You shouldn't be posting: Game on and have a drink!
me too i want to go again, althou hopefully mum in law wil be well enough for me to stay whole weekend next time
Dates for the next LAN have now been agreed and confirmed with the Oliver Cromwell hotel.
LAN XII will be held on Friday 9th to Sunday 11th November 2007 inclusive.
IMPORTANT:
For those planning their travel arrangements this note is important:
The LAN will officially open at 10.00am on Friday morning
The LAN will officially end at 11.00am on Sunday morning as we will need to be out of the room to allow them to convert it back to its normal Sunday lunch use.
I am hoping these changes do not cause any problems, but I suspect they should be fine as most people had left LAN XI by 11.00am on Sunday morning anyway!
TL.
PS: Apologies for this being slightly later than planned, but the hotel noticed that on the dates we had intended to use the whole hotel was booked up on the Friday night leaving us with nowhere to sleep!
As a further date for your diary: LAN XIII has been booked for Friday 11th - Sunday 13th April 2008.
Thanks for the dates :). Would it be possible to have a steak night on the friday nights as a few members were really looking forward to it but this year it seemed as though it had been cancelled.
Nothing was cancelled as nothing had been arranged. Last time they happened to run a steak night anyway, we just happened to be there. However arrangements for our own are already in hand.
TL.
Question, as GMJR booked allready quit early last time, is it allowed to book now at the hotel or is the early date more for the people overseas to prebook flights??
BTW, you're so fast with the weekend this time that EasyJet doesn't even book flights allready that far (now 19 October snd such).
Costs are looking good for me though. To Stansted: 22.99 Euros and back to Amsterdam: 16.22 Euros.
Thanks for setting it up so quick fom they who come overseas...

Quote from: DuVeL;186378Question, as GMJR booked allready quit early last time, is it allowed to book now at the hotel or is the early date more for the people overseas to prebook flights??
I would suggest some tolerance is used and early booking would be allowed for those coming from overseas where they let Penfold or myself know in advance. For UK-based people I would prefer no bookings are made until the booking thread is opened to you otherwise we could theoretically find all rooms booked by those without a booking for a LAN place!

Yes, you need to bring you own PC
It costs £15 for the weekend (+hotel)
It is located in a market town called March - in Cambridgeshire.

Costs: For the venue - £15 total per head for the whole weekend
Costs: Bed & Breakfast Accommodation: double occupancy £33 per person per night, sole occupancy £50 per room per night
Room Availability: 35 x Double; 8 x Twin

As before, the reduced accommodation and function room rates have been negotiated on the basis that the majority of the attendees will partake of the excellent cuisine offered by either the hotel restaurant's Fixed price, A La Carte or Bar menus
on the Friday night. JOIN US for the
WELCOME DINNER on Friday evening in Ballroom 2 at 7.30pm.
Eating at the hotel is NOT mandatory, but I am sure that any attendee from the last couple of LANs will vouch for the quality of both the food and the company!

- 24/7 access to the suite
- dMw control of entry to the suite

Amongst other things the LAN will feature:
- a list of officially supported games (BF2 and CS variants will both be there)
- organised competitions
- official LAN Admins
- late night gaming

Nah, got it coverd. When November shows up I'll book a.s.a.p.
I'm just wondering which plane to take back as the LAN might end early this time, this way I have more time to take the train and such in the NL.
The LAN will definitely end and the room must be cleared by 11.00am (which was pretty much the same as this time).
They need the room for their Sunday lunchtime (and will need time to fumigate Benny's smelly area).
With the heavily subsidised rate and the free conference room - we get a cracking deal (:clap2: TL) so it's fair enough to vacate it by then so they don't take too much of a hit.
Therefore a mid PM flight would probably be fine?

Most definatly.

They set up dates so the people from overseas can book flights in advance (so that the flights and such are way cheaper).
The day UK-peeps can book will be called up also way infront so don't worry, I don't see an all EuroLAN coming up though...
:withstupid:
The Official booking thread will go live in August/September-ish.
As usual the booking list will be open to Charlie members, then Bravo members and then everyone else.
The Europhiles have special dispensation to hop ahead of the queue as they're paying for airfares upfront and it would be a tad gutting if the lan got booked out before they had a chance to sign up :roflmao:

Us scandinavians were planning to do that in another thread (http://www.deadmen.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=19480&page=2), yea, but it kinda died.. That doesn't mean we can't go to the LAN though, does it?
So far the boat arrangement is a bit pricey with the cabins, compared to a cheap, early heads-up flight. Downside is me having do bring the PC in a flightcase and be sexually violated by some shemale in customs (in Duvel's dreams that is). Also, transportation from Stansted to March would have been sorted with Sadako driving...

Port of call is Harwich. Looking at Google maps, and the big roads and such, it looks logistically rather bad from there to March?
You'd probably have to train it from Harwich. It's the arse end of nowhere (no offence :)).
It'll take 2 hours by train with one change.
EG:
Depart: 13:06 Harwich International (HPQ) (http://nationalrail.co.uk/permalink/stations/HPQ.html) Arrive: 13:32 Colchester (COL) (http://nationalrail.co.uk/permalink/stations/COL.html) Duration: 0:26

Me and Delan are looking into the possibility to drive all the way to UK. It is a 13 hour drive from south Sweden through Denmark. Anyone know how easy/difficult it is to take the car across from France to UK?
Driving enables us to bring our own rigs to the LAN. It is 2600 km return trip which makes it economically ok as well.
Quote from: Dr Sadako;192280Anyone know how easy/difficult it is to take the car across from France to UK?
It's pretty easy, just catch a ferry to London, or something. I can't remember excatly where the ferry comes/goes from/to France though.
Dover-Calais/Dunkirk is the most obvious, or Rotterdam/Zeebrugge-Hull? Always the Chunnel too. Fancy Esbjerg-Harwich or Stavanger-Newcastle?
Quote from: BigFatCat;192296Dover-Calais/Dunkirk is the most obvious, or Rotterdam/Zeebrugge-Hull? Always the Chunnel too. Fancy Esbjerg-Harwich or Stavanger-Newcastle?
We are not going Esbjerg-Harwich because the ticket will be 500 Euros per person if we select cabin. Sleeping on the floor will be much cheaper of course. Ferrys in general seems quite pricey. Dover-Calais or the tunnel seem to be the best choice.
I can inform you all that I have now ordered my tickets for the lan, so no turning back now - I'm coming, whether you like it or not :norty:
Due to SAS's prices being outrageous for a flight at a time that would make me get to the lan in time on Friday, and Norwegian not having any flights on Fridays, I had to order a flight on Thursday on the way over there. I've been assured from several people that housing me from Thursday to Friday won't be a problem, but we can look at the details for that when we're getting a bit closer to the lan :)
Thursday 8th of November
NORWEGIAN

Oslo - Trondheim (SK384)
22:30 - 23:25
For those foreigners that might be interested in something to compare with, I ended up with a total of NOK 1995,- (GBP 169,-). That is about the same as I payed las time (perhaps a bit cheaper, but not much), so I'm pretty happy.
The price with SAS for the rebound was actually NOK 376,- (GBP 31,-) just 5 days ago, so those suckers definitely change their prices quite fast :ranting2:

So instead of wasting your money on gfx you better go get a ticket to 254gbp anyway mate! The LAN is memories for life (disclaimer: unless you get too drunk or get permanent amnesia. Contact your local doctor before consuming).
Also checking out several sites for cheapest flights can be really rewarding although I don't know alot of Malta (probably there's like Malta-Airways or such).
