
Fatbob

Team4
Smite (Squad Leader)
DeadMike
Grim Reaper
Zok
Rad_Man
Ninja_Freak
Dingo
Sadako

We will go CO, 3 min rounds, 20 min max per side, FFOn and non-PCS.  The draw will dictate who goes first on which match (i.e. no knife round).

Round One on de_winternuke
Round Two on de_survivor
Round Three on de_winternuke
Finals/3rd-4th Play-offs on de_survivor

I will post this up on the public section.

QuoteTeams will be as follows (I made one minor change). I think the teams look fairly even now....

I think your team became way too strong when you shifted DA to your team. I think that DA should have been in Team 1 instead and that you should have kept Dingo. Your team is without a doubt the strongest one now (and was even before the shift).

We will see how it goes but it seems very one sided at the moment.

QuoteI'll make a co.cfg file to set server up with.

This is now in place on both servers.

It sets the server up for CO/3min rounds/20 mins/FCC2/$800.

It also sets the server password to snowy

Running std.cfg puts everything back to normal.
