Title: Scout restrictions
Post by: Whitey on April 30, 2007, 10:44:42 PM
We have restricted the number of scouts per team, as on some maps we have had more than 50% of the players buying them and it doesn't make for good TCS.  This will be fine tuned over the next few days.

I noticed that, it is a good idea, it should help me cut down on scouting too.:)

This should make certain maps *cough*compound*cough* a bit more complicated for certain players *cough*eternal*cough* (http://i.somethingawful.com/forumsystem/emoticons/emot-laugh.gif)

It's a good idea, just a bit unfortunate that i never actually got to use the one scout of the team. :sideways:

Hey you can use the scout as a short ranged gun too, just ask jb he still has a dot in the middle of his screen (what a cheater :narnar: ).

Whatever next, shotgun restrictions?

No, but 'leaping around like Mr. Zebbedy' restrictions would be good. Bloody CTs and Ts come to that, acting more like Nureyev than clomping grunts. Keep ya feet on the ground!

Does anyone know if it's possible to add weapon restrictions to a selected person?
Or only allowed to buy a certain gun twice in a map or something..

There is  no automatic way AFAIK but there is a manual method; the admins watch you and kick you if you buy a scout 3 rounds in a row :narnar:

Or do the samething as one of the admins once did to me on MeatHook: making me drop my weapon everytime but I'm not sure if that's still possible.

DA and me will next time buy b4+9 = rubber band...(I reckon we'll still be able to make headshots).

While I don't think the scout is in any way overpowered I agree it'd be nice to limit it to 2 or 3 per team on certain maps lest they become scout-fests. On the plus side you've a decent chance of rushing a scout-er so long as you "jink" about a bit and fire wildly in their direction to help them miss ;)

Am I right in thinking the scout-restriction is less due to the ease with which it kills people but rather the proliferation, slowing maps to a creepy-crawly snipe-fest?

wrt shotguns - they're great close-quarter weapons, no reason they shouldn't achieve one shot kills - if you miss the guy with the m4 is going to fill you with lead fast unless you're lucky. The thing that's annoying wrt shotguns is when someone, at a distance, hops about like a loon (implementing jumping/sprinting restrictions ala DoD would help!) and slowly reduces your health in tiny chunks using a shotgun. One or two hops fair enough but sometimes... sigh :)

I'm not too fussed to be honest, but i do like to try the scout sometimes, as it's boring using the same gun all the time, if i can't get one, maybe i should do a DA and start on the shotties. :norty:

We have no problem with people using the scout but when you are trying to play TCS and everyone on the opposite team has one then TCS sort of dies a bit.

maybe we need some TCS tactics for dealing with Scouts - Sadako? :)

Might be a good thing to sort of hand out certain roles when playing with people you know. Like maybe if you team consists of you, eternal, DA, and some others, you could make eternal the designated team-sniper, leave short-range areas to DA with the shottie, then have the rest do more non-specific things, i.e. covering bomber/guarding areas/etc. :g:

Nope, listen to the bombcaller, if he calls rush B, you don't want to rush with a scout at long A...

The scout is a well balanced weapon in comparison to the others.. I agree with the awp/awm restriction as it's not balanced.

Changing other weapons will significantly change the balance of the game.. If they have scouts.. buy smoke and FB (and give DA a shottie)..

1 awp per team wouldn't hurt ...much :)

Thanks whitey :yahoo: Scouts might be the most balanced of the snipers, but when faced w/ 7 or so of them on the other side it becomes real old real fast.

i like these kitty cats
espacially the one with the pleasent position from blunt:) .
anyway, how much scouts can a team have in one round?
and... just a suggestion: how about, when a team is clearly outplayed, to allow one awp for them?
dont insult me its just a question:rolleyes:
Title: Scout restrictions
Post by: Whitey on June 19, 2007, 02:42:09 PM
On Boomer it would be too much hassle so the awp is banned.  On Meathook we have had the rule that an awp can be used if you are behind by 4 rounds.  It's always been our preference to balance the teams by moving players, rather than using the awp though.

AWP is only allowed on MH because otherwise people would buy an AWP straight way because of the 5k starting money (even on MH it's limited).

I reckon 1 or 2 scouts depending on teamsize.
