Title: Gold Farmers & How to Beat Them
Post by: TeaLeaf on May 11, 2007, 03:33:50 PM
One of the delights of the Armory is the ability to look at anyone's character and see what makes them tick.

So there I was earlier today, minding my own business in Blade's Edge Mountains when I notice a night elf hunter and his pet farming the same mob as me.  Quick respawn as it may have been with two of us there we would be runnign out of mob pretty quickly and the enchant I wanted to drop would therefore take longer to get.  So I whisper the hunter and ask if he wants to team up but I get no response.  Then I notice he is running the same pattern each time.

So......I start pulling mobs to him, his pet is on aggressive, so they get picked up by the pet and tanked very quickly.  Meanwhile he auto shots the mobs whilst I get another couple of mobs for his pet.  When I get back I loot the corspes of the first mobs and go grab another few mobs (always entertains me to see a bot try to loot a body that he cannot loot).

After about 80 mobs my enchant drops, so I am now happy.  I have got my rare drop enchanting recipe, taken no damage, used no mana, pick up 40g in silver, several greens and a blue worth 45g and the farmer gets zilch.  Result.  Another successful graduate of the famous 'How to Screw Gold Farmers 101' course.

Then I think I'll take a look at his profile.  :roflmao: Yep, it's a bot, so having safely acquired my new enchant and being no longer in need of the bot's services I submit a GM ticket and talk to a GM about 2 mins later.  Having passed the profile details on to the GM I think we can safely say that this one will be banned. :lmfao:

You can read the profile here (http://armory.wow-europe.com/#character-sheet.xml?r=Aszune&n=Springcity).  See if you can spot any bot-like features.

Good stuff TL

I did the same thing to a hunter in Burnign Steps who was killing Elite Dragonkin. End result was no durablilty lost, lots of greens and silver. I was 60 at the time and my pali always struggled to kill those Dragonkin.

:yahoo:

That must be a fairly simple bot. I tried the same thing with one I saw, but unless you timed it *just* right so that their pet started charging/they started aiming before you damaged the mob, but their first attack landed after yours, they ignored the mob as someone else already 'had' it.

I also reported it to Blizz. It was farming any and all mobs around Oshu'gun, where I was also farming one specific mob type for the Major Arcane Protection Pot recipe. I reported it to Blizz (at the time it was level 67). 3 days later I returned to do some more farming for the recipe, and it was still there, now level 70... :sideways:
