Not convinced. Looks like a slightly tooled up WC3, so if you can run that I reckon you should be able to run this fine.

For all you SC2 nuts like myselfs, here is a movie from the convention in Liepzig, the first bits in dutch, but the bulk of it isnt, and it is WELL worth the 15 min of your time to watch this. The is a light spoiler warning, as it reveals the general idea of the story, if you dont want to know anything, dont watch.

well it took 3 years to get back too you but your wrong, the pc I used for WC3 cannot run it, even this pc I have now which isn't all to shabby as it has no hard time at all with World of Warcraft, has a very very hard time when I atack with 25 fully equiped carriers and 200 planes shoot out.

Its only 1 more week of waiting left, and its finally ready, it only took way to long... but who cares :D GIEF!

Is it true this game Ã,£35 (amazon) you can only play one of the three factions and the next 2 factions will be released at full price ie another Ã,£35?
The SP campaign is short.
That for additional content (new units/maps) you'll also have to pay?
That you can't play this game unless your connected to Battlenet - so if the servers are down its no play?
I was considering buying it but I'm having second thoughts - its getting slated for the above issues in peer reviews I'm reading.

To play most new games , you need to be online.
Single player is fun but it is the online gaming you buy it for
The other 2 games were supposed to bring only SP content , tho I am guessing more units will come to get more players to buy them.
So far it seem worth the cash :)

About to finish the campaign now, anyone up for a multiplayer spin can add me :)

Not sure which I need put here but my screen name is Azunai. =)

@Dewey As for my thoughts on it: Like a few posts below said -> It's basically Warcraft 3 in space. Well.. it's Starcraft 1 except with better graphics. It's no revolutionary RTS, heck it's a very basic gather resources, build an army, kill the enemy game. And the game is all about the multiplayer. The main menu says it all as you're immediatly confronted with your profile, stats, online news, ladders, the whole shebang. I haven't tried MP yet but it seems to offer something for everyone as there's practice ladders for total SCII/MP noobs (like myself) and even if you play harder ladders you get matched up with opponents of similar skill, based on what the game learns from your playing.

But if you're going for the Single Player experience only, I would not recommend it. It has a fancy campaign with nice cutscenes and some interactive environments inbetween the missions, a nice tech tree etc., but like most RTS campaigns, it's very short. There's single player skirmish and the so-called challenge mode, but especially the latter really seems to be aimed at familiarizing yourself with the controls and such in order to prepare for Multiplayer.

I have to disagree, it is still the best rts in a long time, if you liked SC you are going to love this. I have played now about 5h and  I'm somewhere around 10/26 missions. The game engine is something I really like, I'm putting really high settings and it is not lagging at all and my computer is getting really old by now. Still the game looks superb. This is the 1/3 of the total series that is coming out and focus is on the Terran, next games will be Zerg and Protoss ofc. Multiplayer is still open for all, even with one game.
Best prices I have seen are around 40€, so thats  a bargain for an epic game ;)
The game is around 10-15h minimum, depending of course what difficulty do you have and are you doing all the objectives. And here steps in the achievements and there are loads!

I don't know, I just didn't find much special about the campaign. It was all very well done, but nothing out of the ordinary in my eyes. Had a run with MP tonight, that was awesome fun; the game itself is a lot more fun when played with others of course but there's tonnes of achievements and other collectibles to ... collect... as well!

I'm enjoying the campaign. Well designed missions, excellent visuals, it's just another quality Blizzard game.

I haven't tried MP yet. I'm 'Tutonic' on Battlenet if anyone fancies a game.

I also have to disagree with you Azunai.

I really love the single player, its very nicely done, I like the whole "talent spec" you can develop, thus enhancing your personal playstyle.

