Title: Alts in raids
Post by: Bob on May 21, 2007, 02:33:30 PM
I don't believe we have discussed this, and as it was also brought up by Saori in [post=190429]this post[/post], I guess we ought to agree on some rule for it.

I guess the easiest thing, at least now for the start, is to say that mains will have priority, but alts may be allowed if the Officers or the Raid Leader sees the need for it (no mains to fill up a class need e.g.).
This will at least provide us with a quick and easy solution for now, and it's something we can change later on when we start to raid a bit more regularly.

Well I'm planning on using Bobby a lot.  At present with ellie filling the hunter slot I want to raid occasionally and Bobby might be nice as a substitute healer.

Well, is it better that you fight with Tenilia, Spiritus and Marduk for the pally slots?
I don't say it will be a problem, but we should at least have thought about it, and preferable have some guide line which we can tell the members about.

I doubt there will be any problem with getting healers into the raids, especially if we should happen to start a second group into Karazhan once we've gotten some experience in there, but in general I think mains should have priority.

This won't be a big problem this week, or probably not the next either, as we are still in the test phase of the Karazhan runs, but as soon as we are starting to do regular runs, we must have some kind of rules for it (like how it will be with the rotation system if you should take alts into account there etc.).

Look at it this way: three pally slots vs one hunter slot. Odds are in favour of a pally not being available.

The other option is if a second KZ emerges, some officers need to be willing to lead that.  And the more alts we have the more options become available.

For 10 man raiding, I wouldn't worry about alt / main differences, and let the decision rest solely on usefulness to the raid.  If an alt is more useful to the raid, then let the alt in! KZ can happen frequently enough that all will be happy...

Firstly I believe, if I have understood it right, that it in the future will be more like two pally slots in addition to a healing druid/priest/shaman, but that is really not important.
What you also say, if a situation comes that one of the main pallies won't be available, than you taking his spot will go perfectly fine under the rule "allowed if there is a class need", so that won't be a problem at all.

It was also not my intention to make this a matter on you on your pally vs. your hunter, but it just came up as a convenient example.

In general, at least for the start before we move into the phase where we control the instance a bit more, I believe we should let the mains have priority in the class rotation spots. If not somebody has an idea for a good rotation system that also easily can include alts?

Start off w/ no full stop, and expend later on. There should be more then enough main attention now that the first raid went so well.

Adding to my last post, id refine it to members that have mains in SOG, thus exluding me, TL and Tan, at least for the moment, stick to helping with tactics only. It will cause unneeded strife for us to be involved over full sog members.

I agree with Bastet about that. And I also think we should let the main characters be the priority in raids, and the alts second.
And for the hunterslot? Well, I dont even know if I will be raiding or the future with me in this game. And during this summer I will probably not be around for much so rest asured Lucian, your hunter will raid..

;) Not at the rate this romance is developing! Hence why I'm happy to super sub for healing, or super sub for hunter :P

Clearly, having signed up for it I am biaised, but I am also unavailable on your Sunday raid day anyway.  It's down to you to folks to make whatever rule you want, but if you need a holy/disc priest I'd pretty much guarantee mine is the best specced in the Guild.  But if you have a priest main to do the job......

no alts for now, officers reserve the right to call an alt or ask a raid member to switch to an alt if there is a class need

we shouldnt start worrying about alts at this moment, its far too soon

I agree with you G, way to soon to worry about that.

And about TL attending the raid, i welcome both his, and the others in the raid if there is a class need, and i do recognice the help they have done for us. However, i think we should give members priority over them no matter what. No offence mates, but you are already in kara pretty often, and altho you are way better geared than our other members, they need the morality boost that KZ gives, and could greatly improve by the drops aswell.
