Well? What do we all think?
I am beginning to come to the conclusion that we are all at a significant disadvantage by not using a stand-alone voice com program. Ignoring the possible lag consequences:
- think of the number of times when a team mate has died and you didn't know where they were. How many times has this led to you not knowing where the enemy is?
- think of the number of times that a team mate has died in mid-voicecom before being able to call the size of the attack. Was it 1 person or 6 rushing the axtec bridge?
- how many times have you seen the enemy whilst watching our last man first person and the player not seen them? You are willing them to turn around to no avail.
- have you ever seen a team mate approach the enemy with a glock and an mp5 and pass by a deagle and an ak47 that were lying on the floor? Were they then shot by a higher powered gun than their glock/mp5 combo?
You can all think of other situations like this where an independent voicecomm package would help. But should we use them or not?

I guess it depends whether you consider off-game comms to be cheating or not. The fact that they are undetectable means that you're never going to be absolutely sure whether the opposition are using it or not.
It's in the grey area known as "competitive advantage" along with hyper-tweaked servers and the like.
As I no longer participate in league games, I didn't vote...

I like the fact that we play clean....when we win we know we have done it without any specific advantage (well not counting Frenzy)
I agree that we do loose many rounds/matches by that fact we are not using them and another team is ....
Did anyone use them before they came out as a standard part of cs ...maybe you could enlighten us on how usefull you found them
I used Roger Wilco a lot when playing UT. I also used battlecomm for a while. Both, even when tweaked, have serious delay problems and in some games will not even work. The HL voice comm is very good in comparison when settings are adjusted.
The reason I posted about CBM using a different comm system is a) to let you know that we might face it in the upcoming match and B) that I really would like to NOT having HLTV running in any of our matches and finally c) that on away matches we could face teams that use a voice comm outside the normal HL one and that they could have turned on alltalk on the server without us knowing it.
I wonder how many times c) has happened to us ... I remember one match that we have rushed one site and met their entire team at that site ... Same happened round after round even when we switched sites.
I believe on this matter, the ladder's dictate the legalities and external voice comms are permitted.
I put Yes but there are technical implications beacuse we have enough trouble with people dropping etc.. without the added issue of running another client. I also think that the in game voice comms are very good but yes there is a disadvantage to just using them alone.
So bit of everything really. A voice comms package that works running on an external server, not Blackadder may be an option. I personally like Roger Wilco as its low cpu and there is a very good free version.
