The Fun Police are now accepting applications for membership. If you would like to:
- piss on people's parties
- ruin gaming at the LAN
- bring a dedicated server to the LAN and then not run 'proper' CS maps
- have the cheek to try to organise a 2v2 comp and not let people pick their own partner
- use a really lame map for the comp
If you think this is for you, then come and join.
This has really got me steamed - Next time someone else can hold the ferkin keys - I thought at the time that it was the right call to make to call a halt to proceedings at 1.00am. There was sufficient equipment in the room to make me worry about its security and as I was the one asked to make the call, I made it. I'm sorry if it pissed people off but someone had to make the decision.
I am also a bit p*ssed off at someone slagging off the choice of maps for the 2v2 comp, then later in the article calling the match really 'tense and good'. That would be as daft as deriding the lack of 'proper CS' being played at the LAN and then delighting in an fy_pool DM shoot out wouldn't it? Oh yeah, he did that too in the same article.....
So I think I'll go find a gun and shoot myself in the head to help me calm down. Or would it be Silly to confuse a dMw LAN with a commercial one?
Damn it that pissed me off...........next time I'll just bring my own PC and sit in the corner and some other b*stard can set up the servers, run them and generally p*ss most of their weekend up the wall trying to keep the troops entertained......he obviously doesn't have a fookin clue how much work went in to that weekend........gaaaaaaaaaaagh!!! sh*t like that makes me just want to throw the towel in and go do something else with my time..........b*stard b*stard b*stard. I need to go and let the steam escape.......
TL .
I agree with you TL. What can I say. One guy with serious self esteem problems and 34 of 35 guys that think you did a great job (that is 97% btw). For crying out loud his name is Silly!!! ;)
When I talked to him at the LAN he seemed like a guy that like to stir things up, being a bit cocky and thought to be No 1. I have seen guys like these come and go in numbers. Hey I even have had some for breakfast. The only thing they live for and get their energy from is when they get the reaction your are displaying right now. Then they feel big.
All you need to know is that you are a better person than him and forget about it. I know about being picked at and I know it hurts and you get mad as hell. It is not worth it though. It is just another log on his fire.
I and 33 other guys thought you did a top job. If he didn't enjoy it ... tough luck. He don't have to come to the next LAN.
Do you want me to send you some games to cheer you up.
TL ffs dont worry about silly i thought he was a TWAT anyway...in the indian we argued about PCS and AWM usage to which i was getting totally fooked off with him and lbert came to my rescue by closing the subject...he is a twat and i will actively avoid him.
But i also made the comment about the key so i will give my reasons for my said "can we stay up a bit longer dad".
When in the indian I asked bob what time we were closing up he said the last person can have the key and seeing as myself and JAS were the last ones out of the previous LAN we locked up ..so i volunteered to keep the key if i was last.
There were still at least 20-25 people still playing which was s shame coz we were having a cracking game.
These comments are my own feelings and i dont mean any ill feeling with them.
Please FFS dont let any of this ruin a good weekend we all had a good time lets remember that......i thought it went too damn quick.
TL chill by the sound of it you didnt get into much of the gaming due to sorting your PC and organising....let us all take a hand in it next time and not just leave it up to you and oldie.
Also i think we have hit the limit in my oppinion for how many people we have at the LAN it was bordering chaos for a few hours as everyone was doing there own thing.
My personal feeling is we could have done with a couple more games to all try out i think the first LAN we played about 5 maybe 6 games the second about 4-5 this one 2.
TL you did a great job but at the expense of your fun im sorry about that lets fix it for next time ......Love you always big fella missing ya already  :D :D :D
What they said TL 8)
Silly is an TANGO.
TeaLeaf - You asked me what you should do and I agreed that in the interests of security it was best for everyone to pack up at 1am. With hindsight (a wonderful thing as everyone knows) it could have been handled differently.
My view was that I was at a two-day event. A 1am finish meant I was up ready to go by 8:30 the following morning. Worked for me.
I've already decided he aint invited to LAN IV. Anyone disagree?
I am with OB. :D
Thank you for the supportive responses.........I posted in here because it is not public and I figured that the Admins would allow me some space to blow of steam. Writing that post was actually quite therapeutic :D
I think we reached the LAN limit in terms of numbers. possibly even slightly over. More discussions need to be had before the next one......