I think its one of the better single players I've played in a while, and I consider the multiplayer to be an awesome bonus.
(played a lot of beta multiplayer, so the first thrill is gone, and I'm still in the first few campaigns of the single, so maybe my opinion is a bit slanted)

I wasn't saying it's bad, just (imo) too short to spend the - rather steep - 59 bucks on alone if you don't plan on playing multiplayer. Then again I'm not easily satisfied when it comes to game length. I usually dig into a new game, play it non-stop for the first 3-4 days, and as it happens I was done with the campaign after 1.5 days of play here. Although I find myself replaying now for achievements I missed so yeah.. that adds to the replay value I guess =)

I'm no expert, it was played on normal - which on some missions was too easy, granted :) I'm gonna slowly pick some missions to try on hard, but I get my ass handed to me time and again on Medium skirmishes so I have little faith in it xD

Tbh if your a dedicated gamer it does go fast. I picked SC2 on tuesday morning, started with normal and finished it on wednesday night. But i loooove it and the MP part, so... meh.

Btw to add someone to friends there are 2 ways: 1) The RealID way (Yes, the one that shows your real name and hush hush bankaccount numbers to some ppl who dont know about RealID and just QQ about it). 2) And then there is the less QQ way. You give your SC2 name and the char. code that you see when you try to add someone as a friend.

In SC2, when you log in, bottom right corner, the friends button. Choose add friend, pops a screen to add friends. And it has 2 sides, one has the slots for RealID and the other side has your char code in blue and a button underneath it "Add as char.code".

I would suggest watching some tutorials on youtube. There are zillion different tactics , all depending on what the enemy is and which tactic he is using. So you need to know the basis and then keep going. No point on trying alone :)
Remember some people have played that game for like over 10 years.

I would say that start with this series: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92Rv-s-7rNk

Note: It has many episodes and is starts from the very basis and continueto advanced level.

Having played a few more MP games, I remain distinctly un-impressed with it.

The game feels old, and uninspired. Tactics are based around who can build the quickest, and in the correct order - I'm used to playing games like Company Of Heroes where units have to be used a bit more intelligently. Alongside that, SC2 feels very basic.

Also, why are most of the SP units missing from MP? No Firebats or Goliaths, what's up with that?

It's a shame really, because the SP campaign feels so well designed and fleshed out and the MP lets it down imo.

As I said, watch the instructional videos. It is not about who can build the quickest. There are a lot of tactics that you need know in order to win.

And I bet the missing units can be explained with balancing issues, they spend loads of time on balancing the units in beta.

Also my char is Lexander and 595 would be the code.

I'm not gonna start with human MP yet, I'm creating my own games vs very hard pc.
I just did the hard FFA yesterday, and almost managed a 4vs1 (4 medium vs me). The insane is a bit to insane for me, But I wanna be able to beat it nonetheless :P

Personally I've found the single player to be decent, have good variation in its missions, and be very nicely polished. However this said, it's nothing ground breaking and does nothing new.

The multiplayer however was a complete let down for me. It feels very one dimensional, and from what I've seen there are few ways to anything 'clever'.

After 70% of the Single Player, I'm now officially bored of it (I do ocasionally play on hard mode in absence of online friends).
I still, maybe even more, love the multiplayer.
Atm I'm in gold league with single, silver with double and bronze with tripple.
If anyone wants to form a 4vs4 or want to practice this format, let me know i'm up for it :)

I'm up for this, as 4vs4 is the best MP form imo. All other forms are more or less about rushing, but in 4vs4 you can have more time to build your army and help your team mates. So who do we have for a static 4vs4 team ?

Have I forgot to put up my char ? Ah well, Lexander and 595 would be the code.

Having now played around 50 matches of mp, it is just simply awesome. 1vs1 is all about knowing how to counter certain units and being fast. 2vs2 is still very fast and needs great teamwork. 3vs3 I haven't played a game yet. But on 4vs4 I'm loving that, so much more tactics and sitting around building your huge army. And i'm even playing with random people, can't even imagine a static team with everyone using TS or something. So I urge you to try that even if you have felt it to be a disappointment.  And after you have played around 5 placement matches you should be playing against people of your own skill. And no there is not only one way to win, there are many many different ways, you will notice that at some point :)
We could arrange something like dMw 4vs4 team night or something ?

Also watching replays helps, and you learn new tricks as well: http://eu.battle.net/sc2/en/blog/601964
