Correct, better not try and mess up your skins and such if you want to play matches for dMw.
EnemyDown does not allow custom skins and might see them as cheats.

As said allready, ED doesn't appreciate any weird/own models.
So, no, I wont PM or tell you Ingame.

I hope I'm clear...
It's your own choice though...
I;m just saying that they might cause problems...

If you have custom models installed then don't put yourself down as available for matches.

Ok I've removed the model, sorry, I didn't know that custom models aren't allowed, and I want to play games for dMw in ED. I should have guess that they weren't allowed though.

Did you miss my reply?
Although I don't play as much lately as I used to (because of RealLife to busy), I do know what I'm talking about...

Sorry, I think you might have missunderstood me, I got your reply, I understood it, and I've removed the custom models. I also never said you didn't know what you were talking about. ;)

my 2p: Feel free to use the custom models during normal play but make sure you revert to play matches. If you can trust yourself to remember to revert to normal models for matches you'll be fine. f you forget of course there's a chance you'll get in some hot water.

I'm sure there was something with either the ED or the SGL anti cheat system that would flag you up for having them installed, even if they weren't active.  I'll need to check up on the details though.

Indeed Whitey ED is....

Edit: All custom content (map textures, sounds, player & weapon models), with the exclusion of HUD's, are banned from ED as they can be used to your advantage. ED Page...

As said before, if you're interested in playing matches for dMw, don't use customskins, the rest is up to you.

@ Eternal, why I typed if you didn't read my reply, I allready stated that ED doesn't like customskins. Your reply after my reply was that you still wanted to keep it up...
I've played quit a bit for dMw and I'm also for dMw one of the admins in ED, I do check the EDsite quit a bit so I know what is going on. I haven't been playing CS for dMw alot because my life is to hectic at the moment as the MainAdmins know, so you don't have to wait for a reply from Whitey or KKND or another MainAdmin...

I remember a while back i had a few skins for my pump action shotgun and a few for the hostages to make them into beach babes :norty:. Valve then released an update to combat custom skins and i then lost interest it the whole custom skin culture.

As you said, my reply after your reply said I wanted to keep them, but then I realised that it would be a bit of a pain to keep changing them for matches, and that it would be easier if I played with standard models.

Sorry if you felt that I wasn't paying any attention to your replys-But I was!

This is propably a stupid question, but can others see your custom skins when you're using them? Or is it just you?
Title: Css Models, and where to find them.
Post by: DuVeL on May 16, 2007, 03:55:39 PM
Just you.
But for ED as an example you needed to install a program that would automaticly make screenshots while you would be ingame. Those screenshots would be sended to ED to be checked for weird looking models and such...

We need to make sure that the admin skins we use are ok on ED and are not classed as cheats or summat I guess?

That is just server side afaik. If we don't active that setting on the match server the skins will not be used.

It's as easy to install custom models as it is to uninstall them.

Installing is usually a copy-paste job if it's a good release. Sometimes you have a choice between skins or animations and it's a little trickier, but still self-explanatory.

Uninstalling is as easy as renaming any of the folders with custom content in your ctrike folder. Then the game will just revert back to loading content from the .gcf files. So there's nothing permanent to it, and no backups need to be made.

A good site where a big part of the custom content community is located is //www.cdg.net/forums. Any of the good stuff you'll find on sites like fpsbanana probably originates from there.

Counter-strike wouldn't be where it is today without custom content.

In fact, counter-strike IS custom content ^_^

I've always been quite a big fan of using custom models, so I thought I'd share my five cents here, though I assume I'm telling many of you nothing new.

I took a look at some custom guns on those forums, using a few just now and they are very good, much more polished than the normal ones.  I think it's a good way to put a bit of shine on what is now quite an old game. :)

This M4A1 (http://www.cdg.net/forums/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=52993) is my personal favourite. :)

I don't use customguns as I said once before. ED might give problems with that.

I actually sometimes play on some public servers which have consistency checks turned on.  I'm considering writing a program to easily switch custom guns in and out (possibly by a hotkey?) because although it's straightforward to change back to default models, it gets tedious.

I'll post here if I get around to it. :)

I'm curious to see if it's possible. Because I know when you alt-tab CSS it reloads probably the entire GCF. I'm pretty sure you can't change it when in-game, because that would make cheating a lot easier. Please do post!

My heart rejoices whenever I see a nice custom model performing a wonderful new custom animation.

Yeah I think they load when you load CSS.

How do you reload default weapon skins by the way?

Well the way I do it is to move all the weapons folders out of models/materials/sounds, that way it reverts back to the gcf files.

Just checked, they definitely load when the game is loaded, moving them afterwards, even while disconnected, does very strange things.  So not much use for a hotkey then, but you probably wouldn't need to change them in the middle of a game very often anyway.

When I want to get rid of my custom models I just rename the folders in cstrike they are in. It's easy enough to rename them if you want them back.
