Just (last night) sold something on ebay (hurrah!) via paypal and have received the email from paypal etc...
Is that money like securely mine now? No annoying 3-days to clearing like cheques or anything?
Don't think there i a delay. When you are paying you have to have the funds available so they are taken immediately - see no reason why they cannot be given immediately. Sounds like you got a good buyer, worth leaving some positive feedback for them.
no delay using paypal/ebay. Best way is to see if it will let you transfer the money to your bank account.
when i was the abbey the transfer from bank to paypal was instant and then the payment was made, i think the longest i waited was about 2mins
my new bank doesnt do this, they pay by echeque so every time i pay with pay pal it takes 9 days from start to finish:ranting2:
It should be instant-as my Dad uses it a lot, and everytime he pays/recives money, it's like... *Click* that fast.
Ok if you transfer the money and its below £50 to a bank account it costs money and it takes about 3-7 days to get to your bank. If its over £50 its free to transfer.

what I mean is - if I sell something on ebay and they pay by Paypal, at what point do I actually have the money (not wanting to be burned aka cheques that show up on the balance and then get cancelled etc)
I'm hoping it is instant and that if they fail to pay paypal then I still have my payment and it's up to paypal to go after them?

They can't pay for the item, if they don't have the money in their bank.
So, if they fail to pay money to you via Pay-pal, then You don't get your money.

Paying with Paypal is the same as using a credit card on Amazone. It's instant, once ebay has reported that someone has paid for x item then you have the money.
Not in your actual possesion but in your paypal account. It will be in your possession when you withdraw it to your bank account as i said in my last post :rolleyes:.
The First time you receive £ on pay pal, it takes longer, don't you have to confirm two small credits first?

I didn't think you could sell things until you had a verified bank account with them. As you say, by confirming the small amount they stick into your bank account.
I think SM wants to know when its safe to send the goods out. I've sold quit a few things on ebay and I send stuff out as soon as Paypal send me the email that says I've received the funds. :)

Yeah, as soon as you've got the money in your Pay-Pal account, only you ( maybe the bank ) can take that money and use it. sorta thing.