TL. 8)
:D :D Silly is a twat :D :D
Has a nice ring to it
yeah. don't worry TL. Have a beer.
oh, and I've not read the whole post. Don't think I will now.
Oh, and sorry for my absence for the last week. Got into work on Monday and found that our PDC server had spit two disks out of the raid array. It all rapidly went downhill from there with both arrays going critical on Tuesday morning and dead status by the afternoon!
Tuesday was not fun. Wednesday was better because I found a method of zapping the raid tables while keeping the partitions intact. By Wednesday evening I had a working server again! Yay. Thursday and Friday was spent cleaning up the mess of multiple crashes and last night I finished at about 11pm software mirroring the drives until I can get some new hardware. (I think it was one of the hot swap bays on the fritz, as they seem to be fine in the 2nd)
Anyway, finished up this morning and the server is happy once again, but not running at peak capacity. Need some more hardware.
Sorry for highjacking your post TL, but it seemed like a good place to rant about computers and their jelous ways :x :x (I'm sure it knew I was away for the weekend, and it thought 'right yah bast! I'll get yah') :x
I'm gonna join a monastary. Really do not want another week like last.
Corking job TL. There really are no words that can express my.our thanks.
I think about 35 is a good number, although perhaps an agenda for the next lan is the way to go and peeps should agree to it if they are to attend. Nothing too draconian just measures to ensure we get a *few* good games of cs in as thats what we are there for.
EG example for saturday: (note during cs games peeps can play, or chat, but no other GAME servers running).
*arrive till 11am (setting up)
*11am - 1pm CS RUMBLE, BIG MAPS Everyone playing.
*1pm-3pm Free game time. CS, MAFIA, UT2003, anything goes up to individules.
*3pm - 6pm CS league, 8 teams of 4
*6pm-8pm - Free game time
*8pm-10pm - FOOD!
*10pm - whenever Free game time
I think those couple of periods each day where the only servers allowed running are CS servers will ensure peeps pull together for some good games. I noticed people were playing games like UT while others played CS then of all things they'd seem to swap over, some move to CS just as those playing CS finished.
Just get peeps in sync and I reckon there may be some cracking games to be had.
Anyways, it was a REAL BLAST! and if thats because the likes of TL & OB put some time into organising games then hats off to you chaps. :smokin:
or better still we just run all the servers on one or two machines before the lan we all vote in 2 maybe 3 games (bet they are CS and UT2003 :-)
Then at he lan we run a game of each. Having one place and one place only to connect to the games may bring some order.
Also I'll stick my hand up to print off an info sheet for each person before the next lan. It will give them their IPs and other network info plus will list the games servers ips ports etc.
i am agreed on the silly front, me no likee but hey out of 33 if only 1 person you meet is a dickhead then its not soo bad. hes not on the list for the next 1 thats official.
I never got past the "Hellos" with the chap. To be honest it was not till I was packing my kit up that I stopped to realise I'd only socialised with about 50% of the peeps..... nuts.
Anyways, TL, what ever we do in the next LAN it may pay to delegate a little, I'm sure you can rely on the core dMw peeps.... even fatbob
I hereby volunteer to supply, configure and administer a box running at least two CS Servers.
ok so for next lan:
Oldie - server for two CS games.
Stryker - network config & server info sheets.
we still need:
*UT server - DM & Death ball with a download share for the patches etc.
*Agenda, if only a list of competitions with a bod to arrange them on the day.
any other tasks anyone can think of?
another question, those who turned up on friday, did you get the room that night for setting up?
maybe if we could set up the servers, lan, lay the cables out so absolutly everything is ready for kickoff on sat there would be less chaos next time.
Was it just me, or was Silly's haircut - well... silly?
TL, don't lose too much sleep over the opinions of one particularly self-obsessed TANGO-hole. Your efforts, along with everyone else involved in the running of things, made it a great weekend for me - lazy bastard that I am.
There were minor problems, but they weren't the "point-the-finger-at-someone" variety, more "damn-shoulda-thought-of-that-before" type things.
For the next one, it will definitely pay to have a planning discussion well beforehand and anticipate some of the problems so we can resolve them before the day...
Don't cry TL, we still love you m8...
