Title: Mastering de_contra as CT
Post by: Dr Sadako on May 13, 2007, 09:02:33 AM
de_contra back in the rotation on Meathook and surprisingly many have a hard time on this map, especially as CT. This post is intended to give some pointers and tips on how to play it as CT.
Note that I by no mean will give away all good spots on this map. Because there are plenty.

First of all we need to get some directions sorted.

A as you see is on the left if you are watching toward T spawn and B is on the right. On the radar this is not correctly displayed so you need to call left or right to cause least confusion. The layout of the map is quite simple as you see. There is also a sewer that runs between A and B i.e. left to right in the image above.

As CT your team needs to split up between the bombsites AND covering middle. Having a spotter middle is very important unless you want to be flanked. One or two players should be enough.

Bombsite A (left)

Ts usually show up at A top entrance as they are covered almost all the way to the bombspot. There are two obvious spots from where you can guard that exit.

Of course you can sit on the left (in the corner) to guard the entrance but sitting on the right might take a few by surprise.

Down by the bombsite there are plenty of good spots from where you could defend. Here are two examples.

In the left image you can actually jump up on the bottom crate in a good camp spot. In the right you are standing on the small ramp leading down to the sewer system. Gives you some decent cover and quick retreat.

Bombsite B (right)

Bombsite B is tricky for CTs as Ts if they rush get there very quickly. Also the Ts have three entry points (not counting CT spawn) of which two are displayed in the image below.

It is not uncommon that you will see the Ts at the far exit as you just reach the bombsite. A flash and/or HE to buy you some time is recommended.

Taking up positions is quite easy at B there are plenty of good spots and for example sitting behind this box gives you both cover and good line of sight to T side.

The well is very good to jump down for surprice attacking Ts or just quick access to the sewers. Also a good way to go the another way to a planted bomb as Ts usually guard it from this point.

By jumping down the well you come up the stair and that can take some Ts by surprise.

Another spot to use and look out for is this.

As both you and the Ts can look through the gap between the boxes. Ts can even climb the boxes with some help and come into the bombsite.

From the ramp leading down to the sewers it is possible to guard middle entrance. However, be aware that this position is only safe if CTs control the sewer entry points. Ts could use the ramp route from sewers to stage an attack.

Middle
As I said previously the middle is very important for both teams and CTs need to cover it or at least have a spotter there.

Standing here (see below) you can spot Ts that take the high route to A. T spawn is at the end of this street. However, Ts can take the low route to A as well which means that the middle guy will not spot any Ts. Note by high route and low route I mean they way Ts can leave spawn and move towards A. They still can end up both low and high at bombspot A.

Standing in the sniper window is of course a spot where you can cover both middle and the dried river bed to B, but it is the first spot Ts look so beware.

Moving from A to B or middle to B
CTs have a fast way to move from A to B using the sewer system. In the middle there is a well that can be used to access the sewer.

Make sure that you turn in the right direction when you jump down and aim at the far end of the corridor. By running in the water you are pulled by the stream (flowin from A to B) towards B which at least triples your speed. Hence, going in the opposite direction in the water is extremely slow. Use this fact to put the extra player in either middle or at A.

Great guide, although I would point out that Ts can still climb up the boxes at B, although I'm not sure if they can get all the way over.

T cant climb over, but you can stand behind and cover the doorway on the otherside. From CT i wouldnt know, they are out of bounds then.

Ts can climb over and jump into the bombsite if one person helps you out. Did it myself.
